Also unless every friend stays in the house for 2 weeks before with no other contact and then has a negative test before the party, they could have it, then laugh or sing or whatever out into the air.
I don't understand this mindset that friends and family are magically non contagious.

and not to mention bathroom access. People will have to go into your house or piss in your yard. Yup My H is dead set on doing it and trying to figure out all the measures he can put in place to make it safer. Im v. v. not pleased about it Not gonna lie, this would be a big problem for me. He's not respecting your comfort level.

Why not just have the band over to play and then record it and post on you tube or Instagram live?

The law is 250 for outside right now I just can't help but think... what if someone got sick? We are hosting? I told him I'd totally go to something like this but being responsible is sticking in my craw. I'm not sure if that's a reasonable difference and not to mention bathroom access. People will have to go into your house or piss in your yard. This is exactly why I wouldnt do it for "the band's friends". Newp.

Plus, what could you do if some of the band's friends are drunk assholes that breathe on everyone and don't listen to the rules? Are you going to shut everything down and send everyone home? Call the cops? Socializing during the pandemic is like sex. If you trust that your social partner has been following the rules and using protection, then you can feel comfortable engaging in slightly riskier behavior with them. But a backyard band party full of people you don't know? That's like a half step better than going swinger's club in San Francisco in the 80s.

Pandemic or not, hell no to that many people I don't personally know being at my house and expecting bathroom access.
My BFF & her H used to throw huge 4th of July parties and the last couple years they rented a porta potty to keep people out of their house.
I'm on the more relaxed (but still appropriately cautious) side of things and I would not throw this party.

I have to decide by Tuesday if I want my kids to go full time in person starting October or full remote for the rest of the semester.
It’s a lot and I can’t deal.

You are very sweet! I’m good and have baby stuff but lord I have never felt more done in my whole life with anything. I have a Csection scheduled but this baby is such a jerk it’ll probably make a rude appearance at the worst possible time lol. I’m just hoping the pediatrician tells us what we should do school wise. I need an adult who isn’t me.

So, NY friends, I just put my name on the waitlist for SNL tickets. 😬 They’re asking you request tickets for only people in your germ family, you will be sat with them, mask required, Covid tests at the door AND healthcare workers will be given priority. If anyone local is interested, just passing it on.

Ugh. H thinks we should remote learn the rest of the year.
I can’t do that. My kids have zero motivation to do the work and it’s a lot to teach two AND watch a toddler.
The new remote learning that they are using requires the kids to be on zoom almost all dat and then work independently. lol to my 7 year old working independent

My area too. The county released a statement over the weekend that a month in, there’s been no spread within schools. There’s been a couple isolated cases from contacts within the home and with our current system, they were able to trace and isolate. I am really hoping it stays that way as it gets colder.

Same. I feel like with all the precautions in place, it’s much lower risk than I felt going into it. And my area is doing such a good job thinking outside of the box. Schools are closed today for Yom Kippur so a local Rec center is hosting an outside golf camp for kids. Usually they would just host a camp for kids to run around. But they sent out an email saying it’s one of the easiest sports to socially distance. So my kid is masked up and outdoors all day, learning how to golf.

Our state has the lowest rates of Covid and while it gives me anxiety to send them, remote learning has taken its toll here in terms of mental health and relationships. I put home school on the table because I think being able to structure it a different way might be helpful.

What are you % positive rates like these days? Schools are trying to go back in person for the k-2 set in November here. Currently my city is in the 4.5% range. I am worried they are jumping the gun.

Based on where you are with incredibly low numbers (don’t you all have the lowest #s in the nation?), I would definitely push hard to either send them or get some concessions for outside help from your H. Virtual school sounds untenable long term for your family.

I told H to call the principal and talk with him about the precautions at the school and I think we are sending them. I just ordered a bunch of masks for them.

Your H has given you an unrealistic set of expectations that make home learning impossible (silence, TWO STUDENTS, ONE TODDLER, etc etc etc). Off to school they go!

I’m worried about the same thing. There’s definitely still steady community spread in our area. Hell, our governor was just diagnosed. I would really like schools to be open and would jump on the opportunity to send DS back if I felt like it was low risk, since he does much better in person. If we want to be able to open schools with minimal disruption, we need to get our numbers farther down. I’m so frustrated that it hasn’t been a priority. We will have so many classrooms quarantined and disrupted schedules if we open now with current conditions.

I shouldn’t have looked.
Like there goes any semblance of normal.

I just googled. We’re 1%. A neighboring county is 4.4% and my understanding is their public schools are doing well, most of the spread is limited to the Hasidic community who are sending their kids to religious school. So I think there’s prob other factors besides positivity rate in considering if it’s a smart decision.
