My district has gone three weeks with no cases and the little kids in full time! Yay!! I don’t want to jinx it but we’re doing well too. My kid went to a bday party yesterday. A few kids, all outside. Adults wore masks, kids optional. They just played outside and ate pizza and donuts. My kid would not stop telling me it was the best day of his life. I cannot even begin to explain how incredible the past few weeks have been. I’m a better mom when we all get a break from each other. My house is so much happier now. I can’t go back to the spring.

Our district is being super strict and I'm hoping it can hold. If we have to do virtual again I'm probably going to hire my kids old babysitter who is a teacher now and come help. That's my backup plan for my sanity but I think we're going to be ok for a bit

Even if he gets tested he can't go back? I won’t take him to get tested. No one here does the mouth swabs on a minor that I can find. You mean you don't want your small child to be brain swabbed? DD2 has had it three times now. Can attest, it is fucking awful for kids to handle

If I thought there was even a remote chance of him being positive, I would have already had the test done.

Did your kid say he felt nauseated? Second week into preschool my kid figured out that he can’t go if he’s sick so he wakes up and tells me he thinks he has a fever (he didn’t) and he has to stay home. I’m worried he’ll tell his teachers he doesn’t feel good so he can come home. 😬 Yes, which is what he does at home when he is constipated because he doesn’t have the words for it. This happens weekly at home. It is as boring as possible for the next 10 days. No tv, no switch while his siblings are at daycare That's frustrating, I'm sorry.

DS1 got sent home for “nausea.” Amazingly, it disappeared when he pooped (which we TOLD them will happen; he hasn’t gone in two days). He is now home for 10 days. I’m so pissed. Our pediatrician’s office said it’s been really ridiculous what they are sending home kids for, and it’s been absurd. Like, I wasn’t the first one to call today for this exact reason. They’re pissed off, too. WTAF?? He's home for 10 days basically because he needed to poop... That's ridiculous.

We walk into daycare the following morning and DS1 starts telling the director his brother threw up last night... No! No he didn't. I promise he didn't!

Our school (with very few kids-only the autistic program) had a teacher test positive yesterday. (Teachers are virtually teaching from the classroom). So now a few teachers are on quarantine.
We are supposed to have kids (grade k and 1) back in October. I am so worried. Our county isn’t doing well at all.

Please, NOT RIGHT NOW, NOT DURING A PANDEMIC. I told daycare what happened when DH went to get the other two (we agreed to get him tested, though I still think it is ridiculous, to show him what happens when he pretends to be sick). The director burst out laughing and went “your kid has been known to cry wolf.” We got them because, technically, they shouldn’t be at daycare with a pending test. DS1 is pissed he isn’t getting to do what he wants at home and needs to see a doctor. They’re at a rapid test place now waiting to get the test done. Daycare, the urgent care, and the pediatrician all agree this is ridiculous and the schools are flooding their offices. ETA- negative. The school district will be hearing about this on Tuesday. What if we couldn’t afford the copay for this ridiculousness and had to wait 5-7 days for a free clinic results, on top of how ever long it took to get in? DH said that he saw a lot of kids getting tested. It’s the only place that does rapid tests on children

DD was sent home from school because her stomach hurt. She also hadn’t pooped in two days. She has figured out that you can stay home from school because of it so we made it as boring as possible with no snacks or treats. She was happy to go to school after that.
Luckily stomachache is not on the list of symptoms that require clearance from a test/doctor. My friends kid was sent home “because her ear hurt.” I keep joking that DD’s school has gotten soft. But I realize they are super strict plane right now. As long as they stay open I will follow all the rules. I hope cold/flu season is not the worst.

My niece had to stay home the first week of school because of allergies (private school, in person). I don't know their list of symptoms but she also didn't need a test. With the way the weather has been down here, everyone is playing "covid or allergies?" and I don't know how these kids are going to stay in school with any consistency.

My husband wants to have his friend's band play in our backyard. I guess they had a show get cancelled and they still want to play. He thinks if we say no more than 25 people and wear masks it'll be fine. But I think it sounds like an awful idea. He's mad at me. What the fuuuucckkk
For the record I think that would be a kick ass party if it wasn't a pandemic and if we could invite our actual friends rather than a small group of people I don't even fucking know?

I was listening to Onondagas briefing the other day and their executive said the requirements the state has put forth about requiring a doctor note and negative test have really stretched drs and urgent cares thin. And the head of their health department who works with SUNY upstate believes it to be overkill too.
They did just gain approval for the saliva test so I’m hoping that since we are in their region they will allow others to start using it as well.

An allergy flare up requires a covid test here. I spoke to our pediatrician’s office again today because DD has her 1 year app on Monday, and the nurse was as frustrated as I am over this whole thing because they are requiring tests for every thing, not just symptoms. The testing sites are quickly becoming overwhelmed again, and cold/flu season is just starting. Our pediatrician office is trying to get the equipment to do their own covid tests onsite, which will hopefully make things easier come winter, since not only did I have to pay for a pediatrician visit, I also had to pay for the urgent care testing visit 😪 What do people do who can’t afford the two visits?

I think you're right. My area is doing really well right now. But I just can't imagine being the host to an event where people get sick... it would be awful. But then like, there are events by us all over the place with way more people. Food truck fests, pumpkin fests, etc are all happening right now.

We're going back to school on October 19th and I can't fucking wait. Kids are split in 2, monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday. Wednesdays are for cleaning and all virtual I believe. Then the home days are virtual. DS1 needs it so bad.
We're meeting with his pedi Monday for an ADD eval so I'm anxious about that too. It's been....interesting watching him and I'm about to *inwardly* lose my mind.

If I'm going to take a risk I don't really want to do it for strangers?? I laid out my position and hoping he has some time to think it over and realize he's acting silly

I’m sure it could be done reasonably safely assuming everyone adhered to masking and social distancing...but I’d never feel comfortable with the risk and wouldn’t want to be “those people that had that party” or whatever 😖

So I was just reading our local newspaper and I thought our teachers were happy for the most part but their union president says that they are all stretched too thin because we didn’t really create a separate virtual/in person plan. That teachers who are teaching in person have to use their planning periods for the virtual kids. Plus they are frustrated with our lunch process since we have 1 cafeteria for k-12 and while some right now eat outside they can’t do that in the winter. They said all of the stress means they aren’t giving their best to the kids.
I’m not sure what to think or what the right answer is.
