loony, DD1 and her friend FaceTime playing "hospital" all the time---and they always wear masks for hours. (While they are conducting emergency surgery with the Barbies). DD2 (who just turned 2--started asking to wear a mask while playing with the doctor's kit.

koko I'm so sorry your dad has it. Hoping she continues to recover and nobody needs hospital intervention. Hugs.

The fairground near my parents’ house has had to cancel all of their events this summer, so the local food vendors ended up getting together and organizing a drive-thru fair food fest. I’m so excited to hit them up and get some funnel cake in my belly this weekend! One of the local state fair food vendors here has been doing Fair Food Fridays. At first it was just a drive through pick up deal but now they’ve added socially distanced picnic tables and live music during the pick up times. We haven’t done it yet but plan to soon. You can pre-order online to make it even quicker. I'm really hoping to be able to do this soon! Our development had one of the fair food trucks come last week but of course it was the one evening I had to work. I need a funnel cake!

Not at all DC. I have friends that are reporting the same thing in the post. I do have mild symptoms. I'll do a run down of the family symptoms this afternoon for scientific purposes

Ok this is clever. Paging jaygee Love it! The team also launched a campaign to raise money for the Oakland Zoo. My mom was a huge A’s fan - we were a family divided - so I’ll be giving that my money in her honor.

My dad was diagnosed with COVID almost 2 weeks ago. He’s home thankfully but still struggling every day. I wish I could do more for him, but I can’t.
Also found out that he fell a few weeks ago and fractured his hip. Looks like we’ll be making some big life changes and trying to figure out how to get my parents closer to us (they are currently 40 minutes away) so I can help him more.

Here in CT they finagled a belated, abbreviated little league season. DH is co-coaching T-ball with a guy who manages emergency preparedness in a nearby city, so no issues there. But he quickly lost his two unofficial helpers for rookie ball because neither Dad was cool with wearing a mask. They were fine with getting right up in the kids'space, of course. Idiots.
We kept our distance from the other families but man, I was getting massive anxiety from seeing so many people out at the park today. A few were wearing masks and most were somewhat distanced but it was way too lax, in my opinion. We are going to be screwed come the fall.

Can I get some advice?
My dad is not doing well, health-wise. He’s in his late 70s and has congestive heart failure and has extreme breathing difficulties. A ten minute conversation with him on the phone will leave him struggling to breathe at the end like he just ran a 10k. He’s in and out of the hospital.
I live five hours away from him. My siblings and I had a zoom call with my mom tonight. He’s not doing well. The drugs he’s on are failing him, and his internal organs are starting to rebel. No other real options for drugs that will work for him. He wants to be done. He doesn’t want to go to the hospital again because he’s afraid he won’t come home and will die there alone. We’re starting to turn the conversation from prolonging dad’s life to quality of life and making him comfortable.
I want to go visit him. I want to bring my family to see their FIL/grandpa for what may be the last time. How do I do that, knowing we could expose him and my mom? Mom is pretty healthy, but she is in her 70s. Can we get tested even though none of us have symptoms? Everything I’m seeing online is that you need to have symptoms or be in an outbreak to get tested. My county has been trending up in cases due to 20 somethings contracting it at a couple of bars. Not sure if that would be sufficient reason.
How would you handle this?

stepho first of all, I am so very sorry. I know that each state's situation is different but I would definitely try my hardest to get tested. My state's DOH hascan interactive website listing testing sites and the criteria for getting a test seem to be fairly inconsistent. So if one place won't test you, perhaps another will? (They seem to all require pre-authorization and a reservation for a test). I totally understand the difficult position in which you find yourself and I hope you can safely see your parents.
