The floor is lava versus couch cushions is my life. I just want to flop on the couch at the end of the night without pillows and blankets askew.

addymac Are you sure she's not in an alternative universe where Covid doesn't exist? That seems risky.

I really don’t see sports seasons finishing this year. Maybe not even starting.

addymac Are you sure she's not in an alternative universe where Covid doesn't exist? That seems risky. It’s ridiculous! She’s done a total 180 on taking this seriously - they were in total lockdown mode March and April and suddenly Now its “oh it’s fine, we just have to keep living, the biggest risk group is not us, we all know of old people get it they’re going to probably die but it is what it is.... I need to get out of SF, I’m tired of WFH....” Makes my head fucking explode.

jaygee we have a major pedi hospital, which I worked for up until recently. I was part of the asthma team, so it's a little of I know to much. I really trust my pedi and will follow her advice but my gut is just in knots. I understand that feeling. I hope everything turns out ok. Sending healing vibes to your little guy.

From Rachel Maddow.... There are 446 million people living in the countries of the EU. They reported 3k and some change cases today. Arizona has a population of 7.2 million and had 4k and some change cases today. Cool cool cool. I want to hide under my bed again

Michigan is seeing outbreaks again coming from crowded bars. My BIL and 4 of his co-workers all tested positive and my sister got tested today. Our Governor just shut down indoor bars again so at least that's good. I just hope things don't get really bad. I'm not surprised but how terrible. I hope your BIL has a mild case and that your sister doesn't get it. So far it's just a mild head cold for him. They have his son this week too so he'll probably need to be tested. My sister said he's been living in the basement right now so FX hers comes back negative. She isn't having any symptoms at least. It was a younger guy who went to the bar that brought it into his office 😒

cakewench they just don't care. The market isn't tanking so they're all good in their pocketbooks. The market is going to catch up and crash eventually and they'll be confused and stare vacantly when you ask if they understand the role they played in it.

My very quarantined asthmatic 9yo has developed pneumonia after 3 weeks of uncontrolled coughing. Is it Covid or is it because covid dramatically changed the hospital's asthma protocol and no early intervention was allowed due to limited resources? I'm stressed because our pedi said she wont see her again, that the ER is where we go next. Not to fear monger. The big picture with reports of TX fudging numbers and seeing scarce resources first hand... Y'all I'm terrified for what is to come next I'm so sorry, I'm thinking of you all

Based on my Facebook, it seems everyone here is going to Missouri every weekend for baseball/softball. Soooo frustrating.

my long term fear has been that this is going to force a lot of unwilling people to become stay at home parents and sacrifice their careers. And it will disproportionately be women, because, society

I just finished reading this and was coming here to post it. I feel like alarm bells need to be going off and they just aren't? Maybe because so many politicians don't have young children or have the resources for additional help? IDK.

This piece started as a Twitter post/thread that I found just because I was searching "nyc doe" and "nyc schools" because I felt nuts. I have some great $$$ friends who were like "it's too early to worry, it will all unfold" but I was like this is going to become a big issue for the majority of people that can't throw money at the problem. Especially with employers being 'over it' with people watching their kids while working now. Which is not ideal, I don't want to, but where do you put them if tons of places are closed? I'm glad that my city councilperson is working on it, but just seeing it acknowledged this morning helped.

IDK. parents will continue to keep all of the plates spinning, trying to work from home with children underfoot and manage their children's distance learning, because what choice do they have? there are so many holes in the boat and I think politicians are focused on those that are out of work completely. But the strain on families and the loss of productivity is a problem too. And the answer is not, "Just open everything!" ETA seriously, though, write to your representatives and make it clear to them how hard this has been and continues to be. often if it isn't in their faces, they don't pay attention.

This was a great article and very much aligns with how I feel about trying to navigate next year with my 2 school aged kids. What is not addressed and I wish was, is the kids under school-age that are the most work to care for while WFH. I think people are under a false illusion that daycares won’t be closing again. Like oh they’ve reopened so at least there’s that. I’m sure the author would agree with me if we chatted about it, I just felt like it was a big missing piece!

And most daycares aren't even open by us, so it has to be beyond tricky. My kid will zone out with Epic and Brain Pop for as long as necessary, but if he were 2? Omg.

I just read that Ontario is talking about when to announce stage 3, which for us would mean playgrounds, indoor restaurant dining (with distancing of course), and larger groups than 10 allowed.
I am annoyed because they’re claiming we’ve done great in stage 2 and that all these things have been *allowed* to reopen - like for example daycare and swimming pools. In actuality I haven’t heard of a single pool that’s opened yet because they had to spend the last 3 weeks rehiring staff and training them. The first outdoor wading pools are opening TODAY. A lot of daycares aren’t opening until July 6th, earliest. So, how is it smart to rely on our numbers for stage 2 when really stage 2 is just taking off?
Oy.

Update on the school outbreak in Israel. No good news. this is upsetting. The conventional wisdom that kids don't get it or spread it seems to be based largely on the fact that children have been at home for months. Now that children are venturing out in public, those conclusions don't seem to be holding up.

Update on the school outbreak in Israel. No good news. What I really want from these stats in Israel is insight about how severely those children who tested positive were affected, and the same info for teachers. It’s awful that they’ve had such a big outbreak and we need to look at it closely as we get closer to thinking about how we reopen schools here.

I read the NY Times article this morning and feel every word. I also get that there is not actually a good answer that doesn't include massive federal aid (in a way that will realistically never happen). Question, though: I've seen the Israel numbers and their correlation to schools reopening, but hasn't Europe largely opened their schools in the same way and they still have this under control?
I keep holding out hope when I see the AAP recommendations for schools to reopen and other credible sources say that kids aren't spreading this thing in the same way as the general population, but then I see the Israel news and my hopes get dashed.
