I don't understand how some areas/states can say they have "no" cases when it seems nobody can get tested. When they test everyone in one facility and find 900 positive cases.

but the senate can't get 100 tests.
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Well, I mean, if they are going to FORCE meat plants to stay open then I feel they should be prioritized for testing, right?

Oh I dont have a problem with the testing itself, but where are they coming from? Like did Tyson just fly them in from the black market? the inequity of testing is just one glaring hole in the lack of responsible federal leadership.

Oh yes, agreed for the greater DC area. I don't think there is broad talk of reopening like other places though? We'd have to hit at least 14 days of decline of new cases/new hospitalizations and we can get maybe one day before the clock resets. Things are for sure only getting worse here.

I don't believe the governors/mayor are pushing anything yet. Governor Northam released his plan for gradual easing of restrictions but it is contingent on the numbers of cases and hospitalizations steadily declining. As it stands right now, we are testing half as many people as the Governor said we need to.

This what bothered me about about a lot of the chatter the other day in the other thread. Like yes we have to open the economy but every doctor and serious person who seems to understand what's going says we need more testing and contact tracing in order to successfully avoid a huge second wave so that businesses can REMAIN OPEN once opened. And the US is clearly not there yet so I worry that the ultrasound mate economic harm will be worse. Especially because we aren't really supporting those small businesses that will provide jobs services and taxes. Also I got into an argument with someone about why small businesses shouldn't have to pay back loans and I was like they WILL pay them back through state and federal taxes when their business doesn't go under because of giant loan payments they can't afford on top of rent, payroll, insurance etc. So no we shouldn't make them pay monthly fees for the privilege of not going bankrupt.

On a slughtly funnier note tomorrow Portugal officially moves from a state of emergency to a state of calamity. Because that's an actual name of a slightly lesser state of disaster in this political system.

The title to this short CNN article does not give alot of hope for an early end to this pandemic but I think its realistic. www.cnn.com/2020/04/30/health/report-covid-two-more-years/index.htmlAnd I could not agree more with this statement "some states are choosing to lift restrictions when they have more new infections than they had when they decided to impose the restrictions. It is hard to even understand the rationale," Lipsitch said.

Looking purely at the numbers it looks like my county is an absolute mess right now so NEAT. It’s awful. Did you look at the breakdown by zip codes on the county website? It’s especially bad in the Fairfax/Vienna area. I hate to say it, but I feel like our county specifically needs stricter SIP protocols to get things under control. And more workplace protections for essential workers to try to protect everyone as much as possible.

We aren't going anywhere as it is. Once every ten days I go get groceries. That's it. I'll do whatever they need me to do to slow this down

I really hope the shops and restaurants there pull through. We’ve run errands here and there. We had to get my car battery replaced at autozone this week, we did Target Drive Up, we order pizza or other takeout once a week, we’ve picked up pastries and coffee curbside from the local cafe one morning a week since this started, and H goes grocery shopping once a week. I still feel like we are being much more conservative than many of our neighbors. There are so many families getting together regularly in our neighborhood. I don’t know. It’s just scary and sad.
