Yup. I’m frustrated that it still doesn’t seem like we’ve done enough testing in my area but I’m not sure I understand all the options. Like maybe because we are doing a good job of containment, people are not showing symptoms and not going to get tested. The governor has said that testing priority is going to nursing home and shared living situations (homeless shelters, prisons). I get that. And they are also focusing on socioeconomic areas that have been under tested for a variety of reasons. Also good. But...where are the other tests? On a side note - did you see they tested everyone in Bolinas (1,800 residents) and got no positives. Bolinas has been really fighting to keep non residents out since the first weekend of SIP when everyone flicked to their beaches. I feel like I would be manning the gates of the city if I lived there. I loooved visiting Bolinas when I lived in the Bay Area. I was exactly the person they are trying to keep out. 😂 Lol. There are so many places like that I would love to go during this “down time” but I won’t because I know I shouldn’t. But yeah, I’ll dream about the day I can head out to a nice little beach town again.

Minerva, your brother is doing very admirable work. The fact he is doing that and then self isolating to protect others really speaks to how much he seems to care about society. It's good to hear about people like him. Re: testing. I think it is very inconsistent from area to another. Seems like every health system is trying to get their hands on reputable tests and using them as they best see fit. If an area has low numbers of symptomatic people I can definitely see people walking up and getting a test whereas harder hit areas have to reserve them for the most critical, HCWs or congregate living or factory workers. I suppose places that have them but aren't having a"need for them yet don't want to give them up for fear of not getting more for when they do.

Has anyone else NOT received their economic impact payment who is supposed to get one? All the U.S. citizens who live in Puerto Rico.

I don't understand how some areas/states can say they have "no" cases when it seems nobody can get tested. When they test everyone in one facility and find 900 positive cases. See also the claims that Virginia has so many fewer cases than Maryland. We don't know! Virginia isn't testing anyone!

The title to this short CNN article does not give alot of hope for an early end to this pandemic but I think its realistic. www.cnn.com/2020/04/30/health/report-covid-two-more-years/index.htmlAnd I could not agree more with this statement "some states are choosing to lift restrictions when they have more new infections than they had when they decided to impose the restrictions. It is hard to even understand the rationale," Lipsitch said. E.g., Mississippi

Please check me if I’m out of line. I’m starting to feel more than a little ragey about people in low incidence COVID19 areas claiming they can just walk up and get tested. Is that actually true or are they just talking out of their bums? Because we are in a hotspot and it is still hard for first responders and essential workers to meet the criteria to get tested here, let alone the general public. You have to be showing severe respiratory symptoms or have a doctor who will go balls to the wall to advocate for you. No one simply strolls up and gets tested. Hell, there isn’t enough testing capacity in the capital to test 100 Senators before they meet. Is this reflecting a quid pro quo situation where blue states have to fight to get their hands on PPE and testing materials? Or are posters just echoing what they’ve heard through the grapevine about testing in their areas without firsthand knowledge? I have questions about testing too. This was the last thing I read about testing capacity and it wasn't wholly positive. www.statnews.com/2020/04/27/coronavirus-many-states-short-of-testing-levels-needed-for-safe-reopening/The upsetting thing is that people will get angry at the governors who heed the public health guidelines when they see other states lifting restrictions, whether those states have any indication that it's safe to do so

My state, New Mexico, has been testing asymptomatic people for two weeks now. At drive up locations too without a doctor's order. We have a democratic governor and she has been amazing at getting us resources. We have two federal labs here that helped get us resources quickly so I know that factored in. We've tested just under 68k people and have a population of 2 million. We can process 5k tests a day. We have 3411 cases as of yesterday which is minor compared to other states. It blows my mind that hotspots are having such a hard time getting tests and people that have clear symptoms aren't able to get tested.

It's May 1st so I'm now officially living the high deductible-HSA lifestyle. Although I can't really complain because we have a cafeteria-style plan so we essentially don't pay premiums anymore so all that money is going into the HSA.
ETA: wrong thread, but whatever

dc2london and that is what is so frustrating about not having solid leadership at the top. During the governor's press conference yesterday, she said that not as many individuals are getting tested even though it's opened up to asymptomatic people and I wish some of those tests could be shifted to other areas in the country that need them. I could go get tested right now even though I have zero symptoms but someone in another state could have many symptoms and be turned away. It is so frustrating.

This is the stance we hear, but a local nursing home stated it took weeks to get the tests they needed after one positive, to find out there are over 50 residents and staff that tested positive.

I'm in CT and know only one person who was able to get tested and none of their exposed family was able to get tested. This includes first responders and doctors/nurses who are working with Covid patients. Maybe it's just my area but testing isn't widely available.

Poof- Thanks all for your kind words. Minerva can you edit your post? Probably not a big deal, but I feel like it’s not my place to leave stuff about her life online....

On the topic of unknowns with school, we have to decide whether to take a TK spot at our elementary school for DD for next year. We have to decide by May 15. We were already leaning toward paying more to keep her at our PS/pre K room. Based on smaller numbers, plus the fact that smaller facilities will probably be able to actually be open more so than school district establishments, would you guys stick with private for next year?

I also got our letter from the idiot in chied today and burned it. It was quite cathartic. In other news, DD1's summer day camp was cancelled today It's expected, but man, I'm sad.

I really with I had taken my son’s advice and burned it like you and lemondrop! My youngest was finally old enough to go to our county conservation’s nature camp this year. Both my kids are bummed about missing that.

That’s a tough decision, especially with all the added unknown factors right now. Do you if they cap the TK class sizes? Ours are capped at 15 and usually slightly below that. Just wondering how it would compare to your private preschool’s numbers.
