Today is my first mandatory PTO day for our workforce reduction program. I’m laying in bed with dogs and coffee. It’s magical but it feels odd. Like I keep feeling late for something.

I read an article yesterday that Eden Center may be doomed which makes me so, so sad. We aren't going anywhere as it is. Once every ten days I go get groceries. That's it. I'll do whatever they need me to do to slow this down That is so incredibly sad. I really hope the shops and restaurants there pull through. We’ve run errands here and there. We had to get my car battery replaced at autozone this week, we did Target Drive Up, we order pizza or other takeout once a week, we’ve picked up pastries and coffee curbside from the local cafe one morning a week since this started, and H goes grocery shopping once a week. I still feel like we are being much more conservative than many of our neighbors. There are so many families getting together regularly in our neighborhood. I don’t know. It’s just scary and sad. When the weather was nice there were a couple of families getting together at the tennis courts and kids were riding bikes together but for all I know they all live in the same house or are in a closed germ circle. I feel like people in my neighborhood have done a good job staying home or staying apart.

Has anyone else NOT received their economic impact payment who is supposed to get one? We just got ours yesterday. I haven’t gotten mine. I checked the website yesterday and it said it needed my bank info. Even though the withdrew my regular taxes from that bank two weeks ago. And it’s the same account I’ve had for years. Ok tho.

Does anyone else feel like they have an expiration date to when they can mentally handle everything? I can wrap my head around school being over for the year, and even summer camp getting f'ed up, but I don't know how I'm going to keep a job if I don't have a place to put my kid during the day in the fall.
I realize that worrying about things you can't control isn't particularly productive, but the planner part of me is like uhhhh, wtf is my backup.

My xH has not. He works very part-time and gets a SSI disability check each month. He does not file taxes. My kid asked me if I knew if he would get a check.
I thought that I read something that said he would, that it would be deposited the same as his monthly check. His monthly check was deposited earlier this week and nothing since.

I am thinking that we as a society will need to rethink a lot of stuff if we don’t have r-values below 1 and a widespread test/trace/isolate protocol by mid-summer. Parents need some sort of supervision for their kids if they are going to continue working full time. I wonder about solutions like expanding the in-home daycare model to include school aged kids as well, while still maintaining strict social distancing. Keeping germ networks smaller with more “firebreaks” should help prevent another full fledged outbreak. School or center-based daycare as usual with groups of 20+ kids, shared bathrooms, cafeteria, and playground seems like a disaster while we are trying to mitigate a pandemic. Mostly, I just keep hoping that we can get our act together to test/trace/treat/isolate. I don’t understand the lack of political will at the federal level to make it happen.

The title to this short CNN article does not give alot of hope for an early end to this pandemic but I think its realistic. www.cnn.com/2020/04/30/health/report-covid-two-more-years/index.htmlAnd I could not agree more with this statement "some states are choosing to lift restrictions when they have more new infections than they had when they decided to impose the restrictions. It is hard to even understand the rationale," Lipsitch said. Reading this makes me feel less crazy, at least.

Oh hold on, I read something about a firm for people on SSI who don't file a tax return. Let me go find it for you

I'm already brainstorming people that I could pay to watch/'homeschool' my kid if it is allowed. This is comforting in a weird way, so thank you for the idea.

Please check me if I’m out of line. I’m starting to feel more than a little ragey about people in low incidence COVID19 areas claiming they can just walk up and get tested. Is that actually true or are they just talking out of their bums? Because we are in a hotspot and it is still hard for first responders and essential workers to meet the criteria to get tested here, let alone the general public. You have to be showing severe respiratory symptoms or have a doctor who will go balls to the wall to advocate for you. No one simply strolls up and gets tested. Hell, there isn’t enough testing capacity in the capital to test 100 Senators before they meet.
Is this reflecting a quid pro quo situation where blue states have to fight to get their hands on PPE and testing materials? Or are posters just echoing what they’ve heard through the grapevine about testing in their areas without firsthand knowledge?

Minerva, I'm not 100% sure, and I think things can vary even within a state, but I just saw this info and it seems applicable (and note that VA is way down there, yikes)

We have low case numbers and I don't think we are to the level of everyone walking up and getting tested but I do know that they to have enough tests for people with symptoms, enough to universally test everyone in an outbreak, and there are at least no state restrictions on who can be tested (I don't know if this is a thing in other states, but that's what they said). They have no backlog and they have capacity to spare, but I don't know how conservative the doctors are being with ordering tests for their patients. They've also been able to secure enough swabs and viral transport media. We have a democratic governor.

You are the best! Thank you. I will pass this along to him. I claim our kiddo so he wouldn't have to update on dependents so if I am reading it correctly, he just needs to wait it out and he will get the 1200.00.

It’s just such a mindfuck seeing stories about how governors and hospital administrators are fighting and going undercover to procure tests in areas that have been hit hard by the disease. If only we had a federal government that could direct excess testing supplies to the areas where they are most needed...

My work is expanding testing to all employees regardless of symptoms. They ask non patient facing areas to wait a couple of weeks though so maybe end of May I’ll go get it. I feel 99% sure I have not had it so I’m only really going for data purposes. And to confirm if I want to visit my grandma shortly after SIP is lifted. I was hoping they would let us just get the antibody test but we have to do both. But I heard the swab is smaller now. 😬

I’m frustrated that it still doesn’t seem like we’ve done enough testing in my area but I’m not sure I understand all the options. Like maybe because we are doing a good job of containment, people are not showing symptoms and not going to get tested. The governor has said that testing priority is going to nursing home and shared living situations (homeless shelters, prisons). I get that. And they are also focusing on socioeconomic areas that have been under tested for a variety of reasons. Also good. But...where are the other tests? On a side note - did you see they tested everyone in Bolinas (1,800 residents) and got no positives. Bolinas has been really fighting to keep non residents out since the first weekend of SIP when everyone flicked to their beaches. I feel like I would be manning the gates of the city if I lived there.

He lives close, but hasn’t been inside their house in two months. He’s a social worker with an active caseload at a halfway-house-style rehab facility, so a lot of potential for exposure. He’s been self-isolating to the point of not even going into grocery stores to avoid spreading the virus if he has it. I can tell it is taking a toll on his mental health. 😞

Like our state got a fraction of the number of the Abbott tests they requested, but a private medical practice got multiple times that number. It makes no sense.

I don't know. I keep hearing chatter about how easy it is to get tested in ATL but AJC just released a story about a 30 year old black woman who died of COVID and who was denied a test not once, but twice.
Sooooooooo...
I think some of this chatter can be filed under Things I Need to Believe to Function versus reality.
