Confirmed cases now in Austin. Cadence's school is closed today. No kinder rodeo for her. She's going to be so upset. I still have to go to work. Mh is off today.

On the shuttle to work. Raining and people still don’t know how to drive in it so we had the extremely slow drivers and the extremely fast drivers. So the commute was crazy.
I’m finding out what my team will be doing the next few weeks while the rest of the company is closed

Confirmed case in my little city now too. Chaos has begun. No school....I think for next 3 weeks. I'm home because L is sick with a high fever. I just ordered groceries since stores are insane. MH will stock up on booze later.

Glad I didn't tell the kids about Monster Jam this weekend cause it was cancelled (we wouldn't have gone anyway at this point).

Happy Birthday joelies! I'm surprised Kansas City has confirmed cases before larger metro areas, like Austin. We had our first confirmed death late yesterday. A 70yr old who had lived in an assisted living facility went in to the hospital a few days ago and ended up passing. They tested him after he passed and confirmed coronavirus. Hopefully the hospital had been taking precautions for all staff and patients.

I hit the grocery store at 7:30am and got toilet paper, paper towels, and the last bottle of disinfectant hand soap and last canister of disinfectant wipes. I also stocked a bit on non-perishables. I was calm until yesterday when we were told the court was closing. Not anymore!

I have yet to attempt the grocery store. I should probably get on that now that there are cases reported here.

We're only an hour away from the initial outbreak site and they've closed school 45 min north of us for 6(!!!) weeks. Yesterday our district assured us school is still on but I don't see that lasting long. OR closed all schools for 2 weeks.
I'm still sick and still self-quarantining but I need to get some groceries too.
I'm really pissed at the lack of testing.

The testing is free now from any hospital even if you don’t have coverage. Kaiser is testing (at least here) everyone who comes in even if they aren’t coming in for it.

Thanks for asking. I'm ok but definitely under the weather. Madison really feels crappy. She's my kid who doesn't sleep and immediately took a nap when she got home from school. She looks really pale. She described the same sxs I had when I first got sick which are consistent with Covid-19 sxs, but even though she feels warm she doesn't have a fever so I know they won't test her. I have no doubt we'd have more than 1 confirmed case in my city if they were testing people.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! DH took me out last night for dinner and he and the boys gave me a new ski jacket this morning.
In other news, my Dad's petscan is stuck in insurance purgatory so between that and everything going on, I will not be heading to FL next week. Given that schools are closing, I expect daycare to be next, so it's best for me to be here. My parents agree but my Mom sounded so sad.
We're still heading to VT this weekend. Ryan's Aunt is staying home, she doesn't want to travel more than necessary since her husband is in poor health. I adore her but I'm a bit relieved - I felt so bad when Chase was sick last time, she was so nervous her husband would catch it. I assume between the virus and it being March, the mountain will be dead. Sounds like a nice weekend to me!

I have Kaiser insurance and they wouldn't test me yesterday. Just gave me the runaround and made me wait over an hour. 😒 I'm normally happy with them but was not thrilled how they handled it. As a big medical clinic I thought they'd have a station set up to swab you and get you out of there to limit your contact in the place. They sent me all over the building and charged me $25.

Poor M, inthekitty! I hope you’re both feeling better soon. Happy Birthday to you, joelies! I started the kindergarten work with Josie this morning. No one has a return date yet. This feels so strange to me. I don’t ever remember anything like this. I want to run to the library and pick up some magic treehouse books but I don’t even know if it’s the right thing to do because the people who work there are all older volunteers. Still up in the air about going away for the weekend tomorrow.

guster they were talking a bit about the general weirdness of this on the mass thread on GD. How it's almost like a 9/11 event and this will make it in the history books and be a standout memory to our kids. We've talked about it with the girls but have not belabored it with them. I think if/when their school closed that will be the sentinel event for them.

I live in a pretty small town, 30 minutes outside of the metro area. Our store was the busiest it has been in the 5 years I have been shopping there. Worse than when large snow storms are predicted.

Are you all talking about this with your kids? For now we’ve told them that there’s a flu like virus all over the world (I know it’s not that, but just for the kids) from which some people can get really sick and that that’s why we need to be extra diligent about washing our hands, coughing in your elbow, not constantly touching your friends... but that is the extent of it.

I have talked about it in the general sense in that she needs to make sure she washes her hands and not get into people's personal space, etc. She did ask this morning why so many people are getting sick and is it the sickness that her friend was talking about at dance last night.
I told her that yes, it is the coronavirus, and that people are getting sick because they aren't washing their hands(obviously there is more to it than that), but that she doesn't need to worry about it because parents are taking care of it and little kids don't need to worry about things like that.

Yes. We had to explain to them why school and daycare were being closed.

klong11 we also told them they don’t have to worry. My kid is such a cuddle bug with his friends (we’ve talked to him about this before), and I don’t want to get it in to his head that you can get sick from cuddling, but at the same time...
