Morning!
Our schools are closed here Monday to give teachers a planning day in case we have to go to 'virtual school' at some point. Some after school activities have been canceled, as well as larger events in the area, but otherwise business as normal. We have only had like, one case in this area though.
I should probably put in a Wally World order for pick up, thankfully I haven't heard of any 'runs' at local stores, other than TP and hand sanitizer, etc.
I'm already feeling cabin-feverish and wanting to spend alll the money online shopping. Probably should hand over my cards to DH for safe-keeping!

flamingo I would do the grocery run ASAP. I'm really pissed I didn't get groceries earlier. Once schools started closing yesterday the stores became bare.

In other news, our fridge is acting up (mostly affecting the freezer). Thankfully I am not one to stockpile frozen things or I'd be in trouble. So we have a repair person coming out this afternoon.
B/c this house cannot let me go at the end of May without a fight.

Happy birthday joelies! As for us, B started coughing last night and woke up this morning with a slight fever (not over 100, but he runs low, so that's definitely a fever for him). He's home with MH today and we are assuming schools are closing tonight for the next few weeks but have not been told that yet.

Morning. S was a pill this morning about going to school. She cried the whole way there and as soon as her teacher got her I hightailed it out of there. Iām not going anywhere or doing anything this morning and it feels great. Last night when I was still at work I was talking to my coworker, leaned against the higher part of the desk and it felt like I was stabbed by something near my belly button. I was wearing my fleece so I assumed it was the zipper but nope. It still hasnāt gone away this morning so I sent a message to my OB seeing if they want me to come in. Mostly itās a dull ache but sometimes I will get a sharp pain. I hope everyone thatās sick is feeling better quickly. joelies Happy birthday! Sorry you had to cancel your trip down to see your parents.

guster they were talking a bit about the general weirdness of this on the mass thread on GD. How it's almost like a 9/11 event and this will make it in the history books and be a standout memory to our kids. We've talked about it with the girls but have not belabored it with them. I think if/when their school closed that will be the sentinel event for them. I was thinking about this, too. And it is definitely a topic of conversation among the kindergarten set. Dude said one of his friends told him āitās in the pipesā and he also hypothesized older people are getting sick more than kids because they are taller, so much closer to air vents.š

Iām at work without students. We had training on distance learning. They are opening 3 sites for āto goā meals for breakfast and lunch if we need to close for an extended time. Hoping my students will be able to get to them. We are definitely closed Monday. Next meeting is at 11:50 and then we can go home. I think they are going to announce an extended closing at that meeting.... My nieces wedding is still on for Sunday. Other than that, being stuck in the house trying to keep the kids quiet while MH works sounds not fun.

I hit the grocery store at 7:30am and got toilet paper, paper towels, and the last bottle of disinfectant hand soap and last canister of disinfectant wipes. I also stocked a bit on non-perishables. I was calm until yesterday when we were told the court was closing. Not anymore! I was calm until I was in the grocery store. I had an hour to shop and get Matthew from school. I should have been fine. I think I've seen to many "end of world" type movies. But the crowds, panic in people's faces, grabbing stuff off shelves like crazy, long lines, people in face masks. It really put me on edge. And then I had to fly to get to the school on time. And so many people were picking up. The buses were almost empty. I felt better once I had all my kids home with me.

Col's school is officially closed all next week and they plan to reassess midweek. I'm actually thinking that if daycare closes for an extended period of time, maybe we visit my parents sooner than later, to avoid pulling Colin out of school, assuming April break gets cancelled. Not that I've made any progress cancelling next week's flight - you have to do it via phone to avoid fees and of course the lines are jammed.

I have yet to attempt the grocery store. I should probably get on that now that there are cases reported here. Good luck. We went last night after work. I live in a pretty small town, 30 minutes outside of the metro area. Our store was the busiest it has been in the 5 years I have been shopping there. Worse than when large snow storms are predicted. I decided to do a shop for Walmart delivery to get wipes, diapers, snacks, etc but they were already out of a lot of things. I donāt feel comfortable leaving the house knowing Iām sick with who knows what, and knowing if I donāt already have it, Iām SOL if I get exposed to someone who does. Amazon is out of basically everything.

I'm not too worried about B. This is pretty much his status quo... But he is definitely gonna stay home for a while.
And I just got the word from school. Cancelled indefinitely.

We've put together a work plan for working from home, essential services etc. Got an email that school is still open next week, at this time, but there are always changes. So who knows.
MH got word that no one is coming or leaving the base, they arent scheduling any flights out for their tour vacation time. I was going to tell him to stay there anyways, it's for the best.

Itās good that theyāre talking about it but donāt seem very upset. As for the pipes, well, I had to tell him his friend must have overheard something and interpreted it the wrong way because the water pipes are not a problem. So wash those hands! But we approached it pretty much how @klongoria did, explained the situation, told him some people are getting very sick, but that kids are mostly doing okay. He is prone to get anxious over things so I asked him if anything we talked about made him nervous or he had questions, and he said, āno, whatās the worst that could happen?ā I didnāt answer that one.

Are you all talking about this with your kids? For now weāve told them that thereās a flu like virus all over the world (I know itās not that, but just for the kids) from which some people can get really sick and that thatās why we need to be extra diligent about washing our hands, coughing in your elbow, not constantly touching your friends... but that is the extent of it. Yes. I want him to hear the correct information because his friends are talking about it and school is as well. Really everyone is. We practice hand washing together and talk about not touching our faces, etc. We also had to tell him why we cancelled our Seattle trip and why we arenāt taking him to karate right now. He came home one day and said āI know all about coronavirus. If you feel sick, you go to the hospital or you might die!ā He said this to me as an instruction along with dramatic clapping to get his point across. Bossy little kid! (Ftr I did correct him)

Has anyone started organizing anything in their community as far as mutual aid?
Iām thinking about talking to the local moms about some kind of childcare arrangement sign-up if/when the schools close.
Obviously, if thereās a quarantine, you donāt want kids shuffling in and out, but at the same time, doctors, nurses, first responders, etc will still have to report to work.
Just kind of thinking out loud at this point. Anyone have opinions on this?

But we approached it pretty much how @klongoria did, explained the situation, told him some people are getting very sick, but that kids are mostly doing okay. This is what I emphasized. Mostly that we need to be diligent to protect others because those with health problems are most at risk, but that most people/kids will be ok.

NPR had a kids slideshow/cartoon on Instagram that we showed the kids. J had come home saying a friend had it. We have watched Daniel Tiger shows about being sick and the Story Bots episode about germs. cagoldi my bosses wife is emergency personnel for city schools and will be serving lunch every day at a selected school for kids. Our county I assume is planning for this as well. Our PTA list Serv has an email about interest in mutual sharing, but unclear if it is to support those in need or what. If there is a fund though, I'll contribute Our aftercare just emailed and they will be open and able to provide care starting next wed. We won't use it, but I am relieved for people that can't telework like I can.

Hi!
Iām at work today. Nothing new here. I think there is now a second positive case down where the first was. I may just make that Costco run today instead of tomorrow. I donāt think shelves are bare here, but how that last 48 hours unfolded was something, so itās only a matter of time.
We havenāt said anything to M yet, but will probably reiterate the hand washing and sanitizer spill. Iām not planning to stay inside all weekend yet because I think by next week we will have to be more diligent about social distancing.
