Did you guys see in the article that there was another school district with a similar policy but they changed it in 2018. I would put money on betting that this policy exists elsewhere in Utah. Its Utah. I'm surprised Idaho doesnt have the same policy. Lol I think this school district in the story is actually close to Bear Lake, which is right in that border area. You're probably right about Idaho.

I'm 100% certain they were told this would happen at the very beginning.

I'm 100% certain they were told this would happen at the very beginning. It appears to be a fake statement. Still funny.

It's surprising. If we're more polarized than ever why are the number of registered independents increasing and the number if Ds and Rs decreasing?

If you believe "both sides" arguments, being a registered independent might give a sense of sticking it to the parties. It they are so polarized they can't identify with whatever they see as the party values currently. Just thoughts as I'm def not an independent. Maybe the definition of independent is changing. People just don't see themselves in the existing party structure.

Last night 45 told gop voters to flip over and vote for Bernie since their primary is completely open. Which holy fuck. I can not remember a potus ever encouraging that kind of shit. I know it’s happened organically I have just never seen it openly encouraged.

I think the encouragement of creating chaos in an open primary is disgusting. I also feel the need to clarify something. I’ve mentioned voting in our open republican primary instead of democratic one to get my voice heard in local races. But I want to make one thing clear: I vote for the person in each office that would, in my opinion, make the best person in each office should the be elected. That’s completely different than voting for the “weakest” or “extreme” candidate to make your preferred party have an advantage in the general.

We’ve had some not so bad gop here that I would have voted for and there have been seats that don’t have a dem contender in a primary. I’m unable to vote for who I feel would be best in that case. So I completely understand the switch sides for the best person. I’m in agreement with you. Also sending your house healthy vibes!

My H and dad are both independents because they dislike the power that the major parties wield over politics and the level of corruption and tribalism that party politics brings. But both align closely with the Ds on most issues and still vote that way. I wonder if moderate Republicans are feeling similarly and if it changes how they vote?

The GOP has shifted significantly to the right so I am not surprised that center right people don't feel like they are represented in the Republican party. The most active people politically I think are more polarized but I think there are still a large swath of people in the middle.

I’m not at all surprised by that stat. Many people I know IRL are disgusted with both parties and don’t see themselves represented by establishment politics. Especially younger voters. I think it’s a big reason why Bernie is doing so well.

And this is (one of the many) frustrations I have with NY voting. I was registered as independent, but we have closed primaries and o wouldn't have been able to vote.
NY is archaic in it's voting practices and it is maddening.

I heard the "looking into closing the southern border" bit in the car, live, and shouted "WHY THO" into the void.

Man I know I'm not a religious person, but it took me way too long to realize this was a reference to the biblical Noah. My first thought was this: I'm not religious at all, in fact, Debbie Dingell was on an interview and had a huge black mark on her forehead about 2 hours ago. I was like WHAT HAPPENED? it JUST now occurred to me they were her ashes. And only because another person was on a few minutes ago and it actually looked like a cross. Im late but lol I did this at work on Wednesday. I thought my coworker had bruised her forehead somehow, and didn’t say anything. Then the second coworker came in with ashes and the lightbulb went on.

Anything to make it more of a crisis down south. Because that's definitely the way travelers from countries with outbreaks are making it into the US. Oh wait.
