So I had B's conference last night. I am concerned that he is not up to where he should be. The teacher acknowledged that he was a bit behind but said most of the class was (she was out on Maternity leave till November and the sub was... not great). She believes he can catch up and suggested that I do flashcards with him. It's mostly the alphabet he is behind on. She thought it would be helpful for me to find something S could do with him (she taught S and knows his personality). Anyway, I'm online looking at flashcards. Any that y'all liked? For reference, he'll be 3.5 in 2 weeks. Do you have dollar stores? Our alphabet and number cards came from there. I think they are Sesame Street and Winnie the Pooh.
Now that Cadence is doing sight words I just made my own with the words her teacher said they would learn that year. Just bought the different colored index cards and made them from that, so that could be an option too.
Also jewels Check Target dollar spot. They always have little learning cards and such.

I had to go into work for a really stupid training. It was an hour long Skype session and literally about 1 minute of it pertained to me. What a waste of time.
My house, including the basement is around 2100 sq ft. The next house we build (DH is sold on building again and who am I to say no) will probably be around 3000-3500 sq ft. with 3.5 baths. I want a 2 story, maybe colonial style. I’ve learned that I don’t love completely open concept and I want a separate entryway. Sometimes when I’m bored I go to the house plan websites and look for ideas.

These are adorable. X and P would probably love them, but I cringe at seeing that many pieces. Rocktopus and Magnatiles are already ruining my life. magnatiles are so frustrating, they get so mad they cannot carry around their creations. they have fun building, try and bring to to me to show, it falls and crashes then there is crying. Every single time. Yessssss.

jewels I honestly am not sure how S is doing with letters, I should quiz her. After Christmas they started tracing their names every day when they get to school. She’s starting to get better, but still isn’t great. She brought this home yesterday. I’m pretty sure she was supposed to write her name and that’s as close as she got. PDQ

Same with Dd (4 in May). She recognises her name, ds’s name and can write the first letter of ds’s name, which she is very very proud of . That's great! B definitely can't do any of that. He certainly can't write anything. Oh I meant to write that as an encouragement, that Dd was in no way near recognising letters too, not to brag about Dd!

M really wanted stairs and I was like probably not dude, unless it’s like an above garage space or something.

guster I'm team Weirdo I keep wastebaskets in all bedrooms and baths, the laundry room, under DH's desk, and obviously a larger trash can in the kitchen. My mom always kept them in bedrooms so I guess that is "normal" to me. DH's mom does not have one in her guest room, and it drives me crazy when we're there and I have to leave the room to throw something away, haha. eta: our bedroom and bathroom trash cans, and the one under DH's desk, are all more 'decorative', if you can call a wastebasket decorative, lol. Only the ones in the kitchen and laundry are more 'industrial' (the stainless kind). Not sure why, but I was not expecting this answer from you. I would have never thought you kept wastebaskets in each room, but the “decorative” ones makes sense. Haha! I kind of hide them, they're not really in sight from the door. I just like ready access to throw away tags, loose threads, tissues, etc.

trtlcrzy I'm not huge on completely open-concept either. I like a kitchen and family room to be open to each other, but I like a separate entry hall and formal living and dining spaces. Our last floor plan was terrific, I just want it a little bigger this time. Southern Living has great house plans, if you want another place to look. lahdeedah B has 3 'requirements' for the next house: his own room, a pool, and stairs, lol. If we pull up to a friend's house that is a 2-story, he asks if they have stairs in a very awed tone. Now that the kids are a bit older, I'm kind of ambivalent, but I definitely prefer a ground-floor master.

We have a small-ish house but there is vaulted ceilings in more than one place, fully finished basement that includes a bedroom, bathroom, laundry room and huge living area, there isnt any wasted space at all. There was a time a while back where we were looking at plans and show homes but we are so comfortable in our neighbourhood and the people around us that we're now finding that we'd rather update our current house to stay put. Plus I dont like a lot of 'stuff' so a smaller house makes me live a little lighter. We definitely go in phases of loving our home and wanting to start over.
Then we talk about how when the kids are older we buy a condo and reno it to the max so we can have our new place without kids wrecking our space.

This was my number 1 requirement when we were looking for a house, it crossed off so many houses and every now and then our realtor would take us to see one and I tried to have an open mind but just couldnt.

Finally caught up.
I keep a clean car. I see red whenever my mom rides with me and leaves crap. I have a firm rule that we only get the mail on our way home. So its only in my car for a minute. Otherwise A stashes it somewhere and it drives me nuts.
Our first floor is 1900 square feet and we are out growing it. When the attic is done (will be this spring hopefully) then we will have an extra 1100, so 3000 total. A thinks it's way to big now. I disagree. when we finish the basement, which will be a few years, we'll have another 1500 finished. 1/4 will be left unfinished for storage.

Thank you wineallthetime I feel that sometimes I have unrealistic expectations. L and B would be in the same K class so that makes me feel like maybe he is more on track. I honestly thought you were talking about S at first. They cover letters at the beginning of k! Def fine at 3.5! N's teacher mentioned he was surprised she knew a bunch of her letters recently. We thought she was picking them up at school somehow, but they haven't been doing letter recognition. Even the Pre-K class doesn't really monitor what kids know beyond letters and counting to 20.. (clearly a play based school).

(clearly a play based school). He literally doesn't even recognize it's a letter. I believe most of the other kids that age can at least pick out a few letters. Maybe I'm wrong... I do struggle b/c S just picked everything up so quickly so I'm just not sure what's normal. You guys definitely made me feel a bit better though... maybe I need to just lighten up Honestly I think there are so many different places a kid can be at this age. Some obviously pick things up early and some struggle and are late learners. Some are right in the middle. I think I just have 2 kids at 2 different extremes and I have to just stop putting expectations on B b/c of S. That's so not fair to him.

I hate wasted square footage. I like spacious. But purposeful. I dont need 12 feet between the foot of my bed and the wall. Or a 6 foot circle in my bathroom. I meticulously chose our floor plan and changed it to fit our needs for storage. I'm going through and purging and organizing each room again and it's crazy how much we have accumulated in under a year.

jewels I remember B's 3 y.o. teacher talking to me about working with him on his letters, b/c there were a bunch he didn't know (at this point he would have been not quite 4). He just could not seem to grasp a lot of them and I was worried. I'd work with him and it was like he wasn't even trying, which frustrated me to no end (#notateacher). Last year in Pre-K they did a letter/week and he definitely 'caught up' without issue (if he was even 'behind' to begin with...in hindsight, I'm skeptical). Now in K I think he is probably one of the most prepared in his class in terms of pre-reading skills, and has no trouble with letters, sounds, writing, etc. So I wouldn't panic just yet.

Josie came home from school with her jacket and under it just a tank top. I sent her in leggings and a tank top with this fleece sweatshirt that zips only to the bottom of her neck. She has three of them – grayish black, pink, and a minty green. She’s wore the first two before with similar outfits (either leggings or sweats with a tank top and then the fleece. sweatshirt on top.) She has never taken it off before When I questioned her, she told me she got hot right after morning meeting and took it off then. She put it in her backpack. She went her whole day like this. She told me nobody questioned it or asked her if she was cold or where her shirt was. I’m irrationally annoyed about this. I know it’s not preschool, but she encountered at least six or seven adults one on one today, plus there are only 11 kids in her class and it’s flu season. Next time I know to send her in a long sleeved shirt underneath.

jewels, I wouldn’t be worried. H is pretty much the same. He’ll be 4 in April and recognizes an H and sometimes the other letters of his names, but sometimes has no clue. And these are new developments in the last few months. He is so so different than N. My nephew is in kindergarten and didn’t know all the letters of the alphabet and his teacher said it wasn’t anything to worry about at the beginning of the years.

Hi hi. The 4 month sleep regression hit like a ton of bricks so it’s been a long week! L is determined to wake up as many times as possible before I finally cave and bring him into bed... at like 2:30. Haha I’m such a sucker. He was such a great sleeper, waking up once a night since he was like 6 days old, so this is a rude awakening.

My other aunt and uncle have a 9,000 sq ft house. They love to entertain and it looks like a hotel. Giant bar, huge full outdoor kitchen, ect. They also have housekeepers. When we go over there they typically have bartenders, caterers, ect. It's definitely not the life I live haha Are they interested in adopting?

I found an UO; I hate layers and rather be cold than wear layers. A tank top, with a shirt over it annoys me so much! Even skirts/jeans with a top, all.the.tugging. For everything to stay in place. Give me all the 3/4 lenght sleeve dresses, one layer and no long sleeves thank you very much. Because I don’t like long sleeves either.

Dresses are a rare occasion in my life. that means I might have to shave my legs or something stupid. No way that's happening during the week.

I'm annoyed with myself. My oldest nephew is getting married this summer, I offered to throw his fiance a bridal shower. My mom said I could do it at her house since it's bigger than mine. Cool.
I have been talking to the fiance and we set a date, so I told her I'd get a list together for her and my nephew to review. I sent it to my SIL (grooms wife) this morning and she added her side of the family. It's like 14 that will probably show on my side and 29 on hers.
So now I'm trying to find a place to rent because my moms house can't handle ~40 people.
Then I realized I will likely have to do this 2 more times, when my other nephew and niece get married. I should have kept my mouth shut and attended said shower hosted by someone else. This is going to cost me $$$.
