One thing I would say people here should do is fill your gas tanks I saw the price of oil has sky rocketed. I hope the gas stations are not like that after 9/11.

I'm seeing a lot of people freaking out about our safety here and starting a war zone in the USA and I feel like they don't understand how this works. Of course we are always at risk of a terrorist attack but correct me if I'm wrong in thinking that our systems of attack are much more sophisticated than theirs and the likelihood of battlefronts in the US is ....very small. Correct? Correct, as far as I can tell. It seems like experts in ME affairs expect cyber attacks and retaliation against US and Israeli interests in the ME, including the possible expulsion of US forces from Iraq.

Of course we are always at risk of a terrorist attack but correct me if I'm wrong in thinking that our systems of attack are much more sophisticated than theirs and the likelihood of battlefronts in the US is ....very small. Correct? It sounds like attacks on US personnel in Iraq, attacks on oil refineries/tankers, cyber attacks, even more aggressive attempts at destabilization in Iraq/Syria, etc are most likely. That article did say that the Qud Forces have made attempts at terrorism in the US but haven't been effective in that arena so far.

I'd like to think someone in the GOP understands how disturbing this assassination is, how un-American, but they're all foaming at the mouth and out for blood in the ME so I'm not holding my breath.

That's what I thought. Americans in that region and our troops are the ones most at risk aside from ME civilians as well, but it seems like a lot of people on my newsfeed are freaking out about having to get into a bomb shelter immediately or something. I am not trying to downplay the incredible seriousness, of course. This is absolutely horrendous and I'm feeling very much as I did in 2002. The odds of combat on US soil are very, very, very slim. I'm worried about our people (and facilities) in Qatar. And I'm worried about the election. yes, I am very worried about our citizens, both military and otherwise, over there. And I am worried for all the innocent ME civilians that will be inevitable casualties in all of this. It makes me sick. The election is going to be such a shitshow.

Remember that time I said I was really afraid of what he would do in the future if he was acquitted on the impeachment charges and if all the Rs just fell in line from both the House and the Senate?
Yeah, the future is now...
Fuck.

Glad someone is saying this. This strike is tactically good, strategically disastrous one of the talking heads this morning was saying, yes he WAS bad, but he also stood between Baghdad and ISIS. so he was a useful enemy.
I'm not upset necessarily that he was taken out. It was the WAY it was done. We have a CiC just doing what he wants with no thought to repercussions and without oversight. Thats my problem.

Also willow while I agree there is almost nil chance of traditional war on us side, I would be concerned about cyber warfare disrupting things like electric grids and air traffic. They can do real damage in the US without any physical presence.

The first sentence of that statement made me feel stabby. This is nothing to congratulate the president about.

The first sentence of that statement made me feel stabby. This is nothing to congratulate the president about. The whole statement made me stabby. "today justice was done..." is BS. Potentially starting ANOTHER war, when we aren't even out of the previous conflicts, where more servicemen and women can be killed or injured is not fucking justice.

They are deploying thousands of more troops from the 82nd airborne. About 3000 to be completely transparent, those troops have been on alert since the initial attack on 12/27.

As an outsider to all this, and not fully understanding either the Iran-US angst nor the reason behind so many US troops in the ME - if the embassy is evacuating as many Americans as they can, immediately, and the stated point of troops in Iraq is to protect Us citizens and assets (and support the new Iraqi govt, which has now stated “uhhhh no thanks”) why are they sending more troops to Iraq? To guard the empty embassies?

To guard the empty embassies? Its all part of the game. Trump wanted this so that we will be attacked and we will have provocation to move against Iran. Why are we sending 3K Troops in if we ordered all US citizens out of the area today. They would be landing as everyone else is leaving. This is all a plan. Also where was the communication with Congress. The aggression act we have had in place since 02 should have been rescinded 15 years ago.
