PDQ
Do you guys remember last Christmas when DH had back surgery on 12/26? He had spent 2.5 weeks unable to sit down - he literally could only stand or lay down. He had a severely herniated disc at L3/L4 that required surgery. He also had a bulged disc at L4/L5 and the surgeon said depending on how surgery went he might be able to repair the bulge while he was in there. Well, he didn't need to go that far down to repair the L3/L4, so he left L4/L5 alone.
GUESS WHAT??????
DH's L4/L5 herniated last Thursday morning and he had another back surgery on Friday. The timeline for this one was super fast because DH lost the function in his left foot so they didn't want to wait since the nerve compression was causing paralysis (not just pain like last time). Surgeon wants him off work for 8 weeks but he won't be able to lift or do much physically for a long time. The boys are older now and require less hands-on than his last recovery, but I'm still feeling really frustrated at the lack of help I'm going to be having for the foreseeable future. Again.
Ugh. Venting here so I don't take it out on my patient recovering in the next room.

CoachTsWife Oh no! That’s horrible news. I’m so sorry - I know your H can’t control these events, but nonetheless it really, really sucks that you have to be the one holding down the fort by yourself with both kids...again...on top of all the work you do during football/coaching season. I feel for you - if you need to vent, we’re here. I hope someone in your family/friends network can help out at least a little bit in the next 8 weeks to give you a break. Hugs. cythe That toy chest looks awesome! Great work!!

I had an old O17er pop up on my facebook newsfeed and I couldn't remember her screenname. I looked back in my messages to find it, so I'm tagging arimaythea in case she wants to come play again.

I am at karate with DS1. H has always taken him so I am getting a kick out of watching this. My kid is so uncoordinated.

CoachTsWife oh no! You just got done with football season too - booooooo! I’m so sorry and I know there’s no other choice but to mom up and do it but that is the worst. So sorry. Please use us as a sounding board to vent - 8 weeks is a long time. curmudgeon DD1 is super uncoordinated and I’m thinking of karate or gymnastics for her. DD2 has better balance and coordination I think so I’m not sure how we dropped the ball with her skills 🧐

H and I took the girls to Great Wolf Lodge for the night. They both loved the water park and DD2 knows no fear which is terrifying as a parent since she’s surrounded by water. I’m exhausted and it’s only 6:30 so I’m not sure we’re going to make it to our normal bedtimes tonight!

danvers I know you shouldn’t be embarrassed by your kids, but he is falling over for no reason. I’m very Mariah Carey “I don’t know her.” Kidding! ETA: did the girls do the magic wand stuff too? DS1 asks all the time when we can return. Great Wolf is such a fun place!

Please use us as a sounding board to vent - 8 weeks is a long time. He cannot return to work for 8 weeks but will be under strict lifting/activity restrictions for months. It really blows. You never realize all the small things you do in a day that he won't be able to do for a good long while - lifting a child into their seat at the table or into their car seat, putting a child in their crib, giving a child a bath, carrying groceries in from the car, and on and on. None of those are hard things it just feels 'heavy' when I think that every single task like that is on me for the next several months.

duskymonkey omg that is amazing!! I love that costume and can’t believe it’s homemade. Can you make my DS1 one? 😂 I actually can! Now that I know how to execute it with better modifications. The hard part was coming up with the design and materials to use and execute it. I had to take it apart a few times to make adjustments. You’ll have to wait for awhile yet. I’m recovering from surgery at the moment. 😬

CoachTsWife gosh! Sending you all the biggest creepy internet hugs. Wishing your H a speedy and well recovery. I can tell you that he’s probably feeling awful aside from pain management post op about not being able to help cos that’s what I’m feeling now laying around and feels no helpless. 😩

cythe you did such a great job with the chest! Is it oak? I love the stain color you chose, brings out the wood grain so well. You’re such a handy lady. I’ll have to hit you up on tips about wood painting and such. Have you narrowed your kitchen choices yet?

So I’ve been so swamped with day to day stuff on top of work and making ds’ costume, my surgery crept up and it happened yesterday. I got home late from work the day before too so I really had no time to think about it. Anyways my OB managed to do a LAP procedure with just a few puncture wounds around my abdomen. I think she took it as a challenge cos initially when discussing, she said LAP was out of the question due to the size of my fibroids. When we met this past Monday, she said she’ll give it her best shot to make it work and I’m so grateful to her putting my best interest forward and not taking the easy route . She removed a little over 3lbs worth 😱 anyways she did it and it was difficult and took over 3 hours but recovery will be easier for me. I also refuse to take the narcs prescribed because I felt like shit yesterday when they had me take them before surgery. At one point I mumbled to the nurses, if Junkies felt like this the whole damn time on drugs...no thank you, it was horrid. I feel a little better today and hoping it’ll get better day by day. I’m just a little sad I can’t cuddle with my boys for a while.
In other news, the attorney emailed me closing docs to sign yesterday. They’ve done the inspection and appraisal and we haven’t gotten a counter so we should go to closing right? I’m a nervous nelly now and so so curious what the appraised value is.

They opened one about 1.5 hrs away south of us. Also hear you on the fearless part, lil fella is the same plus hubs can’t swim and neither can I 😩

doodlemommy how are doing with baby and two more! How is baby? We are good! Baby is a dream. He sleeps really well and is so pleasant and adorable. DS is definitely testing his limits when it comes to listening or lack thereof...but overall he’s doing well with the adjustment. Today is my my birthday and we are just heading to the midwife for a check up then out for dinner!

doodlemommy Happy Birthday!!! I hope everyone sleeps a long time for you tonight and you hear nary a whine! duskymonkey the girls loved GWL and it was perfect for 1 night away. There was a lot to do for toddlers/preschoolers in terms of little slides and splash areas. They both loved the wave pool the most so we spent a lot of time there. DD2 didn’t do great in the hotel bed but I expect whenever we transition her to a big girl bed she will get better about bed sharing.

duskymonkey, hope you have a quick recovery! I also hate painkillers - they make me dizzy and nauseous. No fun. I'd rather take some ibuprofen and a nap. Work is busy so that's good. I've been growing my plant collection lately - I have over 30 houseplants!!! Like where did this all come from! M loves to smell the "flowers". So sweet.

Hi all, I haven’t been around much. Life has been busy and I haven’t been myself lately. Last week was an especially hard week, this miscarriage has really messed me up and life has generally not been going well.
On a happier note DD2 turns 2 tomorrow! I can’t believe how time flies. We are doing a small thing for her tomorrow and then a bigger party for her next weekend. I took DD1 out today to pick up stuff for a cake and a present. Kindergarten has made her such a grown up little person and our conversations are so funny.

August Blooms Like was for your DD’s birthday. I’ve been thinking about you and wondering how you were doing, but I didn’t want to call you out if you didn’t feel like talking about it. Big hugs - I have a loss history and can empathize about the mental (and physical) toll it takes. I’m so sorry. Is there someone you are able to talk to about how you feel? We’re always here for you - even if it’s just to listen to venting. Has everything settled in with your new place? I’m sure moving and going through such a traumatic experience at the same time was really stressful too. duskymonkey I hope your recovery goes smoothly and that you can get back to snuggling your boys ASAP! Great to hear they were able to do everything via lap. I have a feeling this is in my future, so it’s nice to hear that they could have your surgery be minimally invasive. I also don’t like narcotics - they make me nauseous. I normally just take OTC painkillers after surgery. doodlemommy Happy birthday! So nice to hear the baby is a good sleeper and that all is going well with the transition to 3. Hope the midwife appointment went smoothly.

Anyone else have costumes to share? I love seeing all the kids dressed up. They are always so cute.
