tallb, no, I don't think he ever had them. I think his mind went directly to cost of braces. His mind always goes to cost of things, unless it's something for himself. It's an issue, we're working on it....sort of...

I pray my kids won't need braces, but I'm sure at least one will. I never had them but MH did.

That is odd klong11 - basically all kids need braces.. did he have them ever? This is what I thought. My bil believes braces are cosmetic only and told his girls he would not pay for them. They were free to get them if they were willing to pay. He and my sil are now divorced and she is paying for Invisalign for the girls.

In my family, my sister had the worst teeth so she got the braces (and promptly had a roller blading accident that knocked out her front teeth after getting them off). I paid a small fortune in my early 20s to straighten out my front teeth and my brother just ignores his. It's definitely not a situation I'd want to recreate. That said, DH had braces and never wore his retainer afterwards, and his teeth are in far worse shape than mine. Our kids certainly won't have that option, LOL!

Yep, her mouth will need to get bigger to fit all these teeth. I jokingly told mh that braces were in her future and he got weird saying she wasn't going to need braces and absolutely not. Uh...huh? If she needs them, then she'll get them, he doesn't get to decide the state of her teeth. LOL Lol. I’m expecting braces for M. Like jewels, MH had to pull teeth and have braces/retainers. I hope M2 has inherited my tooth/jaw structure so I won’t have to work only to give all my money to the orthodontist.

My dad refused to pay for braces for me and my siblings for the same reason. I still have 2 baby teeth. I will eventually get braces but probably not for a few years.

Knowing Cadence, she'll probably want Invisalign

I'm all for paying for braces or whatever as needed, I just hope it's not needed!

Knowing Cadence, she'll probably want Invisalign Is that even an option for kids? I truly don't know. It's becoming more common for teens I think. I researched Invisalign last year when my dentist said I need it. I think it depends on what needs correcting. I'm eye rolling the cosmetic part, improper alignment can cause jaw and tooth issues based on how teeth wear. I get that some can't afford it, but if you can make it work, it's an investment in oral health too.

I feel like it’s a lot more than cosmetic. There can be other issues especially with the jaw.

This is just one of his many proclamations that made me crazy when I met him.

We are meeting with the orthodontist Wednesday to find out the recommended treatment plan and cost for my oldest for braces. They sent me paperwork wanting to know if we are going to pay in full or do a payment plan. I feel like I can’t answer that without more information. I have heard $1,000-$10,000 from various other parents.
T hasn’t lost teeth yet but he’s my only hope for no braces. The oldest is getting started, DD has the micro tooth problem, and the baby has a gap from his lip tie so they will all need treatment.

Cadence has a lip tie, so we're waiting to see how her top teeth come in on whether we need to do anything for that. Her next dentist appointment is in Oct.

This may be a stupid question, but it’s late and my brain is mush. What problems can lip ties cause? M2 has one, sooooo I may be doomed, too. His pedi and dentist made it seem like no big deal and most times they resolve itself with “injury”. That injury part had me like 🤔. klong11 kim22

My brother and I are braces fails, through no fault of the braces. My brother got his off and fell (dumbass jumped actually) off a cliff a week later breaking his jaw and lost his four top front teeth. I refused to wear my retainers and my mom didn’t fight me on it. I have just one tooth that slipped back but it drives me batty. That said, C will likely have braces although DH didn’t need them.
One of my work friends is getting Invisalign soon and in talking about it she has a tongue tie. It was weird/kind of gross to see but the dentist said it wasn’t a problem. Not exactly the question but needed to share.

He fell hitting his mouth around 2 and basically the tie tore. I knew it resolved because there was blood I investigated.

We're just waiting to see what sort of gap there is and if some of the flesh(for lack of a better word) needs to be removed to help close that gap. So really, it's mostly cosmetic.

But her mouth is super narrow and her teeth were quickly being pushed into the middle.. she has beautiful teeth now though lol.

I had mine clipped when I was 7 or 8.

That injury part had me like 🤔. klong11 kim22My sister and I both had it and we had big gaps in between our front teeth. That is the same thing C has. We had ours clipped when we had braces in middle school. If we hadn’t had it clipped, it would have pushed our teeth back apart when the braces came off. I can still feel the thick part of the other side of the muscle on the roof if my mouth. This seems to be what they are thinking for C. My dentist said we can fix it now or later. I had the ortho look at DS’s appointment and he said leave it alone until braces time.

Gotcha. Thanks for the info! M2 has a gap, but I actually don’t mind it on him. So cute. His lip tie is low, so he doesn’t like me to brush his front top teeth. I’m sure if it doesn’t resolve, we’ll have to do something about it.
