I finally figured out the secret to doing DD's hair without both of us crying and part of it involves me braiding it every night after her bath, usually in a french braid. I had never attempted a french braid until two weeks ago, and while i'm getting better, I still get bubbles, which the hair falls out of and gets tangled. I've watched a bunch of youtube videos but I can only find ones that are either kids with slightly wavy hair or of adults with way more hair than DD has and none of them are with wet hair. Anyone have any kid hair videos they recommend or any tips? Is this something I just have to keep practicing or is there some magical trick i'm missing? A saw a hairstyle at church on a fellow student that she just loved. She is begging me to do it. Its a bun with a French braid around it. I don't French braid. I guess I know what I will be learning in my spare time eh?

Also look up Dutch braid. It's like an inverted french braid. I find some people do better with one versus the other. I can do Dutch braids in my own hair and French braids in someone else's hair, but not the reverse lol.

A has kind of long hair but not very thick. I might try it later after I watch all the YouTube videos during nap.

Ignore if it does. I just find for me personally it's easier to make my fingers go a certain way, which works for different braids.

I didn't end up doing the Dutch braid, but the videos I watched did help me figure out where to pull new hair from so it ended up being the tightest braid yet.

D1βs hair looks so cute braided. My SIL has shown me a few times and I canβt for the life of me figure out a French braid. I just cannot get the concept for some reason. Grrrr itβs so frustrating. At least you are showing potential π I barely can do a regular braid in DDβs hair. I would fail miserably at a French braid Me too. Although we just got her hair cut and itβs too short for any braids now. I dread trying to learn though.

I took DD to see Secret Life of Pets 2. We are big fans of the first one so I thought it was a safe thing. It was fucking horrible. It was scary violent. At one point the bad guy takes out a gun, cocks it, and holds it to an animals head. DD was terrified for most of it. Im mad and sad about the whole thing. It was supposed to be a fun time and she spent most of it in my lap asking to go home. π Omg! My mom took DD and my nieces to this last week and didnβt mention that! I was iffy about whether it was ok for her first theater movie because I remembered the first had the bunny talking about killing his owner. Iβm sorry your DD was frightened! That sucks!

We drove 16 hours in 3 days and MY GOSH did we miss that pacifier. Yay for giving up the pacifier, but omg for doing the drive without it. Your are a much stronger person than me.Β For sure!! I didnβt daytime wean DS from the paci before our trip/flights this month specifically because it would be hard on me. π¬

This hit or miss crazy thunderstorm forecast is ruining my groove. I want to plan outside adventures without a 50-70% chance of being blown away. The places we go often donβt have buildings and we end up a mile or two away from the car on some hikes. The weather app and my local news are also saying different things so Iβm going to give it a go.

Weβve been able to do so much outside stuff the last two months. It reminds me of Upstate NY. This week itβs back on track with humid swamp ass but these storms have been intense. I think thereβs been three (small) tornadoes and straight line wind in the general area which is insane and highly unusual.

I live in CT and our area got hit by a tiny tornado last year around this time, which is unheard-of. It did a huge amount of damage to our giant maple but we were lucky in that there was no damage to the house. Tornadoes are so scary, stay safe!

Where I live, we have to drive to get anywhere so 45 minutes in the car is nothing.

The summer has gotten surprisingly busy compared to our usual years (this Maine trip is our first vacation since before I got pregnant with our S'16 kiddo!) but we'll definitely have to plan something at some point!!

I'm a little late to the game but sheilathetank, DD1 also likes me to do a french braid - she calls it "Elsa hair." I am decent at it but do it dry and she has really tangly hair so it looks really bumpy but not in a horrible way. I think the only way I could make it look better is if I brush each section as I go but who has time for that in the morning. The days that she request a pony tail or pigtails are my favorite because they take way less time.

BTDT moms - I need help moving my 18 mo old to her own room. She has been in a bassinet and now pack n play in our room since birth. We have tried moving her after she falls asleep and she usually startles awake. We have also tried starting her out in her room and letting her CIO but she gets so upset that she's almost hyperventilating. The only thing that has worked twice is DH has to get in the crib with her (he's 6'6" so this is not ideal) and wait for her to fall asleep and then sneak out of her room. Once she is asleep she will stay in there all night but it's the getting her to fall asleep thing that is the issue.
We are due with our 3rd in early November and also will be moving to a new house around that time and we really need her out of our room before both of those things happen!

DD hit 28lbs over the weekend! πππ Just two more lbs before we can turn her. Which can't come soon enough because we had another car puke incident on the way to the park yesterday.

sarahh, how do you put her down in the PnP in your room? Does she go down awake? Would it be easier for her to transition if you moved the PnP into her room? I feel like some method of sleep training is necessary so that she falls asleep independently in her room is the way to go and then you've got to stick with it. Ferber? Sleep lady shuffle?

piratecat, we transfer her to the pack n play asleep. I only had to do CIO with my oldest for a few nights and that worked so I'm not as familiar with any other technique.
