There aren't any articles that pre-date Meghan's pregnancy, that I can find, that reference Archie as a potential nickname. One classmate's mom is quoted to say some children call him "P.G." but no earlier mention of Archie.

For some reason I thought the Sussex title reverted back to the Crown, but my googling is coming up with nothing.

I’m seeing an article about it from back in January. I doubt that’s what happened. She was pregnant in January? I know. I wasn’t clear. I don’t think if your trying to keep a secret from the world for months re: sex and name, you talk about it in front of a 5-6 year old.

The Daily Mail says that George told a dog-walker while out walking with Grandma Middleton, “I’m called Archie,” back in January. Hmm. I need more info to decide if it’s truly his nickname, or like the two weeks my 5yo wanted to be called Mia Onchao Lyria Flower. I love Doria in that photo. She and Meghan look so alike. I did not see Archie coming. But I think it’s cute and a good fit for them. It’s no Steve or Jason, but oh well. The Fail also says it’s currently a top-20 boys name in the UK. Lots of pregnant moms in England will be crying about their stolen name, haha.

Do you think Meghan asked the queen to sanitize her hands before touching the baby? ”Have you had your t-dap booster, your majesty?”

I love the pic with the Queen, she looks like a proper granny in her cardigan. I wonder if the blue was on purpose?

I adore that photo, it is among my top faves of the royals ever. So glad they included Doria too! ❤️ I never would have called Archie in a million years but I like it for them. I thought they would do something that had a nickname that would end in a y/ie. I wonder if Harrison is because it could be considered to mean "son of Harry"? I wonder about that significance. You can just feel the love for Archie radiating off that picture. Like the Queen was literally just a loving proud Great Granny not The Queen

I am enjoying imagining that it’s actually George’s NN, and they know it, and they’re being jerks and pulled it out of the hat without consulting with W&K. Surprise! I highly doubt that’s how it went down, but it would be a great storyline on Season 5 or 6 of The Crown. The glorious backstabbing.
I can’t see Harry doing that to his cute nephew, though. At the very least, I see them getting a blessing from them to use the name, if it’s actually his NN.

Archibald Harrison means Genuine and Bold Son of Harry/Henry. I don't love Archie as a name, but I like the meaning, and I think Harrison is a sweet way to give him Harry's name without actually having a Junior. One of Harry's middle names is Charles, so I like the continuance of the tradition.

Maybe George was using it in the way that my son wanted to be called Hulk for a while. Then when he moved past that stage, Harry and Meghan said, “oh, that’s a cute name,” and went with it.

Like roguelily , I also live in Asia, and we have helpers/nannies/driver/etc. It’s pretty standard for someone on an expat package in my country to have all of that, and I think culturally, helpers/nannies/drivers/cooks are much more common here. I have had 2 babies in Asia - I could have easily had a night nurse, but I opted not to. I work full time and I breastfed both kids (DS1 until he was two, and DS2 is still breastfeeding at 18 months). Neither of my kids are good sleepers, but for me - it was important that H and I get up with them MOTN. In my specific case - since I would just nurse the baby back to sleep, I didn’t really need or want a night nurse. 🤷♀️ Most western expats I know could also easily arrange to have a night nurse, but they don’t for similar reasons. Privacy is another factor for many. So, I say all this to convey the point that just because Kate and Will have the resources to hire ‘round the clock help, it shouldn’t be automatically assumed that they use a night nurse or they don’t get up with their kids MOTN. Similarly, just because they can afford to have a chef, doesn’t mean that Kate doesn’t frequently cook. My mom always says that having a full house staff is the biggest thing she misses about living overseas. There was a person for everything on the family compound and my mom had a tutor for all of the staff kids that couldn't go to school. The household had such a fun energy!

I love the pic with the Queen, she looks like a proper granny in her cardigan. I wonder if the blue was on purpose? This reminds me of H’s grandmother who travelled across town to visit us in the hospital. Blue cardigan, blue scarf. We heard her come down the hall, talking to every nurse/cleaner/staff member listening, “this is my 7th and 8th great grandchildren, their names are...”

Ok I’ve been digging. Archie is automatically a Prince when Charles accends the throne UNLESS they decline the title.

And I'm on a roll with royal baby/hypothetical royal baby names. Sussex baby #2 will be a boy with the same name as your DD2. Where do I place my bet?!

Has it been discussed that Archie is George’s known nickname? I do not believe this theory which is sure to turn into backstabbin' gossip

My theory is that they knew the name was going to be Archie, said it in front of George, then George did the typical kid thing and started using it in front of people. I’m seeing an article about it from back in January. I doubt that’s what happened. Well, she’s been pregnant for eighty four years, so the January timeline still makes sense 😉.
