I don't care if the child truly did not know. So what they have a consequence due to their parent's actions.
They can deal.
Okay. I disagree. I don’t think a child should have to suffer due to their parents’ shitty decision. well in a perfect world, I agree. But children suffer much bigger consequences from parents' shitty actions than a potential delay of a fully paid college education by a semester or a year. Like on the scale of sucking, these kids have so many solutions at their fingertips.

Definitely not nearly as much as someone without a silver spoon in their mouth. But as I said, mixed feelings.

I feel mixed feelings in that I don't want any kids to suffer the consequences of shitty parent actions.
But I certainly don't advocate for any special accommodations for helping these kids out of the minor consequences of the shitty parent actions.

I mean I feel that way about a child whose parent is a drug addict or something, not this.
I could give zero fucks to any circumstances this Richie Rich kids might face.
I over here, wah wah wah (fake baby crying).

Okay. I disagree. I don’t think a child should have to suffer due to their parents’ shitty decision. Most of them aren’t kids, they’re typically 18 when they go to college. (Not saying 18 year olds are mature, but legally they’re adults.) I get what you’re saying about paying for your parents mistakes. But that’s kind of life. You get the privilege/‘punishments’ based on which family you’re born into. I meant child as in relation to a parent.

I’ll just say it, I don’t feel bad for the rich kid’s parents that got busted. I just don’t. I have limited sympathies, and I’m not reserving any for them. It’s not like they were stealing bread to feed their families. Or lying about their address to get their kids in better schools. I’m predjudiced and I can admit it. I know it’s not right. I completely understand this perspective, believe me. I get it. The level of sympathy I feel between these two sets of people are vastly different. Enormously. I disagree that sympathy is finite, though.

I am across the board in my opinion that I don't think children should suffer for their parents' shitty decisions.

Mostly I feel embarrassed for the kids who genuinely didn’t know. Like, Felicity Huffmans daughter, you really thought you became a genius overnight. You get an “oh honey” and a semi-condescending head pat. I don’t have genuine sympathy for you.
I learned today that Felicity Huffman had a parenting blog. Oh, irony.

Let me be clear, because this place. In no way do I feel the same level of sympathy for these kids ("kids" for the sake of this conversation) as I do to kids of drug addicts.

I don't care. Oh well. too late to apply now? Shoot, a consequence. I mean I get it. But I’m talking about the rare occurrence that the kid truly 100% did not know. Should they have to deal with the consequence of their parent’s bad decision? IDK. My mom took out student loans in my social security number and then never paid them and I had no idea until like 10 years later when Fannie Mae or whoever came a knockin. Its 100% a different situation but I had to deal with the consequence of my parents bad decision, so I had a little chuckle when I read your last statement. Thanks for fucking me mom!

I feel outright disgust and outrage at these parents and don’t really give a fuck about the kids because they’ll do just fine with their $$$$$ trust funds.

I heard a vague rumor that working for UC might be a discount on tuition for my kids, but I need to check into it further. If so, I guess I stay here for lyfe. My daughter's dad works at USC and she will get free tuition if he stays there. I am pushing for this, because free, but we are historically a UCLA family.

You’re definitely being the better person, here. I am petty and ready. 😂 You and me both. Fuck those over privileged brats. 99% of them knew and went along with it.

I don’t feel bad for Lori’s girls one bit, they knew what their mom was doing and were complicit. Felicity’s daughter who thought she earned her test score, I do feel bad for if she honestly had no idea. But she still didn’t earn her way into that school no matter what and shouldn’t be allowed to stay. Yes it sucks that she is in this situation through no fault of her own, but she still took a spot from a kid that may have earned it on his/her own.

I just can’t feel sympathy for someone that took every possible academic privilege in life and flushed it away and let mommy and daddy buy their way into university instead.

Yeah I have no ounce of sympathy for any of the kids that knew this was the way they got in, which I’m assuming is most of them.

I do agree with this and I think I said in a past post that I don't actually think they should be able to re-apply immediately (or outside of the window of normal applications).

Like God forbid you have to get yourself into college now, on your own merit. I can't even muster one ounce of sympathy. I sat here and tried. My spirit said nope nothing. they aren't going to have housing issues, financial issues, food insecurities, etc.

I have a hard time mustering up sympathy when rich people are involved. I will own my prejudices.
ETA - in regard to crimes like this etc

SO MUCH THIS. The hypocrisy just makes me so furious. You know at least half the parents (maybe/probably more?) that got caught had no issues talking about people pulling their own weight and all that crap. They just create another generation of awful entitled people. I also doubt that many have any sort of remorse other than the fact that they got caught. And on the other side you have people working so incredibly hard against all the odds just to somehow level the playing field and help their kids get an education.

I had a scholarship to U of AZ. I coulda been roomies with Kourtney. way late, but it was my dream school back in the day but my dad reminded me we had no money and it would be to hard to go. Imagine me 10 years later when I found out that Kourtney went there.

I’m so sorry, Cher. That really sucks. 😞 Thanks. I still think these parents are the worst. I think the kids prob are too. I just feel sympathy if someone truly had no idea and just had their world turned upside down.
