We've been so bad about starting threads lately! Maybe we should try a weekly one sometime.

Also hi! I'm working from home for the afternoon. I was at hospital all morning for the US and tests and just got home around noon. I don't think anyone really noticed I wasn't online.
We're supposed to go visit my friend who just had a baby! I'm excited to see him. We're planning to take some dinner over for them too.

Work is so slow this week. I thought coming back from a week's vacation would make things crazy but as it stands I think I'm going to duck out a little early.

I'm at work reading episode recaps of GoT. Everyone dies. Jk, I have no idea. I swore I wouldn’t watch the series until RR Martin released the last book. Jokes on me because it took him 7 years and I’m now taking forever rereading the billionty pages of all the previous books.

M vomiting has moved onto diarrhea so that’s fun. I’m really hoping she takes a solid nap so that I can get a good workout in. The house just feels very unhealthy right now.

I really wanted to rewatch it but I should have started awhile ago. I just need a refresher.

Cheshie6 for this age group do you normally do once or twice a week class sessions? ETA: swim classes, I think it’s called water discovery or something like that?

I think I have our bedroom thermostat figured out. I was thinking about it and our old dial thermostat was always super finniky. I always kept it low because the slightest increase would bump it up way more than intended. I just assumed it was the thermostat, as those dial ones really aren't super accurate and it was old af. So just for funzies I turned the temperature down in our room to what would be considered too cold, and it feels comfortable in there. So not the thermostat. Either the heater itself or something with the sensors.
Aside from that, I had a great work out at the gym. And now C is having a friend over for the first time (like aside from cousins or people DH and I are friends with). H is being super crazy, which is normally ok but this kid is having issues with being bullied so he's kind of sensitive and H jumping on top of him isn't helping lol.

I was in the Stone Age for far too long lol! #firstworldproblems Each kid signs up for one 30 minute session per week. Some parents try to do 2 but that usually burns a kid out! Our’s is also called water discovery.

This boy tried to get into my bed at 11pm last night... he even kissed my hand!!! Who made him so suave? I almost fell for it... lol but I stayed strong and didn’t bring him in till 7am. I love cuddles in the morning!

Cheshie6 and tgrimes M used to be in swimming class before she was 1 at the Y, Wednesday nights for 30 minutes. Then the pool closed for repairs, then the teacher left, blah blah blah. I just signed her up again because they’re finally running classes again and it’s a month long both Monday and Wednesday evenings. It seemed strange. I don’t about M getting burnt out, but I certainly will be.

Head colds are really the worst, especially when they hang around forever. You can’t even enjoy sleep.

It’s like you guys read minds. sophiegrace Cheshie6We are also looking at swim classes for the kids. We have a swim school that is actually about .5 mile from our house (just looked it up, 3 minute walk lol). But swim lessons would put us at $1000 for a 6 week class for the two. In my head, I feel like its going to be mostly them getting comfortable with the water etc. because it’s the group of 18-30 months. And I saw how my kids did with one soccer lesson. Haha. Ha. Haaahahaaaaa. So, in your guys experience and anyone else whose done them. Do you think I’d get the same out of me and MH taking them in the poop for a few times first and then signing them up for the following session? Or just let the pros handle it.

In the summer we do two 4 week sessions but it’s only half the price!

Also paging waitwhat and anyone else who travels with toddlers. I mentioned taking the kids on a one or two night trip.. DC is one of those options. Tell me about all the ways it screwed up your toddler when you returned home to routine, or how they slept during the trip, or what you would do differently next time around.

We haven't done swim classes since DS1 was about 14 months old, but holy shit to $1000 for 6 weeks! I think we paid $50ish for 1 kid for the same time frame.

I pay $70.00 for C's 7 week semester lessons. At this age, I personally wouldn't drop that kind of money on swim lessons, I'd just commit to taking them myself. I'm not putting H in lessons until next year because right now it'll just be him wanting to do stuff and not follow instructions and I don't feel like wasting my money to watch him tantrum when I can just take him to the pool myself and let him splash around and get comfortable with the water that way. ***my opinion is soley based on the temperament of my children and the programs available here****

kleigh, why so expensive? For a non-y member, they’d have one class per week for 8 weeks which is $140. Members are $68! Knowing how soccer went, I’d find out their refund policy!! This age is so finicky and you may find that you need to know that! Are you in the water with them? If you’re not, I’d look at their program. If it’s kinder swimmer, that may be traumatic! I’d look up that method before you commit because it can traumatize some kids and some parents! (Some kids thrive though! I’m not knocking it, it’s just not for everyone) I would get them in the pool and see how they are with you and yh first. If you find they are shy with you, they may be more shy with a stranger. Therefore, I’d start with parent/child classes. (You in the water with them) If they are comfortable with you, they may be good with a stranger. You may find one is fine with a swim instructor, and the other is not. That’s hard to predict.

Tell me about all the ways it screwed up your toddler when you returned home to routine, or how they slept during the trip, or what you would do differently next time around. Stick to your routine as much as possible and it shouldn’t mess anything up for long at all. Meaning, I go in fully accepting and acknowledging that it means being back at the hotel before I want to be there to make sure she’s not getting to sleep at 11 pm and sticking to being there for naps (when she was religiously napping..that is more flexible now). Bring lots of snacks in case meal times get tricky. One of the biggest mistakes I’ve seen people make is putting the money they’re spending ahead of their family’s sanity. Skipping naps, doing one too many activities, staying out in shit weather, etc. just because you’re there while everyone is miserable and hating life. BUT just do it. Traveling with M is so much fun with the right planning and mindset.

It looks like it’s all 8 sessions in four weeks for the entire summer. I’m exhausted thinking about it. I was going to do mid March-May just to get some basic rules and practice in both our heads to prep for our pool being open, but if might be done after this month. She’s in too many other programs.

When we went to the waterpark, I took C into the "deep" water the first day and he was not having it at all. The next day, we tried it again and he had a blast and was actually kicking his feet around. It always takes him a bit of time to get used to it so I definitely think you guys going to a pool a couple times would be worth it. $1000 is a lot for lessons though. Do you have a community center or anything else nearby? We're going to use our city parks and rec and it's like $60 for 6 weeks.
