guster Ouch! I'm glad you're ok. And a totally realistic thought. I think at this age now kids can learn to dial 911, this reminded me I should teach B specifics. I know at the firehouse open house they do a pretend 911 call that kids can lean from. We always have our phones, and the house phone, in one spot and he can reach up there so he would know where to go if I asked him to get the phone to bring it to me, but the actual call to 911 if I'm out cold is another teaching. I've got to do that.

guster I get you. I always think about that scene in Steel Magnolias where Julia Roberts' husband comes home to a crying baby and food overflowing on the stove. Scares the shit out of me.

I just looked, its going to be -10 with a real feel of -30. Nope nope nope. That’s weird because i keep my sister’s address as one of my weather app locations and it says 9 degrees there tomorrow. I thought you lived super close to her.

I thought you lived super close to her. About 40 minutes from her town. That's strange. Most news sites vary by a few degrees, the one on my phone says high of 5, low of 0 tomorrow. The news said the real feel of -30 this morning. Hopefully that's changed!

Has anyone spoken to xolastunicornxo ? I've been thinking about her. How is she doing? Yes, I've been checking in on her. She's dealing with a lot right now and probably won't be on for a bit. I can't even imagine. Please let her know we are missing her and are here if/when she needs anything.

Last year Josie’s school did a post office unit and worked on addresses. Thankfully we had already closed on on the new house, so they used that instead of her learning one and then having to learn a new one.

A year ago when we were in Disneyland I taught the girls MH's number. We go over it periodically and I've also added my number. They do pretty good and I think they could come up with at least one of them in an emergency. We talk about 911 occasionally as well. We also have several Amazon devices in our house and I have the app on my phone. They know how to call me and my mom (as I discovered when Cass called her at 11 pm one night) from any of those as well as intercom throughout the house and my parents house.

this is what I've found so far, some great tips kidshealth.org/en/parents/911.htmlThey refer to fire crews and such as emergency workers, but I call them 'community helpers', that's what he's learned in daycare/school. Also this: Say: “Have an emergency? Call 911.” When children are old enough to know their numbers, they’re old enough to call 911. You can also program 911 into a speed-dial button on every home phone and paint that button red with nail polish. Teach your kids to tell the operator they need help and to say where emergency personnel should come. Keep your address next to all the landlines, or put it into your cellphone and show your children how to find it. Apparently there is an app...because of course there is DialSafe Pro This has a cool Printable Sheet to put near the phones twincities.citymomsblog.com/can-your-child-dial-911-using-a-smart-phone-free-printable-apps/

I think we will be sticking with lo’s current school for next year. The before/after school care charges us if we miss more then 1 week a semester above what we are going to pay for it. I still have to talk to C about it.

Glad you're okay, guster. But that reminds me of how we need to start discussing with Colin what to do in an emergency. flamingo - I think since I've blocked that scene in Steel Magnolias out of my head since becoming a Mom. Worst nightmare.

Remember how I said there was not much of a difference between negative temperatures? I lied. It’s freaking cold! Currently -45 windchill which is 20° colder than this morning. It. is. brutal. I asked my boss if we can work from home tomorrow and he’s fine with it. So I’ll keep the kids home too. I won’t be leaving the house until Thursday. Too bad I can’t have wine

I just walked out to get the garbage cans and bring them back onto the garage and I slipped, fell backwards and hit my head. I took while to get up without anyone/thing to grab on to. Came back in, and tried to tell M that was scared me most of what would happen if the kids were inside alone and I couldn’t get up. His response after making sure I was okay to tell me not to worry about that bc it’s not what happened. Yes, it’s not. But it could have. I am annoyed with him now. I'm glad you're ok! I think of these things all the time... like I'm home with the kids and choke, have an aneurism, heart attack, ect. Terrifies me!

Guys.
If you need your H to get off his ass and clean, tell him a social worker is coming to the house.
Pete scrubbed and organized like a madman last night. The bathrooms, kitchen, and floors had been done earlier in the day but he still found three hours worth of stuff to do.
You would swear we were living in a crack den the way he hustled to make the house look perfect. Weird.

TW: My cousin and her baby’s daddy were separated and the daughter went to his house on the weekends. One Monday morning, she got a call from DC around noon saying that they never showed up. Nobody would answer his phone, so my cousin got over there to discover him dead. The baby was three at the time (16 now) and she remembers it. 😐

Times like this I wish my remote start wasn’t a stupid subscription service that I refuse to pay for.

I have FINALLY heard from the doctor about Sierra!! And....... .. . . . . My child is still a mystery So basically he says there are 3 possibilities: 1) It is an auto immune disease that isn't showing up on her labs. 2) There could be something compressing against the nerve or a structural issue that they could not see in the imaging. 3) Could be related to her genetic issue and it just hasn't been defined yet because it is very rare and not well studied yet. So we are going to try IVIG therapy to see if that helps for a few months. She will do 2 days at the hospital for the first round for observation. Then a month later she will go 2 days in a row but likely wont have to stay overnight. If that doesn't help we can try steroids but that has more side effects so he wants to hold off for now. Then surgery is the next option. It would be exploratory, basically and they may be able to rob some tissue from other nerves to repair the radial nerve that isn't working. But we want to hold off on that option to see if we get any results with IVIG.

Well that’s not very helpful, lfig. I’m sorry they didn’t have anything more concrete. Hoping the IVIG is beneficial to her.

I’ve never seen Steel Magnolias. I’m glad you weren’t injured, guster . It’s reasonable to think about, IMO. I never have either. It was one of the VHS tapes recorded from TV that was in my house as a kid. My mom and sister watched it a million times. I've seen bits and parts of it but never the full way through. I injured myself the other day (just my toe). But I screamed out a mad word. I was upstairs exercising and Cass was downstairs playing. The good thing is she was so concerned she didn't check on me until about 30 minutes later. Mom's screams < playing
