DS was asleep by 6:50 and barely ate again tonight. Poor thing. He was just so tired. Just a tad warm, not a fever. I couldn’t get a good look in his mouth, but what should I look out if he does get it? Do the blisters usually start in the mouth or limbs?? E had the blisters on her hands, arms, butt, legs, feet, and around her mouth. She was covered, but I never saw any in her mouth.

I’m so glad to have today off. Not only was I up too late watching football, but it’s only 2 degrees outside. E was up around 6, so it’s 8:15 and she’s down for her morning nap already. I’d like to go to the gym when she gets up, but I also don’t want to leave the house. I guess I’ll decide later. For now, I’m watching Outlander and drinking coffee. PS—Go Pats!! I forget exactly where you are, but H sent me the weather report where he was in NJ, it was 2° and felt like -19°. I can’t even imagine what that feels like. Fortunately he was only there for like 36 hours. I’m in MA, so basically the same weather as NJ.

quinn my ILs already winter 6-7 months a year in FL. But my mom and dad are both still here. My mom is retiring this year so I don’t know what the future holds for her and my stepdad but my dad won’t be going anywhere so we’re kind of stuck for now. However, if the perfect opportunity came up I think we would seriously consider it and I don’t think our parents would begrudge us. 🤷🏼♀️

Ds1 did not like getting his hair done. At all. But he didn't have a meltdown like he would have a month ago so I'm calling that a win! Hoping to get to the science museum tomorrow. They have a curious George exhibit ds1 is very excited about

GDI the rash on the butt look more pronounced like pimples. I’m calling it. We’ve got HFM in our house. Damn! Ok well versed ladies. How to I keep DD from getting it (and us for that matter?!)

Oh yikes!! You’re at an elementary school right? I didn’t think it broke out with kids that old. Yep! The babies in the daycare caught it, kids in every grade level K-6, and a few adults! It was some sort of different strain this year or something. My H had HFM a few years ago. He got the spots all over his palms but really no other symptoms. But he's a weirdo who catches everything. Good luck. It's no fun in littles.

Lysol, clorox wipes, and alcoholic beverages for everyone! This time of year sucks. Hope you are having a blast, AnnPerkins! N's doing better, but he's reached the "sounds worse than he is" part. His fever is gone, his diaper rash is mostly gone (save a few raw spots that the pedi recommended calmoseptine for, which is working like a charm), but the cough is lingering and his voice is hoarse from all the strain. But pedi cleared him for DC though so yesterday we were FINALLY able to get to BBB to look at car seats. Got the Graco 4ever for my car, and discovered it actually will fit in H's Jeep OK, so we're going to order another today. Kind of a stupid question here - our house doesn't have a garage, so cars are parked outside in the driveway. With the bucket seat, I'd just put a hat on N and layer him with blankies to get him outside (since I know no coats while in a car seat), but carrying just him/no bucket seat, that gets a little harder. I've been holding him tight and draping a blanket over him to get him to the car and from the car to DC (never more than a few feet either time), but is there an easier way to do this? Wrestling him into a coat then back out of it in the seat seems like a waste of time and energy, but if that's what's best then obviously I'll do it. Or, like everything, am I just overthinking this because it is so mother effing cold right now? We've been doing the coat wrestle lately because the temperatures and windchills have been below zero but usually we just snuggle and run. We also bought them both cat and Jack knock off fleece North face jacket that fit in the carseat.

You guys are making me feel very nervous and some sort of way about having to send C to DC this fall. Ugh, DNW sick littles.
I got C to sleep last night without nursing. I don't know if this is the end of BF for us but it looks like we're moving that direction. Lots of mixed emotions.

(For example, my 2.5 year old nephew has only been sick once so far this season.) The road to get there though... BLECH.

Has anyone ever used one of those combo silicone plates/placemats? (Like these) I want to give N a plate but his first move is to always pick it up and get ready to toss it, so I'm looking for alternatives.

I think this year (1-2) is so rough because they’re mobile and they put everything in their mouths.

DD figured out how to peel it up in about a minute. She’s an evil genius.

We have a bunch of silicone plates for DD but I don’t think we introduced it in front of her directly until she was closer to 18 mo or so. We also have a placemat with a lip that we used when she was first learning to eat.

She hasn’t gotten sick nearly as much this cold season in PS

Good morning! It’s snowing a ton, but ds1 still has preschool (the afternoon classes were canceled though). C keeps running up to the sliding glass door and hollering/pointing at all the big snowflakes coming down. I have to go to work for a bit this afternoon and then I’m hopefully going to visit my friend and her 2 mo old baby if the roads aren’t too terrible.

Good hand hygiene. But he was probably contagious before now anyways so it's a wait and see if the rest of the house get it. I wouldn't take him in to the pedi if he's otherwise feeling okay. I would use triple paste and if that doesn't work pick up an antifungal in case its actually a yeast rash.

So much snow today!
My normally 30-45min commute took me 1.5hrs. It's still coming down but should stop early afternoon so hopefully my commute home won't be too bad.

cakewench, I love our Graco 4evers! I put DD in a light jacket (although to be fair it's always pretty warm where I am). I just wouldn't do a thick puffy winter coat. I'll even put her in with her 'packable' down jacket because I think I can still get the straps pretty tight. Also, we have a silicone plate like that, but Nuby brand (aka cheaper!) and it's fine. We just use the cheap plastic ikea plates and bowls with DD now and she mostly doesn't try to pick them up until she's done and then I have six so I can just put them in the dishwasher. It's probably just the novelty at first and he'll get used to eating from a plate. DD is getting pretty good with her spoon and fork too, and I think they definitely need a plate or bowl for those to be effective. Be safe out there snow people! That sounds like a nice day today cnf

I brought ds1's trampoline inside and put a trampoline exercise video on the tv. It has entertained him for 15 minutes so far. Mom win! Whatever works. I can't get him to agree to go outside. But he was agreeable to going to the zoo. He was rotten this morning so the science museum was out of the question.

We're getting pounded with snow. We were only supposed to get 2-3cm but we got way more than that. DS's buses are cancelled AGAIN (3rd day in a row) so today is a day. cakewench we have something similar for DD1 and DS. DS cannot have his food touch so they're great. They do lift off but dont slide. We have monkeys and owls.

(Like these) I want to give N a plate but his first move is to always pick it up and get ready to toss it, so I'm looking for alternatives. We have that exact one. We have used it since he started solids (and used it with DS1 as well). He figured out how to pick it up the first day, I think. He normally leaves it alone until he is bored and then starts messing with it. At that point I just take it away and place food, a few bites at a time, directly on the table. He uses other normal plates too and does the same thing. I don't think there is a solution except ride it out and figure out what works. Kids are too smart for their own good, or our sanity. ETA: the food parts on the mini mat aren't huge so N is about to stop using it. His portions are outgrowing the plate. Not sure what portion sizes your kiddo has but if they are getting bigger I might look at something other than the mini.
