What does N13 do when painting an interior wall: "Cutting in" or taping? I need to know if I'm actually capable of learning the cutting in technique. I hire someone 😸

What does N13 do when painting an interior wall: "Cutting in" or taping? I need to know if I'm actually capable of learning the cutting in technique. I do a mixture of both. I cut in ceilings and tape off baseboards and windows. Regardless of method, it just takes a steady hand and figuring out the right amount of paint to put on the brush at a time. I've watched people dip their entire paint brush in and then try to cut it. It's a disaster. Just dip a half inch in and work in small sections.

We got ONE room painted yesterday, lol. But we had people coming in and out and the kids running around, hopefully we make more progress today. Also, we are realizing after getting quotes yesterday we are going to have to rethink our plan to do the wood plank tile. Shit is EXPENSIVE!!! After several $22000+ quotes and running numbers and trying to decide if it was something we could attempt to DIY, we decided we need to table it for now if we want to do everything else we also have planned for the house. It's something we can do in five years or so. BUT, we have to do something with the floors because they are awful, so we are back to the drawing board today. We are looking at manufactured wood, or even a laminate. I don't love the idea of laminate, but some if it that I've looked at looks pretty nice and a plus side is we could definitely install it ourselves, which would open the budget way back up. Plus it's only temporary for a few years. Dh also wants to look at ripping everything else and acid staining the concrete. I've seen it in other houses and think it looks great, but I feel it make look a little too modern for what we are doing. Anyway, pictures for reference. A laminate on the top and stained concrete on the bottom. Also, I was brainstorming a lot of these ideas as I was puking last night. Maybe this ms is going to give me a "tortured artist" type thing and I'll come up with all my best ideas in my misery?? Lol.

Here is our front yard before/after. We took down the giant bushes and redid the landscaping.

snoopmommymom Your house is lovely! love Tudor homes. We lived in one in KS...needed about $100k worth of work, but it was so charming from the exterior, lol.

After painting every wall and piece of trimwork in our last house almost single-handedly, I no longer use tape. I got really good at cutting-in freehanded, and sick of spending $$ on tape only to peel it off and throw it away.

xolastunicornxo I think stained/polished concrete can work in commercial spaces, but I don't love it in homes. Kind of cold, no 'give' if something (or someone) falls, very slippery. If the wood tile isn't in the budget for now, I'd probably do the laminate product. I like the one in the pic you posted!

xolastunicornxo I'd be interested in the price difference of the laminate and the $22k for what you really want, hopefully you can make it work cause redoing floors once you live in it is a nightmare.

xolastunicornxo I think the cement floors will look nice but might not be practical for the kids. They could really hurt themselves if they fell!
