Monday mishaps

Tonight will be Christmas take down. We’ve never left our tree up this long but I’m ready for it to be gone.

We got the Christmas stuff outside down Saturday, since it was almost 60 degrees.  But I did not get the inside de-Christmased.  I'm hoping this week, each night I can do a little bit, and be done with it.  Although the cleaning people are coming tomorrow, it would be nice to have it done before they get there...I just don't see it all happening tonight.

Feel better slenle, mwhip, and tgrimes.

Currently at work. I stayed up too late, too, and regretting it. My day yesterday was not as productive as I would have liked. We had one of my husbands interns come to get some of the baby stuff and they stayed for a while, so I stopped working on stuff and felt like I had to “entertain”. That pushed dinner and everything else back, so I have to get caught up tonight. I hope I don’t get sucked into the championship game and actually get stuff done.

Don't beat yourself up. Evie and Theo are currently living on yogurt, pretzels and craisins. My formerly pickly 6 y/o however, tried tacos with jalapenos the other night. It does get better!

Not minimizing actual food struggles of course, but I think some of it is just the age too.

This - B used to eat everything and recently has started being a struggle at meal time.  And I never know what will set him off.  MH made meatloaf (which used to be a # 1 favorite).  The first day he literally had 1 bite, turned his nose up and asked for a pouch.  We gave him leftovers for lunch yesterday and he at the whole plate and asked for more.  He's confusing.

Well so much for a relaxing morning at home; DH is flying 3 afternoons this week so I decided to capitalize and get some errands done without kids in tow. I dropped a load off at the kids' consignment store and then stopped at Pottery Barn to make an exchange. Now I'm home having lunch before I head out for pick-up at 1.

I texted MIL a question about SIL's shower gift and mentioned we're trying to curtail traveling this spring so DH can make headway with the flying stuff (why I'm not attending the shower) and of course we'll need to plan a visit to see the baby once it's born. So then MIL launches in about how they want us to come visit in April, yada yada. Did you miss everything I just said?? How about you guys come to us? They haven't visited since June, and we were just there for Thanksgiving. WHY DO I HAVE TO DO ALL THE TRAVELING? I know she is trying to get us down there for Easter and the answer is no. / rant over

Seriously. For some reason they seem to think their lives/schedules are so much more crazy than ours. They both still work but have the means to drive or fly, etc. It boggles my mind.

Y'all know I basically want to live in a compound with my family, but unless they come here we won't see them until May (family reunion on my dad's side) b/c we were gone a ton this fall and DH legit needs to be here to fly, so this isn't even a 'mine' vs. 'his' thing, if that makes sense.

Oh and I forgot to comment yesterday, I think it is ridiculous that politics forces the government to shut down and leave people high and dry without pay. And don’t get me started on that orange baboon saying he knows how those people must feel 😡. I’m so sorry for all those having to undergo real live consequences due to this.

Eta oh and I’m also mad that there are people that see this as an opportunity to destroy the beyond beautiful national parks the USA has. People suck.

Hi! H had school this morning and I put away laundry while S had a Disney music dance party in the living room. Both girls are eating lunch right now and then I’m going to make them both take a nap. I’ve been pretty crabby this morning so I need the break. I got a message back from the doctor this morning and he’s going to send over a referral to ENT for H. Now I just have to wait for a call to schedule.

My BFFs H is like this and he definitely says shit to get a rise out of me. I don't cut him out, b/c I love her, and she's B's godmother. But it's hard. And hard for me to reconcile how she can be with someone who acts/thinks that way.

He, at least, curbs most of the talk in front of my kids.

It's not.  He bought it the last time my SIL was pregnant before she miscarried.  He showed it to me online and it comes in array of camouflage colors/patterns.

I may have to flat out tell him if he can't stop making comments like this around my kids, I won't bring my kids around him anymore.  I hate to do that to my in laws since we see them every Sunday but I'm not sure how else to handle this.

I’ve had to kick FIL out of my house for being OTT with racist/sexist/victim blaming BS, but it’s a trickier situation when you’re at someone’s house.

People like this definitely love to needle you, so as much as I would say ignoring it might work, I wouldn’t do that when kids are around.

I would flat out tell him, “that kind of talk is inappropriate, please don’t continue.” Just very matter of fact. If he escalated or continues, yes, I would tell the kids we’re leaving. And make it clear “What BIL just said is unkind and it’s time for us to go.” Then the onus is on him to STFU or your IL’s to tell him to cut the shit while visiting their house.

Letting the comments slide is definitely not an option because then you’ve just shown M and H gay people, immigrants, etc. don’t matter and are excluded from the “use kind words, treat everyone kindly” message we’re all working so hard at getting across.
