We finally got into a room at 8 last night. Then had to get evaluated by the floor drs and get vitals checked and then another floor dr came in... it was 9:30 before S went to sleep. We were not lucky enough to get a room in the new wing. So we have a roommate and she woke up at 1:30 crying that her head hurts (she just had brain surgery). Then at 3:45 when they came in to do vitals, S woke up and has been awake since. But I just got word that the MRI is scheduled for 7:30! So hopefully that stays on track. And it’s supposed to take about 3 hours so I may be able to catch a nap!

That all sounds rough lfig. I couldn't imagine having a roommate in that situation also- yours or the girl recovering from brain surgery.

Well I just got word that the 7:30 MRI is a false alarm. Boo. The scheduler got confused and only scheduled the 1 hour MRI and she needs a 3 hour slot. So they are trying to fit her in somewhere.

Morning!
Another grey, chilly day here. B has school so hopefully I can keep my purging momentum going.
I’m in the midst of an email chain trying to coordinate a girls’ weekend with my three close friends from college—it’s looking like it’s going to be Aug/Sept so plenty of time, but one is an *extreme* planner so I feel like I’m already behind schedule in her eyes 😳

TW- Pet loss- long
Today is Max's last full day. He cuddled with me last night for the first time in a couple of weeks. I am leaving early today to have some alone time with him this afternoon. I know it all sounds super dramatic but this cat literally changed the course of my life. Before him I had lost the interest I had in animals when I was a kid. We adopted him because we wanted a dog and our apartment wouldn't allow it. We went to see another cat at the foster home Max was being held in quarantine do to a wound of unknown origin. He went right to Pete and threw his arms around his neck and purred constantly. He was 9yo when we adopted him and had lived quite the life. Through my animal contacts I found out he was born on the streets but always friendly to humans even though he was part of a feral cat community. He was later taken in by the rescue we adopted him from and was adopted out to an old lady with another cat. He was an outdoor cat and came home one day with his stomach ripped open and covered in blood. The owner called the rescue and she surrendered him back because she couldn't afford the care. He was in ICU for a month and every entry from the nurses talks about how great he was. Xrays showed he likely was hit by a car at some point as well and had fractured teeth and a broken pelvis that healed crooked. He had been through a lot but was still such a great cat. We were able to get him 2 months later after his quarantine ended. It was instant love between us. I had no idea about homeless pets and couldn't bear the thought of other pets like Max being without a home. Because of him, I was able to help hundreds of other pets because I felt a call to duty.
He has helped me through some extremely tough times and has always comes running to comfort when I am crying or sick. He does this with C too, but not Pete because P is someone that likes to be left alone. He just knows us and what we need. It will be a huge hole in our family for a while.
We are going to tell C tonight. I imagine he will be a wreck but we didn't want to tell him too early. My parents are picking him up at 11 tomorrow so he will have time tonight and tomorrow to say good bye.
Sorry for the tl;dr post. I just needed to get that out to process.

wedding I’m so sorry. Pets have a way of doing things to us/for us that we never would have imagined. You were there for him when he needed you and he was there for you when you needed him. Much love to you. 💜

wedding So sorry to hear about Max. It's so hard to lose them. You gave him a great life, just like he gave you. It will be hard for awhile...there are still times I could cry about losing Luna, they just become such a part of your lives and family. I'm so sorry, many hugs to you all.

lfig Your night sounds terrible. All the hospitals here have gone to single patient rooms, which I always assumed was due to HIPPA, so it seems weird they would build new hospitals that were for more than one patient rooms. Especially for kids. I hope you get in for the MRI quickly and get some answers.

We ended up going out to dinner last night with our neighbor. When I got home, H said he wasn't feeling good, I wasn't feeling good, so I knew it wasn't just my diet changes. I took some Mucinex and went to bed at 9. I feel like I'm in a fog this morning, but made it to work, hoping the medicine gets out soon.
Evie is staying with FIL and SMIL tonight. We don't have any plans. I can't decide if we should try to go out to dinner and do something or just lay low. I wanted to see The Mule, but two people I know who have seen it, said it wasn't that great, so I hate to waste the money.

But the old wing where we are is not. And I actually commented to a nurse yesterday and said I didn’t understand how with HIPPA a shared room is still a thing.

mwhip I wanted to see The Mule also but my parents said it was weak—a shame because I like Clint Eastwood. But when I’m spending what they charge for a movie and snacks nowadays I want it to be at least decent, lol. We saw Green Book recently and I would recommend that. On Sunday the sitter is coming and we’re going to see Instant Family—I think it also got so-so reviews but we’re seeing it on base so it’s practically free.

My mom and MIL saw The Mule and both said there were a lot of parts in it that didn't make sense. So yes, for $12 a person, or whatever a movie costs, I want to leave the theater not questioning how something happened! I'll look up those other movies and see if they're something that would interest both H and I. The last movie we saw in the theater was the last Hunger Games...so we don't go that often.

Shift change and we got one of my favorite nurses for the day shift! And she remembers us! Lol. I always remember them, but they seldom remember us (not that I expect them too, they see a lot of kids!).

I'm always like, "You were one of my son's nurses/doctors!!!" They usually give me a blank stare until they see my last name since my last name is.... kinda memorable.

YES! it is super awkward when I go into a pts room and talk to them about my studies while someone is in the next bed. But you know, they can pull the curtain around and all
