The only thing I'm not meh about Gillibrand is when people try to blame her for the Franken shit. Then I get really pissed and will defend her to the death. We're so very good at eating our own. But yeah. The woman calling out the sexual harasser is definitely the problem. Oy.

I feel like I need to clarify re: Kirsten bc I was a big, vocal fan of Al Franken prior to the revelations about his misconduct. I have no objections to her running. I would enthusiastically support her for the nomination, based on what I know of her (she's going to get hit hard from the left on Wall Street, but I don't die on that hill). I think it was quite brave of her to be the first to rebuke a member of her own party. I'm "meh" bc I see several other potential candidates who I think would make better presidents in this crowded field.

So conveniently an ad for Gillibrand showed on my FB feed asking to raise 15k in grassroots $$ by midnight 97% of the comments are about stabbing Franken in the back.
I’m on dcs bench with I think there are better candidates so I’m meh but the eating of our own on there is something especially since most of the commentators are women.

Looks like Kirsten missed the Deripaska vote to announce. That seems like an odd choice right?

I really like Senator Gillibrand. She was my rep back when she was in the House, though I had officially given up my NY residency by the time she became senator. She’s smart, fierce, and hard working and I love her pro-woman stances. I get the impression that she is always trying to learn and do better for her constituents. I appreciate her 180 on gun control (which I do believe to be sincere).
I think she’s going to face huge backlash from the bros of the Democratic Party. She represents NY, so she obviously has ties to Wall Street, and she was outspoken about Franken. Those things do not bother me, but they get some folks really riled up.

I'm still so fucking angry at Franken. I feel like he was eyeing a run at the WH in 2020 and I think he could have been effective. Then it turns out he is a sexist ass.

I'm really firmly on team Klobuchar in 2020. The more I read about her, the more I like her. She appeals to my moderate sensibilities. Really hoping she announces soon.

I owe Senator Gillibrand an apology; The WaPo story I read on the vote said that she was absent, but I later heard that Bernie was absent. I checked the roll call at Senate dot Gov and it appears Gillibrand voted to keep the sanctions.
I got bad Intel, and I rescind my earlier skeptical head tilt

TTThis is smart. Not just for the reasons laid out in the article, but she's likely to point to her record on criminal justice reform and demanding equal protection under the law. Baltimore hhas had very public problems with racially charged police brutality. It's the kind of community Senator Harris is trying to stand up for.

I talked with H about it and if there's any kind of part time position where I can go up to Baltimore once or twice a week and telecommute the rest for the Harris campaign, I'm going to apply. I'm not remotely qualified to do anything for her but I'm going to try.

Howard Schultz needs to NOT run.
Haven’t we learned a damn thing?????
CEOs current or former with zero political experience should not even be in a conversation about running for president.

Gavel I whole heartedly agree. I don’t need the whole Senator ++ experience level but I need some government experience. Or at least a basic understanding of how laws are made. I realize that’s a really low bar but it’s where I’m at. Maybe every candidate should have to take and pass the citizenship test. I don’t know I’m just incredibly frustrated atm

Howard Schultz needs to NOT run. Haven’t we learned a damn thing????? CEOs current or former with zero political experience should not even be in a conversation about running for president. Gavel I actually have an unorthodox idea for how Tom Steyer or Michael Bloomberg could help more than running. Fund a primary challenger. Start a PAC for a Republican spoiler to fracture the GOP vote, which puts Trump at a disadvantage. All the time and money he spends fighting a Republican is time and money he's not spending fighting a Democrat.
