😬 You and I have different definitions of adorable. 😂 Oh, maybe he's no Baby Yoda, but I think the bear is cute!

Yeah, I want to clarify when I mention early childhood education I in no way mean ridiculous amounts of academics pushed onto 2-4 year olds, I mean organized and supervised learning through play type stuff. Yes. I think ECE can definitely be like this. I don’t really see the push to get kids reading before kindergarten around here. Maybe among the high-end private school crowd, but both of DS’s preschools (one public, the other private but affordable) were play-based and focused on very age appropriate academic skills like letters, numbers, and writing your own name. I really wish our school district’s public preschool program was universal - I’d love to send DD.

I’m pretty ambivalent about Bernie. I wasn’t thrilled about how he behaved in the 2016 primary, but I like him well enough as a senator. I wish he put out more solid plans. He comes off as an ideas guy to me, rather than someone who can get shit done on an executive level.
If I was voting based entirely on ideology, I’d probably vote for Liz. She’s got the progressive chops, plus I appreciate her plans. I know people have ragged on her M4A financial plan, but I appreciate the fact that she actually ran numbers and came up with a reasonable transitionary plan. Her campaign did major legwork there that will be very useful to shape the party’s platform when we go to convention. I also really like her wealth tax because I do think that the concentration of wealth in the (offshore) bank accounts of the 1% is really screwing with our economy and contributing to the decline of public institutions. I feel much the same way about Castro - I agree with so many of his proposed policies.
Realistically, I think it may come down to a choice between Bernie and Biden by the time I get to vote in the primary. If that is the case, I will likely vote for Joe. He’s farther away from my personal ideology, but I think he is better at leadership through coalition building. Working relationships, especially between different factions of the Democratic Party and independent moderates, are going to be key in getting things done after all of the damage Trump has done to our trust in government and public institutions. I think Kamala would have been great at this too (better than Joe). I worry that both Liz and Bernie will struggle with this by focusing on pushing through the progressive agenda to the detriment of healing the nation and building a stronger, more inclusive Democratic Party.
I’m pretty pragmatic in my voting. If I was in an early primary state, I’d vote more purely on my progressive ideology, but since I’m in a super-Tuesday state, I’ll likely vote for the candidate out of the top 2-3 who I most want to win the nomination.

They ask you spend time every night reading to, being read to, or independently reading. That and the occasional end of year diorama/student taught lesson is it, IF your child is successful in class. obviously if more attention is necessary then they address that with the parent/student and a plan is worked out.
Its a 180 from when my oldest was in elementary and the fights were so bad I had it written in his IEP that ALL schoolwork was to be completed AT school.
I LOVE IT!

Ours is 20 minutes of reading and 1-3 pages of math homework. Usually he finishes the math at school or in after care but when he doesn’t it’s a thing. And I just find the whole thing so useless. Reading is appropriate imo.

When my oldest was 3 we went to a church MMO program. 3 hours per day, 4 days per week. I was expecting something really informal, not very academic. GA does not have 3K. The school had special music, science, and art curricula so maybe that should have tipped me off that this would be different. Anyways, he had weekly homework, which floored me. I mean, it was a one letter per week project drawing pictures and cutting out magazine images of things that started with the letter. But at 3yo I was not expecting anything.

Damn. If that wasn’t $70 I would get it for my uncle for Christmas I can't vouch for quality now, but I got a Vermont Bear maybe 20 years ago (expensive then too). That was a beautifully made bear.

My kindergartener has sight words she's supposed to go over, but that's it for homework here. She had some books to "read" at the beginning of the year, but hasn't been any of those for the past couple of weeks.

I find the bear a little funky with both the comb over and the ears, but I love a person who has a sense of humor about him/herself and if Bernie authorized the crazy hair bear then I find it endearing.
I have definitely softened toward him since the "throw your arms up" exchange with Hickensteve. I think I'm just a big softie for people with a good sense of humor.

My pre-K'ers weekly homework is a worksheet where they get a letter of the week. They think up a word that starts with that letter, draw it, the parent writes the word and then they copy it. And that's it.

If we’re doing anecdotes, my DD’s elementary school also just does reading at home for homework.

Good grief CA-25 (hill’s former district) is going to be a messy race, but what is Bernie thinking endorsing this guy?

So he was 43 when he ranked women and 46 when he dismissed Harvard’s ranking. I’m NOT saying it’s excusable at any age- it’s not. But this is something I would be less surprised to hear about 20yr old frat guys. Not 40-something grown ass men. I hope this is new information and Bernie denounces him in light of these new revelations. Just because we have a sexual predator in the WH doesn’t mean it’s cool now. We rise above. Not sink to their level. Ugh.

Bernie's retracted his support: I just...what is going on in his campaign? He’s fired at least two people right after hiring them once their tweets were dug up and now this. Does his staff not have the internet?

I'm glad endorsements were rescinded, but it doesn't sound at all like he did it voluntarily or because he actually felt Cenk said/ did anything wrong.
This is the heart of my problem with Bernie. He's either incredibly tone-deaf or he really, truly does not get it or care. I see the same thing with Biden. I don't know if it's an age/male/white thing or not, but it's troubling.
