Ok, so how do I get Castro elected? Does he have a catchy fan base name? I’m lost. This is where I am. How TF can we amplify Julian in her stead? What does he need to qualfy for the next debate? Obviously more money, but what are the other requirements? I haven't been following them that well.

I did not get the indication that greykitty was in any way gloating over Kamala dropping out. We always discuss the whys when this happens. It stings more for those who have supported and campaigned for Harris, but I don’t feel it’s fair to be angry at greykitty. This board (myself included) has been mostly all in on Kamala. Those who aren’t are just coming at this differently. then I apologize to greykitty for jumping on her. I never seem to quite be able to read her tone. It felt like someone said in the randoms thread, "I interviewed for a job I really, really wanted and had my heart set on it and I didn't get it and some other underqualified man got it instead" and someone comes in and starts critiquing my resume.

Thanks jaygee for guiding me in the right place to cry my Kamala tears. I love Julian Castro. MH has been giving him money and went to hear him speak at an event recently. He is the real deal.

Is this a closed board open to people of only one mindset? I thought it was a discussion board on politics. I'd seen speculation on this board on why Harris dropped out and added another observation. Why is that objectionable? I apparently just can not read you bc your post felt very told-ya-so in a thread where people are literally crying over something that's personal to them. We know you don't like Kamala. Of course you can speak freely. But jumping in to a thread at the moment people have said they are actually crying and spewing some of the same nasty media coverage that helped bring us here is hurtful. To me. I did not read her comment like that at all. I am not a big kamala supporter anymore either truth be told, which I am pretty sure you guys know. But I don't think greykitty was being insensitive. This is what we do, discuss the why's and how's and what nots when this stuff happens. It also helps that I know the article she was referring to and she was simply reiterating what she read in my eyes. Anyhoo emotions are strong. I am sorry. I know so many of you loved her. All I can say is I do feel she has a bright future, and I am rooting for her for sure.

oh and I did nooooottt mean to imply that she was gloating at all. I only meant that the timing of such a blunt autopsy seemed insensitive in light of the posts preceding it.

Hills running again would be a monumental mistake, and a waste of time/money. I hope she knows better.

Why is that objectionable? I’m going to agree with greykitty on this one. She was stating what she read. I get there are charged feelings and some history but I don’t think we all need to tiptoe around having a conversation about it.

Amy Siskind (so grain of salt) stated Bloomberg news leaked this resignation right before Mike announced.
I'll sit on your anger at media, steyer & Bloomberg bench
I have read from a number of sources (non extremely 100%) that Bloomberg’s campaign was targeting hers right from the jump. Which is you know, odd, since his campaign was supposed to be all about Warren and her wealth tax. 🤔 It actually makes sense strategically. If he can get the lower polling strong candidates out of the way, then he can focus on frontrunners.
If he had taken Warren out first, Harris might have benefited from those supporters who aren't all in for Bernie and want a more liberal leaning person/woman.
So basically he went for low hanging fruit first. And I have many many words in my head about this.

I am a big dummy and I would vote for her over anyone else even now and what I know from the results of 2016 because there is literally no one more qualified. But I say this knowing her running is not a good idea. At.All. At all.

everyone is entitled to their opinions. I shared mine. I apologized to greykitty and I will do it again. I'm sorry for jumping on you greykitty. Not that it's an excuse but I have been horribly sick and not sleeping for going on a week. I can't eat. I can't breathe. This news was a brutal gut punch that I did not need on top of other disappointing news today, and unfortunately the camel's back broke. I'm going to go watch Christmas movies now.

My heart hurts.
I’m going to have to tell my 8yo. We were big fans and watched videos she posted together.
Goddammit. It’s infuriating that Dems boast about of the diversity of our party and primary field (see posts after 2018 elections).....and then end up with a debate stage full of white people.
Kamala could have won it all. The election. Hearts of Americans. And I think that she has the personality, strength, smarts and drive to start to repair the damage done by Trump.
And she’s out. This blows. I don’t think I’ve been this sad about politics since 2016. Even Beto losing TX didn’t shake me like this did.

Does anyone else think there is a very strong possibility she will be tapped as a VP or an AG?
Because I really think she will be.

I haven't been following them that well. There are polling requirements as well. They have to have at least 2% in 3 national polls (I think), but only certain polls are the qualifiers. I'm hoping enough of her supporters will shift to Castro to at least get him on the December stage. A problem though is that there is not that much time between now and the debate for those polls to take place (but I know it's not impossible because I had an ad on FB today telling me that Yang could still make the debate because he raised enough funds, but he doesn't have the polling yet). ETA here is a link that explains it better because I forgot about the early state part. www.cnn.com/2019/10/25/politics/dnc-december-debate-thresholds/index.html

I have no opposition to what greykitty said. I just feel it could have maybe waited a couple of hours, when the worst of the shock had passed. I know that's what we do here, analyzing events. This is raw and painful at the moment.

This is a thing. Hear me out. With the state of politics these days you have three flavors:
1) billionaires who don’t have to ask for money (T, Bloomberg, Steyer)
2) candidates who stockpile money for themselves, say they are middle class and don’t take corporate money (Warren, Biden, Bernie)
3) everyone else who now has a pickle - they can’t take corporate money or they get attacked by group 2. They can’t share with other Dems or they don’t have the stockpile of group 2. They have to start early burning through lots of resources because at any moment group 1 can swoop in and outspend them (Bloomberg spent more in 2 weeks than Kamala raised in 11 months). So they have to fundraiser from lower and middle class.
So, basically “taking the money out of politics” means being stuck with groups 1 or 2 and/or taking money from those who have the least. What the fuck have we done here?

What the fuck have we done here? Yes. The polling thresholds for the debates seemed like a good idea but lost sight of, especially in such a crowded field, the power of name recognition. And that's something that billionaires already have (Bloomberg) or can easily buy ( Trump Steyer). And the No-Super-PAC-money pledge was a great idea on its face, but it is again giving an advantage to those who are self-funding
