Happy New Year’s Eve everyone! It’s about 3.5 hours short of midnight over here. Absolutely no way DH and I are going to make it to midnight. Sleep is too precious, and we’re already in bed. I have a Japanese sheet mask on, and he’s researching our Christmas vacation for next year (Hokkaido is weird and you have to book like a year in advance - everything fills up).
Today, we had a little NYE party at our place, and it was so much fun. 7 adults, 2 tweens, 1 toddler, and 1 baby. We ate Korean fried chicken, sticky rice, coleslaw, Japanese chocolate, movie theater popcorn, and had a brownie ice cream sundae bar. Oh - and champagne, wine, beer, and cocktails. Quite the mish mash of stuff, but it was all delicious and fun. We exchanged presents and played Mario Kart as well. A fun and easy day.
I’m ready to just chill with DH and the kids tomorrow and enjoy one last day off before reality sets in and I’m back to work on Weds.
Happy NYE O17! Hope you all have fun - and stay safe - tonight!

Happy NYE! Of course it is the only day this week that is absolutely freezing 😒 We usually go to a family friend’s house, their community league does sleigh rides and other fun stuff for kids from 5-7:30 at the park right close to their house. Then we eat appetizers before watching the fireworks at 8pm from their windows and then take our kids home to bed. It’s the best. Hopefully it’s not too cold for sleigh rides!!!!

My mom and I took DD2 with us to make some holiday returns this morning. I hate to sound ungrateful because all the extended family were very generous but we live in a small house and are looking to move within the next year or so and just don’t need all the stuff.
It’s super rainy here so this afternoon we’re taking the girls (again - for the 4th time) up to my mom’s school (another teacher in the family!) to get some energy out. They have scooters, a rock wall, and other fun things in their gym and the girls have slept GREAT after playing their each evening.

Happy NYE! I'm at work today. Was hoping we would close early but haven't received that email. So, probably not. I haven't caught up with everyone but i'm making my way. Sorry for the travel woes, cythe. Always gotta be something. I hope you guys have an alright time seeing family at least. Taitai, how cool to go skiing in JP! MH would love to do that. danvers, i returned a wallet and belt for MH this morning (from Santa) and that was the first thing i've ever had to return - gift wise. doodlemommy, sleigh rides sound fun! but no thanks to the cold. It's cold and rainy here today. i hope the rain lets up soon.

We did some returns at the mall this morning and then came home, we got some popcorn as a treat. Still trying to tidy up from last weeks craziness since I was working all week. No New Years plans here, I will be early to bed.

Sleigh rides were a hit with both kids! We went twice and then it was feeling chilly so we went to our friends’ house. The fireworks show was spectacular as always. Kids are in bed and we are heading there too. Happy new year O17!

Also, I randomly accidentally found out what my sister and BiL are going to name their baby girl today (they weren’t telling). They are naming her Norah. Which is a beautiful name...but the girls name I love and was hoping to use if our #3 would be a girl was Eleanor. Clearly can’t use that anymore so I’m a bit choked. I see my sister at minimum once a week so it would be super weird to have cousins with names that close I think. Luckily I have time to get over it and pick out something else, and who knows, maybe we’ll end up with another boy anyways

codex320 Skiing in Japan was a really fun - the slopes in Hokkaido are known for their powder and back-country/off-piste routes. It’s also a great place to learn, because it’s not too crowded and the snow is soft and not too heavy/wet/icey. I think, however, that if we lived in the states, we’d be staying in the USA or Canada for skiing. There are just sooooo many amazing places to ski in North America. No reason to go to Japan (unless you are doing it for culture, food, etc). DH is an avid skier/snowboarder, and he said Hokkaido was similar to Vail or Breckenridge in CO. Snow was slightly better in Japan(lots of fresh powder each day), but the trails were not as long as the ones in CO. Overall- he said it was a toss up between the two.

Happy New Year 017 🥳
DD2 was up for just a few minutes at midnight so I saw the New Year in ever so briefly.
Just hanging out and playing today I think - eating leftovers, napping, and enjoying the break. The girls are still getting super spoiled by all the attention but I love that they have this time with family too. DD2 loves my parents’ little dog and and has made it her BFF here.

Am I missing something? I love both those names and I would totally use it!

Maybe it also depends on how you say it? EleaNOR and NORah might become confusing? I might still try to convince DH if we can’t find anything else we like as much. We shall see

Would you use Norah as a nn? Imo (not you asked haha) but if it was reversed and she used Elenor and you used Norah then it would be a little odd, especially if they had planned or already used Norah as a nickname but the way it is... I'd use it anyway lol

doodlemommy (and for the US moms) it’s a service lots of companies now offer to their mom employees where they ship your milk overnight back to your home every day when you’re traveling for work. Pretty nice! But I’d rather have more time off.

I could do Ellie/Ella as a nickname if we do use it. This is all hypothetical at this point anyways so who knows!

Happy New Year! I was asleep by 10pm, DH has a man cold/flu. He’s legit sick but not that bad but refuses to take the drugs... I actually got a little mad since the whole pregnancy/ breastfeeding has totally limited the amount of prescription stuff I can take... why won’t he take the good stuff??!!?
We took the Christmas decorations down this morning. I’m so glad to have my house back, they were nice to look at but I don’t have a big house and they were taking up space.
I just dumped the kids off on DH so I could write my 2019 goals in my planner and chill in the blinds thread for a bit while I drink my baileys and coffee.

Today is DH’s birthday. So far we have worked out, I made eggs Benedict for brunch, played outside with the kids, had some sexy time during afternoon nap, and right now short ribs are in the instant pot and I’m about to start on the garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. He wants to watch Harry Potter and puzzle tonight with fancy beverages so that is what we will do!

Happy New Year!
PDQ
It doesn't feel like much of a holiday. DH is recovering from surgery, slowly, but is now having some withdrawal symptoms as he weans off the pain meds. Can't catch a flippin break. He is still very sore and has restrictions and can't help with much at all. I'm very much ready to get past this time. I feel like a jerk because obv he is hurting and the whole ordeal has royally sucked for him. I just.....wanna run away. Not really. But...ugh.

CoachTsWife so sorry about your H. What an awe FIL way to start the new year. I hope he gets better soon and I hope you’re able to get some time to yourself too. Full time care giving for your kids and H is hard.

DD is having a date day with my mom to a new museum today, she is so excited. So I am putting DS down for his nap and hoping to fit in a workout and shower before he is up. He and I are going to dust, do laundry, walk the dog and clean bathrooms. Thrilling stuff, poor boy 🤣. When he is older he can have his turn but for now he’s stuck with me

We have scheduled our first non-grandparent babysitter for Saturday morning. We are having some 1:1 time with DS1 and visiting the science museum and having lunch. I hope the toddler isn’t a terror for the girl.

So were anyone's kids up for the ball drop?
DS1 stayed up (he seriously has every year, even as a baby, made it to midnight) and he had a friend over to they were keeping each other entertained.
DS2 ate with us, we just had a couple friends over, and then started getting cranky around 7:30. That's his normal bedtime so we put him down and he was out like a light! Didn't even wake up with the couple older kids running around. We had an awesome night.

Happy new year O17 🍾🎆 CoachTsWife post surgery is hard. It’s easier said than done, deep breath, one day at a time. Hang tough, we’re here for you to vent. Overall whats the doctors prognosis on his recovery and healing? Big hugs. Sending you much strength and healing thoughts. 😘 cythe I sure hope you already have your luggage. How long are you away for? Have you looked into the airline comp policy? Some airlines will comp you for essentials caused by delayed luggage. doodlemommy excited for you about #3. Hoping it will happen for you as planned. It’s hard to know what the universe has planned for us. Taitai codex320 I have friends which ski the French and Swiss alps and they say CO skiing is still one of the best. We love Vail and beaver creek and steamboat is sweet too. I had a bad experience at Breck and Apres ski at breck seems good if you like to party after but we prefer a nice dinner and quiet cosy night resting our sore muscles.
