Hi! At work... spend an hour on a boring conference call and now I’m finishing up one project. I actually have a to do list for this afternoon.
You all know about my coworker who never wants to work? Well starting January, she’s only going to be working Thursdays (my day off) through April so she can help out at a tax office. So that means I’ll have to do her job, and then deal with trying to figure out what work she does on the one day I’m not here. I’m a bit annoyed but also have a feeling it might turn into her not working here at all...
But there are also some major changes happening in March that may force me to reevaluate my job and if it’s worth it to keep working. (Which I’m happy about since it would be the push to let me be sahm)

The cats are terrors and now that the ornaments are all out of reach they have decided to rip open presents. I am not amused. Luckily, my child doesn't seem to realize she can probably find out what she has under the tree if she just looks. Instead, she says we'll just open the ripped ones first on Christmas. I also slammed my finger in the car door this morning. I'm not even putting presents out until Christmas morning. And I bet the damn puppy tries to run off with them as we're opening.... Ouch that hurts! I slammed all 4 of my fingers in the sliding door of a van once.

The driver I hate is getting a raise. Why? Because he cried actual tears asking my dad for one... maybe I should try that..

slenle I'm sorry for the added work load this spring, but I hope everything works out the way you want it to in the long run! Will you have to add work days back to your schedule to cover for her?

I’m not sure. For the time being, I’ll keep my 4 days. If she quits or gets fired, Im not sure what would happen on Thursdays but my boss knows how much I value the part time schedule so he’d probably be flexible. It’s sort of a non negotiable for me at this point.

Last night Madison asked me if Santa was real (of course I said yes). She said a lot of kids at school say he's not. I said some people believe and some don't, but I believe in Santa in my heart. She replied, "Oh, like how some kids don't believe in God?" Um....yes, the exact same. Sorta. Kinda. But then she also said something else the kids said (which I can't remember now) but was clearly false. So I told her, "Well you know that's not true so do you want to believe kids who think that?" Madison: *scoffs* No.

snoopmommymom Happy Birthday! I managed to get my wrapping for all the kids done this morning but I realized I was missing something for DD that I swore I bought on Amazon but it’s not showing in my orders. DH found one at Michaels like 10 miles away that I will pick up later. T was ok and back at school today. I still haven’t heard back from Urgent Care, they are suppose to be making my appointment to take care of the cyst. They said they would call this morning but it’s almost 2:30 now.

Madison: *scoffs* No. Nice save, Mom! The old..."If every other kid was jumping off a cliff, would you jump, too?" argument. My mother successfully used that one on us a time or two (hundred). Bradley was asking the other day about Santa...one came in when we were at the commissary, one visited their preschool, we saw one up in Williamsburg, etc. He was clearly putting 2+2 together that this is not all the same guy. I said that Santa has helpers and just tried to quickly distract him. Today he asked about how Santa gets down the chimney since it has a roof (the chimney cap) on it, lol. Magic! His teachers were nice enough to post a list outside the classroom of the things the children asked Santa for on his school visit. I like their style eta: Maybe this is a UO but I kind of think there are too many Santa's around. It makes it seem more mysterious and 'possible' if you only see him occasionally.

TW
My friend’s 2 year old was diagnosed with leukemia on Thursday. She has had a rough few years, her son was born at 24 weeks and then she lost her mom to cancer, and now this. He started chemo yesterday and they will have a minimum stay of 30 days in the hospital. I have been texting with her. I want to make a mommy care package for her. I’m thinking like some comfy pants, a cozy sweatshirt, magazines, snacks, some lip balm and scented lotions, maybe a journal to write down questions for the doctors and stuff. Any other ideas? I have told her that I would be happy to bring stuff back and forth to the hospital, do her laundry, and clean her house. I’d cook but I don’t really think she’s going to leave the hospital often. This is her only child and both she and her H have taken leave from their jobs.

That's devastating kim22. I think you've got it covered with some nice things I'm sure she'll appreciate. Especially with helping her out at home with chores. I'm glad she has a good friend like you.

flamingo, I agree about too many Santas. Because of the abundance of Santas in our area, I wish the really fake ones would give it a rest. I mean, it's sweet they do it and all, but the guy who's clearly middle-aged, not old, and has a super fake beard isn't really helping sell the illusion. That's how one looked at this really sad and pathetic bazaar that I went to this weekend that was just oozing desperation.

This is her only child and both she and her H have taken leave from their jobs. Oh, what heartbreaking news, esp. at this time of year. That's great that she and her H can both take leave. Your care package sounds great. I love the idea of the journal or notepad to write down instructions, ?s, etc. I follow a mom-blogger (a friend of a friend, actually) whose youngest was recently diagnosed with a terminal illness and they've been in the hospital a lot. I know she appreciated people bringing her food/drinks to the hospital for her, and treats for her child (also 2). Balloons, little toys, and other things to distract/occupy her have been a big help. So maybe add something for the little guy? eta: if she's going to be staying there awhile, maybe some toiletry-type items (I was thinking like, dry shampoo? make-up remover/face wipes? Just stuff to make freshening up daily a bit easier)

inthekitty Maybe it was you, I can't remember now, who posted a pic on FB or Instagram lately of their kid with the neighborhood Santa. The guy seriously looked about 25. Definitely no more than 30 or so. It was kind of ridiculous looking.

When jack got bit my friend bought him this activity sticker book and it was great for the hospital. More interactive than regular book but no crayons/markers to worry about. kim22 how devastating... I was going to say the same thing as flamingo make-up wipes, dry shampoo etc. Maybe some picture books to read with her son?
