hangry, correct, the sister doesn't have kids. And I really hope my friend isn't put off by kids since she's currently pregnant with one! But for real, she does loves kids. I totally get saying no to older kids, but babies don't require any extra effort from the host. I did think about just showing up with him anyway, but I feel weird about it. I'm pretty positive the only person who would have a problem with this is the sister. All the other guests wouldn't even think twice. I wouldn't.

tgrimes that hot corn dip recipe of yours is the main photo on the Tuesday thread on Tapa; it keeps taunting me so I may break down and make it this weekend.

I am team it's up to the guest of honor if babies are allowed. It stinks and I couldn't imagine not having babies at my shower if they were around but it's not for everyone. Even soon to be parents may like a grown up shin dig. It sucks when you don't have another option and have to miss it though.

jubilantsquirrel, could they be worried of DS2 taking a spotlight off the mom to be? I don't agree but I'm curious about why no to a baby. goldenlove, I never considered venue as a reason to be honest! I'm getting annoyed with SIL2 and MIL on SIL2's baby shower! Maybe I shouldn't have gone to all those baby showers in Seattle because either those were extravagant or these people are cheap! I'm feeling like a snob. Fftc? ETA: this party is getting 66 people invited. The four hostesses are now only doing late snacks? Though this is the first I'm hearing of it is today!?! MIL is buying everything it seems. Re: potty training, everyone I knew who potty trained early (probably due to daycare) had really bad regressions. Just my observation. I'm expecting L will be nightmare as I was! I loved my diapers. I went through 4 training seats due to destroying them!

Lol. Nope. She's still in it ::runs and hides:: Hey, whatever works! It's weird, I asked the pediatrician about it at both the 4 and 6 month appointments and she was totally breezy about it. I mean, D hates being on her tummy and never rolls herself over in her sleep so I guess that's good? Once I'm ready to really commit to sleep training I think we'll lose it; just rip the band-aid off all at once, ya know? That won't be til after the week of the Fourth though since we're going away that week.

I successfully fed the children and put them to bed by myself without anyone crying. H is still golfing or avoiding bedtime. I was going to celebrate with a beer but the only beer we have is Yuengling. H bought a case when he drove back from NJ and he only has two left. I feel bad drinking one.

@chesie6, I don't think. I actually got a text this evening from the mom to be that said I was fine to bring DS1. I didnt reach out to her, so I don't know if the sister asked her or if my other friend reached out to her. Either way, I'm going to the shower and taking my baby with me!

dashook, can you start with one arm out? I sucked at swaddling but L is still in the Halo, he just graduated to both arms out.

Also @chesie6, 66 people is a lot of mouths to feed. What time is the shower? If it's in between normal meal times then I think snacks and a treat of some sort is fine. If it's during lunch or dinner time, then I would expect more food options.
The worst shower I ever went to had over 75 people there. It was co-ed and it took the parents to be 2 hours to open presents. It was outside at a park in August and the host didn't think ahead to reserve a covered space, so we were all just standing around in the blazing sun for hours.

I left out the worst part. So the host didn't reserve the covered space (there's a word for this but I can't think of it) because she assumed it was first come first serve. About 30 minutes into the shower the people who did reserve that space showed up. The host got very combative when they requested that we relocate and basically refused to move the party. The other people ended up calling the cops who had to come and tell the host that we couldn't use the space if we didn't reserve it. The host moved us to the grass right next to the covered space and then very loudly bitched about "those assholes" for the remainder of the shower, which was like 3 hours because ohmyfuckinggod so many presents.

The problem we have is that she has wild octopus arms and will just beat herself about the head if either or both arms are free. I could maybe try it during some naps, but I think it's going to come down to sleep training with her just totally unswaddled and learning to self-soothe.

jubilantsquirrel that sounds awful but I would be lying if I said I would hate to be a guest at that shower! It makes a good story that's for sure! How many people can say that they attended a baby shower where the cops were called? Also, the people who reserved the covered space only had like 5 people in their party and there were 10-12 tables. Not at all saying that they should have given that space up to us, but it just added to the awkwardness.

Pavilion! The covered space is a pavilion. So glad I cleared that up before bedtime.

Cheshie6 What's considered early to you? I always thought 2 was early. But from what I saw were parents who HAD to push for right after turning 2 for "specialty" daycare had the regressions at 3-4. Whereas the families that kind of did it at the child's pace or just didn't have that pressure seemed to have less accidents and other issues. My pool of observation is less than 10... like 8-9 families. The motivation to do it was different and really high stress. Like if my kid isn't in this daycare with this teacher, they won't get into the right elementary school class, then Ivy League is out the window!?! Kind of pressure.

DS is 3.5 and isn't potty trained. It's happening in the next few weekends once this pack of diapers is out. His friends are now mostly PT, but life's just been too busy to bite the bullet. He's ready though, so I'm hoping it's easy.

We (I) potty trained C when he was 2.5. He was ready so it took 3 days and he was 100% good. We tried a few times prior (he wasnt ready) and it was a nightmare.

I've heard it's best to follow their lead when it comes to potty training or else they may regress. I'm in no rush ATM. Besides, being out and about in diapers seems much easier than worrying about them having an accident in public or always having to go to the bathroom etc.

Not at all Cheshie6 and I'll agree with you. Really, it all depends on the child. If they are not ready and you PT early, it may take forever and may be lots of accidents. If they are ready, it should be a quick transition. The age can be different for different kids, just like crawling, talking and walking. I do remember seeing an infographic once about signs for PT readiness. Maybe I'll see if I can find it. Some people prefer to do it early and be partially PT'd and deal with the accidents but have the other benefits. And that's ok for them! It's also important to remember that generally speaking, girls will be ready before boys.

I also feel like my kid needs to be out of a crib when we want to potty train, right? I feel like he should be able to get up and go to the bathroom or get me MOTN when he has to go. No?

I actually have a friend who did this and regretted it. He still called to have her help go potty MOTN, but he would fight staying in bed at bedtime. That was when he actually woke up most of the time he slept through the night without peeing. I am not night training, and DD is still in a crib although that could change soon for necessities sake unfortunately :/.

I am not really ready but she seems like she is so here we sit! Day two, she isn't doing too bad but I am not doing the 3 day method or anything *that* intense.
