What is 017 up to this week? Anyone got their presents all completely bought and wrapped? Any fun holiday traditions you’re doing or starting with your little 017 babies?

We do a small little gifts for the girls each Sunday before Christmas - a carryover from my family traditions. 1st Sunday was Christmas jammies and then yesterday we got busy so we gave them their gift tonight after dinner tonight - ornaments for the tree - Thomas train for DD1 and a a fisher price toy ornament for DD2. Nothing big or crazy - just the fun of unwrapping something and whatnot.
Otherwise normal Monday here. DD2 was in bed by 6 so DD1 and I are snuggling up for How The grinch Stole Christmas before we go read and put her to bed. She loves the original cartoon version.

Today at pickup DS2’s teacher told me 2 kids got sent home with confirmed HFM today and it’ll probably cycle through the whole class. So I’m annoyed and hoping this doesn’t pop up over actual Christmas. Last year we stayed home with DS1 having impetigo. Hoping diseases are not our new tradition.

danvers I love that tradition! I bet your girls will look forward to that every year. When I was a kid we only did one gift on Xmas eve - usually the one from my grandparents. I need to think of something for the boys.

Gifts are purchased except for a couple of gift cards. Mostly everything is wrapped as well, just a couple things that came after I did my big wrapping night are left to do. Christmas cards are all mailed out/delivered. Baking is mostly done. I just need to decide what to put together for the couple neighbours I bring treats to and that’s it!

Took the kids to see Santa today! DD was so excited, DS screamed as expected. We went to Cabela’s this year instead of the mall and it was awesome. We got a free 4x6 photo (well 2 actually, one with both kids, one with just DD), and the kids each got a stuffed animal and DD got a candy cane. And there was a craft area too, DD got to make a little foam gingerbread house ornament thing and it turned out super cute

Looking forward to my days off. I have to figure out what I have left on my Christmas list and maybe I’ll make some cookies and drink some wine and do some wrapping one evening. Baby is teething badly but we switched to Motrin from Tylenol and it seems to be doing a better job.

I'd like to pass on holiday HFM, thank you. Maybe you'll get lucky and he will miss it all together

Happy Tuesday. Not much exciting going on over here. We definitely do not have all our Christmas gifts done and probably wont. I have hopes for next year to maybe have our Christmas poop in a group, as it were.
In slightly exciting news, I'm starting my own wedding and event planning business. Unless I chicken out, which is always a possibility. I'm a little apprehensive because i dont have thr experience I'd like to have but getting the experience is a dicey situation. My plan is to offer services at a severely discounted rate while I figure things out. To be clear, I do have a few coordinated events under my belt as well as a certification from a design school but no amount of classwork prepares you for the real thing.

cythe that is super exciting!! Congrats on making the decision. Do you have pictures of your past events? I have a friend who started something similar and it has taken off in the last year or so. Word of mouth is an incredible thing so good luck!! You’ll be great!

I cleaned my whole house top to bottom today including the chores DH usually does. This is a busy time of year for him at work and he hasn’t been getting home until 6/6:30 and I want him to spend time with the kids and helping with bedtime rather than vacuuming and doing garbages etc. It’s all done but now I’m exhausted and still need to figure out and make supper, put away 2 loads of laundry and I see my private student tonight from 7:15-8;15 😭

cythe good luck on you’re new adventure - i think you’ll do great! doodlemommy - be sure to take a second and put your feet up. I totally get the sentiment of H working a lot more and bearing most of the household chores. It’s exhausting but a sweet thought so he can spend time with the kids (plus bedtime help us always appreciated!)

The school servers were down at this afternoon so my poor students had to actually handwrite versus type their opinion essays about whether or not Santa’s outfit needs an update in 2018. Oh the agony of writing by hand! 😂 I resisted doing a “back in my day” lecture but a few did have to take it home as homework because their hand hurt from writing so much. 😑
Both girls took great naps at school and I had food ready for them the minute we walked in the door at 4 so our evening has been fairly nice. This might be the key to pleasant evenings.

I need to steam the floors so bad but there’s never a good time.

H just informed me that the "white elephant" gift exchange is now gag gifts. I'm trying desperately to convince him to give a Squatty Potty.

Guise! My oven is broken! WHY NOW!

Post by duskymonkey on Dec 12, 2018 0:19:02 GMT -6
Desperately looking for parts now. The heating element broke - the ceramic covering the element melted probably due to the high heat of the element which burned the element ( like the filament of a light bulb burnt ) and the oven appeared to be sparking and on fire. I just finished blind baking the base for a pineapple bar tart I am experimenting making cos I got no time to make individual little tartlets. Hoping to find the heating element fast so I can get to baking by the weekend! Luckily I saw it or it would've caused a serious electrical fire. I hate my oven and was waiting for it to fail but it would take more than just the heating element to fail to get it replaced. It should be an inexpensive and relatively easy fix if we can find the part asap!

Since it was my day off I took DD1 to the mall for a little outing with my mom. She was exhausting wanting to look at everything and she decided to start jumping in store window displays so we had to leave. She normally is pretty good but I think the whole Christmas thing plus having a ‘special’ day had her super amped up. She fell asleep in the car ride home and we got most of our Christmas cards done after she woke up. Overall a very productive day.

Both kids asleep before 7. This is unheard of. DS1 must have had a busy day at school. H is home but working to finish something due tomorrow so I’m here.
We have a church Christmas party this weekend and it’s Mexican themed. Everyone has signed up for the typical dips tamales etc. Is there any veggie type Mexican dish I could bring? So far I’m thinking of a corn and black bean salsa/salad or a chopped salad with some sort of lime vinaigrette. Open to other ideas.

August Blooms I hear ya - I so want to do some fun holiday type stuff now that DD1 is older and “gets it” more but then we deviate from her normal routine and she can become a hot mess curmudgeon I think corn-black bean salsa thing sounds good (and easy) duskymonkey glad getting the parts delivered wasn’t as dire as it started out to be And cythe I’m not saying we have a squatty potty here... but DD1 has a small stool in her bathroom and... and... it’s not super terrible to have it sometimes 😬😂😆

I took both girls grocery shopping tonight. I try not to but there was barely any good in the house because I’ve been trying to finish up what’s in the cupboards. They did really good but I basically let them snack for dinner so I could get things put away, cleaned up, prepped for tomorrow.
I have so much wrapping to do. My bedroom looks like an amazon box warehouse. I just need H home so I can go hide for awhile. Hopefully this weekend! 🎁

Hi there! Stranger checking in! We are still alive and doing well. Survived selling/buying houses and moving, also just got back from a trip to Disney! Doesn't quite feel like the holidays, we don't even have our tree yet.
Most gifts are bought, I think. I feel bad that DD1 gets a bunch of stuff and DD2 gets less but she really doesn't need anything! I need to go through my hidden boxes (yes- still hidden, nothing is wrapped) and make sure I have enough for her. Also need to do nephews' gifts as well as my mom. It definitely snuck up on me this year!
