Today at pickup DS2’s teacher told me 2 kids got sent home with confirmed HFM today and it’ll probably cycle through the whole class. So I’m annoyed and hoping this doesn’t pop up over actual Christmas. Last year we stayed home with DS1 having impetigo. Hoping diseases are not our new tradition. Nooooooo!!!

I'm done most of my gift shopping, some things are still in transit and nothing's wrapped but I feel like I'm in a good spot.

Non holiday related - DS2 has his 15 month check up this week - 23 lbs and 32 inches! He's about an inch taller and a pound heavier than DS1 was at the same age. 😂 he's definitely catching right up.

And cythe I’m not saying we have a squatty potty here... but DD1 has a small stool in her bathroom and... and... it’s not super terrible to have it sometimes 😬😂😆 That's what makes it so great imo! It's a gag gift because who gives poop related Christmas gifts but it's actually really helpful! I was pretty proud of my idea

curmudgeon FX the HFM didn't make it to your DS. The black bean corn salad sounds great! I have something similar I make which I love. What about a chile relleno casserole? doodlemommy you're so amazingly organized! I want to be you. I am now a few days behind on my planned baking. Bah! cythe , So exciting about your new venture and you'll be great at it. Already love what you did for E's birthday. parma986 Glad to see you back! and tell us more about your Disney trip? I am still waiting for a couple more things to arrive and still need to wrap and finish decorating the bird and tiny ornament branch. We got our tree last week so no need to borrow a tree this year lol! danvers love your tradition...I may steal that from you! we basically have activities every weekend since Thanksgiving so it has been hectic and that may be our tradition? Hubs and I were talking about getting a permit and hiking to the mountains to cut our own tree when the boys are much older.

Thank goodness for Amazon. The part has shipped and hope it will get delivered on Friday and that it will fit and work otherwise I'll start panicking and have to do some last minute shopping cos practically all my Christmas gifts for everyone are cookies and cakes. I was supposed to be done with baking this coming Saturday and packing them up starting Sunday and dropping them off all next week before we leave on Friday. Well...this has given me an opportunity to deep clean the oven which it desperately needed. This got me thinking about oven...years ago hubs and I were looking for a new replacement kitchen hood and also looked at ovens for future replacement. What ovens do you guys have or have used which you like and is reliable? Anyone with duel fuel oven range?

duskymonkey I hope the part arrives soon so you can get back to baking! parma986 Heeeyyyyyy! Welcome back! Great to see you around and hear all is well. I still need to shop for my nephews too. Eek! Gotta amazon something to the tonight. All is well over here. DS1’s school Christmas party is tomorrow, and the kids in his class made a list of what they want parents to bring for the party. Most popular was cornflakes...wuuut? Then goldfish crackers, ice cream, and Khao niao gai (chicken sticky rice). We will be bringing cornflakes to rock their little 3-4 year old worlds 😂🤣

I got called at lunch to pick up the baby (toddler?) because he was breaking out in HFM sores “all over”. So I drive an hour back home, go into his class, and his teacher tries to show me the spots and THERE IS NOT ONE DAMN BLEMISH ON THIS CHILD. So I took him home anyway because I’m not driving an hour back. And I’ll keep him home tomorrow bc I’m home anyway. But wtf.
I keep looking because I’m paranoid. He must have the disappearing HFM strain.

curmudgeon I hope 🤞 this is not HFM for you all. Our daycare teachers get over vigilant when stuff like that goes around and it’s annoying. I get that they want to stop that stuff from spreading but also with a lot of that stuff by the time it’s discovered, the kid has usually been contagious for awhile too. Taitai are cornflakes not common over there? H has eaten a bowl of cornflakes almost every morning for breakfast for the 6 years we’ve been married. Every.Single.Day. thechickencoop did they ask about your LOs speech at his 15 month appointment? DD2 has zero words (and very few babble-like sounds) and I’m considering bringing it up if it’s not mentioned. parma986 hey 👋 I got a lot of hidden boxes too... which is why DD1 is getting something for Xmas I intended on for her birthday last March 😆

Long day - my school’s Christmas program was tonight. The kids all had North Pole type outfits (collected from Xmas programs at our school over the last 10+ years) and they all looked so cute!
MIL came to babysit so I could go to the program. We turned the heat up for her to 74 and I am now melting. She gets cold very easily (and she’s a tiny little thing!) but DD1 wanted to sleep in shorts now and I had to convince her it would not be this warm when she woke up tomorrow!

danvers I’m an early intervention SLP so I am happy to answer any developmental questions you have! I’m in Canada so I can’t help much with procedures or programs though. Typically we look for a minimum of 15-20 words by 18 months. Newer research is showing that this number should be closer to 50 words by 18 months. Babbling and variegated babbling (sounds more like “talking” as they are varying sound combinations, mamabada etc) are the precursors to words. You should be seeing those my now but there is definite variability. The average age for first words is right around a year

Also, my standard warning to all parents everywhere...paediatricians are the experts when it comes to the growth and development of kids, but the are often sorely misinformed or super inaccurate when it comes to speech. I work with a lot of kids who had pedis say “wait and see” rather than referring for assessment and they waited, nothing changed, and now the kids are just further behind. It is one of the hugest frustrations in my job and is so incredibly frustrating. So if you are concerned, at all, push for a referral or a consult or at least ask me (or another SLP) instead of waiting

duskymonkey No oven recommendations from me but I feel like there may have been a recent discussion on GD about ovens... maybe? I feel like my brain is mush lately with all the things I have to juggle danvers DD isn’t saying very much at all... dada and tis which means the thing she wants. She makes lots of different babbling noises but isn’t very vocal overall. Like if things weren’t crashing and banging and her little feet running, you wouldn’t know she is around. She’s understanding pretty much everything but I’m saying because I can direct her to do something and she knows what I’m saying. I’m definitely going to bring it up at her 18 month appointment if she’s still not saying many words. I did have concerns about DD1 prior to 18 months and then 2 weeks after her appointment her verbals exploded.

I am catching up here drinking wine and watching my hockey team lose after wrapping my Christmas presents and sleeping in today while the kids were at daycare. Best day in a while!
I need diaper rash advice... about a month ago DD got a rash that was more like a burn. My fault since her poops barely stink and she sat in it for a bit. It took a few days for her to recover but it was like a burn and her bum was all raw... she would cry when she peed for a few days. Lots of cream and diaper free time cleared it up but it took a while... now it’s happened again. I don’t know if it’s what she’s eating because I don’t remember DD1 ever getting a burnt bum. So far I’ve tried sudocream, Mustelea and Destin. Should I try to get a prescription?
I’m also realizing that maybe DD1 had Celiac a lot longer than I originally suspected since she always had stinky poops.

My kids love the little mandarins but with the acid in them I’ve noticed that too many can lead to rash issues

danvers Cornflakes are common here at the western grocery stores, so I don’t know why it was such a hot item? We also brought pizza from our favorite place (another thing the kids had on their list), and it was a huge hit! I think your H has good taste in cereal- although I am not as healthy and prefer Frosted Flakes 😁 August Blooms Wine and being done with wrapping sounds amaaaaazing. I need to get my stuff together and get the wrapping done ASAP!

Party for DS1 at school was so much fun today. Everyone was in a good mood, and it was a great way to close out the fall 2019 term! Now we have a 3.5 week break to look forward to. I need to figure out some activities for the kids to keep them occupied!
We are taking LO to a little gym next week to see if i helps his confidence with walking. He can definitely walk across an entire room on his own, but he is very unsteady still and always wants to grab someone’s hand for reassurance. I am hoping the little gym class will help. I think I’m going to put him in swimming classes stating in January too.
Aside from that, I am absolutely swamped with year-end stuff at work and am desperately trying to get it all done before we leave for our Christmas ski trip to Japan next week. Argh!

This!! I wish that I had known this when DS1 was younger. We just got done going through the evaluations/IEP process for him to get the speech therapy he needs. I wish we would have started sooner, but we trusted the doctor and did the wait and watch. Hey ladies! I've been trying to do a better job of reading along. This past year has flown by
I feel like I've been just so busy! Partially the season(baking, decorating, shopping, celebrations!), but I'm also doing training to be a girl scout leader, getting ready for DS1 to start preschool and speech therapy (Monday!!), and we've been battling all kinds of sickness. We got a new puppy back in the spring, and we're still working pretty hard on the training for her.

He has no words. No mama no dada, nothing. He babbles and points and says “da” for everything. H thinks it’s fine, I’m more worried bc I compare to DS1 who had tons of words by now.

Well great now I'm worried about words too. Why can't my kid just do the thing.
I'm mama. H is mama. Everything else is a string of screeching. We may be close to hi.
Still no walking or crawling.

I would continue to “wait and see” until 15-18 months, that is totally valid. But I get a lot of kids at 3 or 4 (!!!!) where their parents have been concerned for a loooong time and the pedis still said wait. That is not a good approach any more There is huge variability in the 12-18 month range which is why we are often looking for markers at 18 months unless kids are extremely behind. It is so hard not to compare though. With both my kids I kept a note on my phone with their vocabulary when they started talking and I still have DD’s (she is 4) that I keep checking back on to see which words she had compared to DS 😬 I felt like because I tell parents these norms I wanted to keep track for my own kids to see lol

I’m sorry, I did not mean to make you stress or worry more! There can be a connection between speech and motor skills. If a child is delayed in one area they may be slower to develop in another as well, just so you are aware! I work with an occupational therapist because it is reasonably common for kids with speech and language delays to also have fine or visual motor delays She is still little, I probably wouldn’t worry too much yet, just keep talking to her (sounds obvious I know) and labeling lots of the “important” things in her life what feels like fifty million times

Our grocery store had 2 for $5 on organic raspberries so I grabbed 2 and she’s been eating them by the fistful. They go bad so quick or I’d stock up.
