slenle we started having the kids each pick the name of 1 cousin to buy for and we don’t buy for adults. Of course with 10 kids and 4 is them being mine, I’m buying for 4 out of 6 anyway but it’s fine.

The Grinch was so cute! I was kind of skeptical of yet another remake (esp bc the Jim Carrey one creeped me out) but this one is worth seeing. B was cracking up. It was C’s first movie and she loved it; stood in front of her seat the entire time just mesmerized, except when ‘dance music’ came on and she started boogieing 😂😂

It might be my favorite one now.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of the Grinch movies in full length. I saw pieces of them all on TV, but never in its entirety. I really liked this one and wondered if it was anything close to the others. Doesn’t sound like it from you guys wedding and flamingo. That may be a FFFC. Lol

Lol I do love the original animated one...it sticks straight to the book, the narration was great, and of course it had the classic Grinch song sung by Thurl Ravenscroft. But I thought this was a very good, 'updated' remake. The story was embellished a bit in spots but it stayed true to the idea. Clearly I have a lot of thoughts about the Grinch!

It’s B’s Christmas concert tonight. It’s total chaos in here and although kinders are preforming first, it’s going to be iffy of he makes it to the end of the entire performance.. He’s exhausted by Friday night. So 🤞 we make it to the end.

joelies Sounds all positive. Does your dh realize that he’s putting less money in and spending more? Hope it’ll get evened out. I'm ending up paying the full year of property & car taxes and 90% of the 529 funds out of my savings, so yes, he seems to get it and get why I've been so annoyed about him trying to reimburse himself for every little thing. Thank goodness! Its interesting to hear how other people do finances. We do the opposite it seems: our paychecks go into the joint account then we both take a small amount out into our personal accounts. He makes a lot more than me though (well, did) so he ultimately contributes more to fund our life.

We merged everything shortly after we got married. I do maintain credit cards in my own name in case of an emergency, and I have my retirement account from my working days that DH funds, but he manages that for me and otherwise everything is combined. It's always worked well for us.

I’m grateful he doesn’t gripe too much about spending. He’s realized he can’t complain about my spending when I’m the only one who has to shop for every single thing.

I do the vast majority of the daily spending so sometimes I feel like I'm just burning money, but fortunately he 'gets' it. If we want to do something bigger (buy new furniture or some other big ticket project or item), we discuss and he'll budget for it and tell me when we can pull the trigger.

We used to do I paid the mortgage and he paid everything else. Then we merged savings and then he added me to his checking. I still have a small checking account but now that I don’t work, it just sits there. Just today I filled out a request for a debit card on the joint checking. I figured if I could figure out an avatar, I’m ready to figure out an ATM (maybe that’s my confession, I’ve never used one). For now, he makes the money and I spend it. We basically make all purchases on a joint Amex.

We keep our money separate but we’re signers in each other’s accounts. Everything is linked so we can see everything and we each have debit cards for both accounts. I’m the one that pays for all of the kids’ stuff though.

peachsmama Having met you in person, i can’t imagine you being a bitch to anyone! Haha thanks! It's the red hair.. I'm pretty much the flip the boat over person when no one else wants to rock it. In this case my project manager was trying to pressure me into something that the builder and I had discussed and agreed upon a full year ago. And the builder sided with me today.

We actually opened a joint account when we were still in college and had been dating for two years. Everyone thought we were crazy, but we were living together so we used that account for house stuff and date nights, basically everything we did together. We both contributed what we wanted. We still have the same account, but obviously I don’t work. We pay basically everything out of this, but dh pays the mortgage out of his account. I have an amazon cc that is “mine” so I can buy Christmas and bday gifts with some secrecy. Otherwise we are co signers on all our accounts and cc’s

MH didn't have a joint account with the ex and they had lots of separate responsibilities. I think in their case it resulted in them not making it. He was in grad school at the time and she worked. We got joint everything when we married till his reluctance. I think he is ever so grateful about me handling all our finances. Last year we started budgeting a monthly allowance that us no questions asked (usually eating out for lunch) and some $ budgeted for each of us to spend from each of his overtimes.
Actually, we were really bad at budgeting but starting mint 2yrs ago we have put aside a lot. Also acorn has been great for a little extra savings too.

slenle, I'm not sure what thread you were talking about where you said you drew names for the kids vs buying for all 11. 11 kids to buy for is a ton! On my side there are 6 (soon to be 7) kids and we buy for our God children (or honorary God children for my sister's kids who aren't baptized) so I have 2 to buy for. I love that I can spend more on their gifts. 11 kids I'd be handing out some coloring books or something! Thank you for getting it! Our kids are 2 of the 11 so we have to buy for 9, but that’s still a lot . And my brother and sister each have 2 boys and 2 girls so they have everything. It’s so hard!

Zero joint accounts here. We have hello wallet through MH's work so we can see big picture of how we are doing. Now that expenses are jumping with the house, we prob should open one.

Also no joint accounts here, talked about it a million times, but just never did it. We know what is in each other’s account and it has always been our money, not his/mine. Purchases over 100 are discussed. Once every while we check if we’re doing okay with savings etc.
ETA it is a very loose approach, but somehow this works for us.

We have a joint account and out individual accounts. He puts way more into the joint account. He puts more into the joint account now bc he makes more and bc I pay more personally for the kids. When we had no kids it was 50/50
All ‘ house’ bills are through the joint account
We each pay for our personal stuff out of our own account
I pay for all kids stuff , gifts. And health insurance/medical bills
He pays for most of the groceries and random extra stuff

Re: gifts On my side, we buy for the second generation of cousins (aged 4-30). Everyone only has two kids each so it feels balanced. On MH’s side, we just buy for the nieces and nephew. My SIL is the most amazing gift giver ever. Whatever she buys my kids are instant hits.
Re: finances We have joint accounts for everything except our 403bs. I transferred everything over to the joint account once I went on maternity leave. Oddly enough this was a very easy decision for us, as MH was married before, and his ex took a huge chunk out of their saving when she left. We both have an extra credit card in our own names, but never use them really except for a monthly subscription on each (Netflix and Hulu) to keep our credit in check so the card doesn’t sit idle.
