@ joeslies that sucks I’m sorry, and it doesn’t seem fair. Finances are the worst sometimes. Add me to the list of over the top Christmas. Gifts are my love language... I love giving them and I love receiving them. I probably get each kid about 8, 4-8 that are for all of them, and 8 for Shaun. I split this up between us and Santa, and Santa wraps a few and leaves a few unwrapped, usually a bigger item like a bike. guster I put our presents out throughout the month as I buy them and wrap them, and all of Santa’s appear Christmas morning. I actually almost love Christmas Eve more than Christmas Day. It’s such a great family day and there is so much excitement, and dh and I always stay up late watching Christmas movies, drinking eggnog, and getting all the Santa presents together. I love that idea cagoldi!!

Just realized that our prek isn't adopting a family this year, humph. The one through my Dept is asking for cash and then they buy a bunch of gift cards. I think it's internal so for families that have had a rough patch..I kind of want to be like HR maybe pay them more🤷.
For sheltering kids, I think I've overdone it. We were at a coffee shop the other night with J's friend and they apparently watched the plane arrive with the casket...i couldn't see the TV from where I was standing talking to the other parents. That was a LONG drive home of 20 questions about why did he die, was he ok in the box, was his family sad, why were there canons, will he be put in a box when he dies. I needed a drink when I got home. Def wasn't prepared for heavy hitting parenting questions during an evening commute. Also how do I talk about religion with my kid? He asked when we are getting a menorah and then why we weren't Jewish tonight..

Should we do that, N13 as a group? Find a family to sponsor? I’d be in!

Well I’ve had a first tonight on weather to include or exclude S in a group activity with school. 😞
The Christmas program is Friday night. The kids all dress up and each class sings and dances to 2 songs on stage. We had plans to head out of town Friday after school anyway. But decided I should check with her aide on her level of involvement and change my plans if needed. She said that S has not shown any interest in the singing/dancing and that there was a lot of sitting and waiting....which she doesn’t do well. So we will not be participating. It’s hard because I want her to be part of the group and I don’t want to exclude her. But I can see that situation (sitting and waiting) being miserable for her and everyone else trying to keep her happy and content during that time. I’m hopeful that next year she may be more willing to go along with that kind of thing.

lfig that is a hard decision but I think at this age there is a lot of joys that get antsy sitting and waiting. There's also a lot of parents that choose this time of year (and friday night) to move along with their plans.

Waiting at the clinic for N’s well check. They play a lullaby over the speaker when a baby is born at the hospital. I’ve never heard it personally but heard about it.... They just played the lullaby now and I got instant teary eyed. Baby fever much? They do that at our hospital too...does that mean that you’ll be trying for a 3.0 soon?

My dad was suppose to take DS to hockey because DH has his Christmas party for work. 5 minutes before they were leaving, DS starts crying that he can’t go because his legs hurt. He was out at a Devil’s game Monday and he had a game last night at 8:30 so I thought he was just exhausted. Nope, a few minutes later, he starts throwing up. I have clearly failed as a mother because he’s 11 and was throwing up all over the living room. I yelled to get in the bathroom, he slipped and fell in his own vomit on the way and then continued to throw up on the toilet with the freaking lid down! I had to put the baby in the pack and play where he screams and the dog behind the kitchen gate where she kept barking while I cleaned forever. Got my dad to pick up DD from gymnastics thankfully. For now everyone is sleeping. I’m just going to stay up forever because I may have nightmares.

Aww, I'm sorry lfig, that's hard. I can totally understand not wanting to 'push it' but also wanting her to feel included and be a part of school events. Hopefully next year (or maybe if they do a year-end program?...our schools always have), she will be more interested and able to handle the "hurry up and wait" aspect a bit better.

Oh no kim22! I hope your DS feels better soon, and gets better aim when he’s vomiting.

omg kim22 I'm laughing and cringing simultaneously, it sounds like something out of a sitcom. How do husbands always miss out on the fun?! I hope you have a big glass of wine to enjoy (and that your oldest feels better soon, of course!) Also, FTR, I think some (many? all?) men have a very difficult time throwing up, so this may just be a biological flaw and not anything you've done

Ffc: I really like when the melatonin kicks in quickly and the girl falls asleep during mh's shift of bedtime, then I don't even have to go in there at all.

Damn pony is out again. My dad thought he found her spot. Apparently he was wrong.. I can hear her getting in the chicken feed.. I am not chasing her in the dark. She'll be fine until morning.

That’s one of those ‘just burn the house down’ scenarios. kim22 I wish you could have seen my face as I was reading that. Awful. Hope your son feels better soon. :: makes mental note to discuss where we go when one thinks he will throw up::

Oh my gosh kim22. Yikes. You definitely earned a special parenting badge with that one. Hugs lfig. Hopefully as she gets older she'll be more comfortable with that type of thing. Maybe you could see if she'd do her own little performance for you guys at home of what they've been practicing? No pressure, audience, or waiting.

On FB Madison's school shared a picture of their giving tree. One of the items requested was a smoke detector. I have a ton of MREs that I didn't eat at a training and we're taking the girls to tent city to offer them to people there this weekend. I'm in for adopting a family.

Christmas Eve is my favorite too. It was our main celebration time with our German roots. Now we spend Christmas eve at night parents and open presents there. Even though it's a 3 hour drive we leave late that night so we can spend Christmas day at home.
I get the kids around 6-8 gifts--some together ones like art supplies or building toys. Gifts from us go under the tree as I wrap. Gifts from Santa are wrapped and each in their own pile with their stocking resting against them. I'm careful to use different wrapping for Santa gifts.
We relax and the kids play with their new toys Christmas day and in the evening we have a casual dinner at my friend's house and watch a movie.

kim22, omg. I'm not going to lie, I was laughing picturing how all of this went down. I hope you had a puke free rest of your night and your son learned to puke in the toilet with the lid UP.

Everything gets wrapped! I can't handle these stories of presents just unwrapped under the tree. That takes away so much fun! Each of my kids has 7 gifts to unwrap and their stocking. I was going to do a larger joint gift from us, but MH and I decided they won't care or really notice so I think everything is just going to be from Santa this year.

I wrap everything inside of the stockings, too. My mom did it and it just stuck!

I’m pretty sure last year we had this same conversation about who doesn’t wrap gifts from Santa, who does, who wraps stocking stuffers, and who doesn’t. 🤣🤣🤣 But seriously, unwrapping gifts was the best part as a child.
