I love Dan Rather's advice. I am not giving up hope that we win the whole thing. House, Senate, governors races, all of it. COME ON AMERICA! LET'S DO THIS!

When I was very young, I thought he was the President, because he was on the news every night. To be fair, I was like five, Reagan was president at the time and they were both older white men with black hair. I love his posts, and I can hear his voice in my head when I read them. (Dan Rather, not Reagan lol.)

To add to my anxiety, I am fb fighting about the lack of security presence at my kids’ school (a polling place) this morning. Good times. I hate that they use the school, it’s so crazy that anyone can just walk in today. We shouldn’t have to worry about it, but we do. I was talking to our counselor about this today. Every other day we have to buzz in every single person and soon there will be a gun safe. But on Election Day?? Let everyone come in no problem!! 🙄

I almost got into an argument with a student today who said she never intends to vote because no one in her family has ever voted and she hates all politics and wants to throat punch all politicians. Damn. I don't even know where you would start with that. She's already at throat punching. She has a very dramatic personality and I don’t know if she was saying this truthfully or for affect. I said a couple things and then let it drop.

I almost got into an argument with a student today who said she never intends to vote because no one in her family has ever voted and she hates all politics and wants to throat punch all politicians. In college, when I was younger and dumber, I told my professor that i had to miss class because of a family vacation. She said, how will you vote (election day fell during vacation)? Do you have an absentee ballot? I didn't, so I thought on my feet and said snottily that I never vote because I hate politics and they're all the same, etc. My professor lectured me so hard that day. But she did it in a way that stuck with me. She asked me to think of one thing that is important to me and then look at the people running for office and see how they feel about it. Just one thing. She listed off examples, the environment, gay rights, women's rights. She challenged me to pick one thing and see if the candidates running were all the same. She also asked me to look up countries that have free elections and those that don't and see which one I wanted to live in. This was all very early internet so I didn't immediately take on this research project. But it stuck with me and over time I learned what she meant. This is good and I might talk with her after school about it. One of her very good friends is Transgender so I will talk to her about that and how 45 wants to erase them.

In our (very red) county, early voting stations are at libraries but on Election Day they are in churches.

Oh gosh, someone in my office brought in snickerdoodles. Save me from myself!!! I have chocolate chip cookies literally sitting on my desk and I am trying my hardest to wait to eat them until at least noon because that seems like a reasonable show of self restraint.

I just got back from voting and there was zero line (tiny rural town) but the lady who checked me in said how it was so nice to see so many people out voting today- a refreshing change. So that made me feel a bit hopeful.
However, for some reason they have me down as just my first initial and last name, and I realized my voter card says the same thing. Wtf?

Just got back. Wait was not too bad. There were lots of young parents with their kids and not so many old people. I'm hoping that's a good sign. I'm in a very red state, but there are some local elections and school board changes that might work out. The poll workers said the line was out the door this morning. If that's the turn out in my area I'm starting to have a shred of hope about the rest of the country!
Edit: Given up on adding a picture. It keeps being sideways or huge

I will vote when I get out of work. I spent last night trying to convince my husband and brother both of whom have never voted and feel so defeated. I’m trying not to let it get to me but it feels so disheartening.

I know there are going to be tons of reports of voter turnout today. I hope all states have numbers like TN. My parents love to make fun of "the millennials" and I would so love for the millennial to hand it back to them by voting.

I just went to vote. They made me vote provisionally because they said they mailed me an absentee ballot even though I thought I missed the deadline. And I also never got a ballot in the mail. Luckily, there wasn’t a line, but trying to figure out what to do and how to handle it the right way was a hot mess with 4 kids. But it’s done, so yay!

I’m trying not to let it get to me but it feels so disheartening. I mentioned this in a thread on GD recently, but H never voted till he met me. I lost my mind when I found out. He said something about how it didn't matter and I ranted about how of course it doesn't matter for him — he's white, male, and has money. What about people who don't check those boxes? Does he give no fucks about them? He votes now 😂 All to say I understand your frustration, and offer sympathy. It’s because he says he never likes any of the candidates.

I'm so relieved, my daycare provider is going to vote after work. I asked her yesterday if she'd have the time/opportunity, and she said she wasn't sure; last year she went to poll with her husband and daughter and was turned away, so she didn't know where to go or what to do. Well I went home and sent her a link to the state board of elections site. Her polling location is entirely different than theirs and kind of far away. I think this is weird, but she's going! She's asked all of her parents to get the children by 5:30 so she can go.

Fatpony you guys are so cute!! How are you feeling today? Thanks! Still sore. The crazy way I sleep with the baby in bed with us isn't helping matters either. I'm so excited for my visit to my sister so I can have just a bed with the baby, no cats or husband.

Now he votes in primaries and school board special elections
