I have a slightly on topic question. I have a friend in Pittsburgh that has two kids at home sick and her husband is out of town. She is worried about making it to vote. Does not readily have childcare to support. What resources can I point her to?

Barack Obama was elected President ten years ago today
Whoops, sorry, fake news! Apparently I don't know how to read. It was actually November 4, 2008.

I’m in line to vote. I got here 7 minutes after the polls open and I’m probably 50 in line. Last time I got here at 7:30 and I was the 11th voter. Really high turnout it seems!

Does not readily have childcare to support. What resources can I point her to? I'm sorry, I don't know of anything offhand, but this is a really good reason that every state should have early voting. People get sick. People's kids get sick. Flash floods happen. Work deadlines get moved. I mean, FFS, election day is in the middle of hurricane season. You simply can't predict the factors that could keep people from the polls in a 13 hour span

Does not readily have childcare to support. What resources can I point her to? do they have a curbside voting option? I don’t know if that can be used in this instance or not. That way she can pack the kids in the car. I don’t know, that’s the only thing I can think of.

I voted about 15 minutes after the polls opened here (in PA) and there were maybe 30 people in line. Usually I can walk right in. And it’s absolutely pouring here. I’m really, really hoping that’s a good sign.

Hi! Hope you don't mind a new face jumping in! Add me to the list of those who didn't sleep well. When I get nervous, I get productive. All of my birthday, Hanukkah, and Christmas shopping is done. Next up, cleaning every inch of the house.

I sort of stopped posting in politics after 2016, but I just love election day and refuse to let that shit show of an election dampen my spirit.
I posted this over on GD, but when I checked in to vote this morning I accidentally gave the wrong name! I was standing there trying to decide if I should say my middle name, then stupidly blurted out my maiden name. I blame adrenaline. And the old dude checking me in may have thought I was a nut/trying to commit voter fraud.

I’ve been in line for about 10 minutes. Five minutes to polls opening. A decent line is forming behind me.
I’m really excited to vote for Beto!

So far really good turnout where I live. H was stopping to vote this morning but there was no where to park so he’ll go back later. I hope this doesn’t deter anyone trying to vote at that location though. I’m thinking of going at lunch.

Hello, hello!
I am glad the day is finally here. I need to find something alcoholic to have with dinner this evening. I’m living in no-sleep newborn land right now so I will be in bed before results come in, but will check on them as I am up nursing later in the night.
I voted by mail a few weeks ago. Our governor’s race is very tight- hoping against hope for a good outcome.

I was voter #134 this morning at 6:50. There was almost no line, which worries me. I waited for about 30 minutes in 2016 around the same time of day.

Does not readily have childcare to support. What resources can I point her to? I don't have any advice, but I am in a similar situation, except I am a SAHM. We found out Sunday that my H had to travel for work today. There is no early voting in my state, and it was too late to vote absentee by mail. I think there was a way to vote absentee in person, but it was 25 miles from my house. So I am taking my chances and bringing my almost 2 year old and 6 month old with me. I hope the lines are ok. Situations like these (and a million others) are why there should be plenty of opportunity to vote early. This is my first year voting in this state. We lived just across the border in years past, and it was very easy to vote early. I am in the same metro area, but technically a different state, and the difference in voting protocol is striking.

Also heard that someone waited 3 hours to early vote on Sunday.

It took MH almost an hour to vote this morning in GA 6th and he got there right when polls opened. Everyone I have spoken to who votes in and around ATL has said that lines were enormous, both in terms of early voting and so far this morning.
The polling numbers when I checked last night were in a dead heat for basically all of the biggest seats so I'm not exactly shocked at the intensity of this election but this is really a fascinating moment for the state. I'm really interested to see what the final voter participation stats are this year. If nothing else, I am so happy to see more people getting involved in the process.

There are so many races where a really, really great candidate is running against just a terrible awful person. It raises the stakes even more.
