I have a slightly on topic question. I have a friend in Pittsburgh that has two kids at home sick and her husband is out of town. She is worried about making it to vote. Does not readily have childcare to support. What resources can I point her to? I don't have any advice, but I am in a similar situation, except I am a SAHM. We found out Sunday that my H had to travel for work today. There is no early voting in my state, and it was too late to vote absentee by mail. I think there was a way to vote absentee in person, but it was 25 miles from my house. So I am taking my chances and bringing my almost 2 year old and 6 month old with me. I hope the lines are ok. Situations like these (and a million others) are why there should be plenty of opportunity to vote early. This is my first year voting in this state. We lived just across the border in years past, and it was very easy to vote early. I am in the same metro area, but technically a different state, and the difference in voting protocol is striking. Good luck! I will tell you that I have brought both my kids to every single time I've voted. I think its good for them and they learn how important it is. And while I think the longest I've ever had to wait was about 15 min with my oldest, most people are understanding and encouraging. They are after all future voters!

In the interest of lightening the mood, I'll share my super smooth voting FFMC that I shared yesterday with Tlex (just c&p my texts, because lazy)-- There's this preschool dad who was in my high school class... I don't have a crush on him, per se, but I have awkward residual feelings from high school when he was cool and I was... not. I voted this morning and as I was leaving, he was in the back of line, "hey Books, what're you up to." (Which, granted, was a dumb question on his part because I was clearly part of the voting throng.) Anyway the words that came out of my mouth were, "Just exercising the ol' civic duty!"

In my experience, parents that have brought their children to vote with long lines, have been welcomed and helped by others in line. Everyone I have seen has tried to help the parent by giving attention to the kids/playing with them etc.

I just spoke to two women in my department, both of whom live in my district. We all voted for Wexton! YES.

I had DS (21 months) in the stroller, because he's kind of a terror, and he did great for the first 20 minutes. Then he got vocal when I was actually at the voting machine, and a nice poll worker came to chat with him about his toy truck until I finished. I hope people won't let lack of childcare keep them from voting!

A little bit of levity for IL voters this morning.

I'm standing in line right now to vote. It's supposed to be a 45 minute wait. This is a huge difference to any other time I've voted here. I've never seen a line here ever. Yesterday in a nearby location there was a two hour wait for early voting. This is amazing.

I’m trying to decide for tonight between going to a post-election party for one of our judicial candidates (I’m working a poll for him for several hours today) or to go home. I don’t want to be around people if things are going badly. I’m so nervous.

There's a woman in front of me that looks very pregnant. I'm willing to offer to hold her place in line if she has to pee. I mean it's a 45 minute wait.

I just spoke to two women in my department, both of whom live in my district. We all voted for Wexton! YES. We met some people out canvassing in Aldie on Saturday who had been cited by their HOA for putting up a Kaine/Wexton sign and they said, "Worth it."

jkjacq, 15 minutes would be wonderful. I haven't voted in this state before so I hope it is that fast. I have waited at least an hour in past elections in other states so I guess I was expecting the worst! I agree it's great to bring kids when you can. We are loading up on snacks and books and packing up the double stroller.

He was talking non-stop and having trouble standing still. But people were so kind. The lady in front of us told he was the best thing that happened to her today and someone else went to get him a sticker from the front of the line. I think most people love seeing the littles involved in the process.

Voted this morning in VA's 1st; it's unlikely that Vangie will take Wittman's seat, but I am one vote for her.
I am closely watching Spanburger and Wextons' races.

So I just talked to the pregnant lady and she was really grateful. She said she was actually thinking about asking me if she could pee.

I should add that after I spent a long time explaining where we were going and what we were doing and how important it was, he very seriously asked “but will there be skeletons there?” So. At least I tried lol.

I laughed, hard. The millennials on his timeline are pissed, though! Full disclosure, I had homemade avocado-egg on toast today. 😄

The candidate running for state rep was at my polling location this morning and we had an amazing chat about women in politics and I really, really hope that she wins. I didn’t need another reason to vote for her but she complimented dd’s glasses (we are on day 5 of baby glasses) and took a photo with us so it was icing on the cake.
Mh has a 5 minute wait this morning which is unheard of in our tiny little ward and said it was 50/50 young and old. Normally it’s just the olds. There was also a heavy democratic presence outside and normally it’s just the republican candidates so my fingers are crossed and I am hopeful for my local races!
I’m in one of the horribly gerrymandered districts that was redone this year so I’m curious to see the results.

So I couldn't vote this morning because the line was insane and I never would have made it to work on time. Easily three times the people that I have ever seen at my polling place! I will go back with DS after work.
@icedtea I am in CT too! Feeling nervous but optimistic about the governor election. Are you in Jahana Hayes's district? I am not and sooo wish I could vote for her. My mom is though and she's bringing my grandma with her!

Hope you are all ok with me living in here today and LTing everything.
H told me he already took DS with him to vote this morning so DS gets to go twice. If he learns nothing else from us he will at least know how important it is to vote.
