I really wanted a sticker for the bump but they didn't have any. Rude.

To add to my anxiety, I am fb fighting about the lack of security presence at my kids’ school (a polling place) this morning. Good times. I hate that they use the school, it’s so crazy that anyone can just walk in today. We shouldn’t have to worry about it, but we do. I think having polling locations in schools and other community spots is an important way to model how civic engagement and relations ought to work. My workplace has a polling location in the basement. We offered an early Mass before the polls opened and we’ve got people coffee and water ready if the lines get long later. At our school, voters walk right by the cafeteria (at times full of kids, the library, the music room - it’s not safe.

Chicago had a straw ban on the ballot, too. Anyone else have anything fun and interesting on their local ballot? Horse racing
Except its not exactly horse racing. Its historical horse racing machines. Which when we had them before were ruled as slot machines and therefore illegal since they werent under tribal control. Now they say they aren't slots and just betting machines. they can only be at tracks. And there is some nonsense about a vacant dog track and trying to make a comeback. Our horse racetrack went under about 4 years ago and this would help bring it back. Allegedly
I'm still (less than 8 hours) trying to decide on it. I was for it but I think I'm a no.

I hate the "all politicians are the same" thing because no, no they really, really are not.
I've met some amazing politicians who deeply care about people and about our country and are doing everything they can to make life better for all Americans.

I’m working the provisional table today. I’ve seen quite a few kids with their parents today, which is so exciting.

I am closely watching the OH12 race. I lived in OH12 since birth until 5 years ago. Balderson (R) barely won the special election a few months ago, but I really think O'Connor (D) can pull it off this time around.
OH12 includes the University district, which tends to be more liberal, and the special election took place during summer break.

I am home all day today. I posted in our town mom group that I will meet people at their polling place and watch their kids while they vote. I can't do a ton today but that I can do.

I should add, this polling/school issue is a huge on going local argument, I knew it would be like this today. I just hate it and my anxiety level is already high today.

Like my Senators are Duckworth and Durbin. No where near Cruz or McConnell.

& I'm so glad I don't live anywhere near my parents in times like this. I made the mistake of looking at my mom's fb this morning (we're not friends.) Red wave this, red wave that. I want to barf. I'm going to take DS to see Goosebumps to a little later to waste some time today. Oy. do they realize how stupid "red wave" sounds? I mean, my gosh. no, we're the stupid ones. Duhh

I'm a poster on one of the 2019 BMB boards, but I'm here, too. North Carolina, 2nd Congressional. H and I both voted absentee since I was supposed to be traveling today. The Raleigh newspaper just put out an article 4 days ago explaining that this district was redrawn to give a strong edge to the GOP for this election, but "should" be changed for the next one. www.newsobserver.com/news/politics-government/article221021080.html?fbclid=IwAR3RP60p3QAHaksDgw_LJoxPFf37gn8tLPSVI26hH0ac7xw0s-eKpUIOLcU Regardless, H and I both voted straight ticket D and against all of the amendments. My town already leans red as it was a past farming community that is shell shocked and angry by growth and "others" moving in. I'm praying the "others" along with me are also voting blue. Um...hi neighbor. I am also here. My H and both grandmas as well as myself are doing the same. Hi new neighbor! We just moved to FV in February Glad to hear there are others doing the same - I see so many Adcock and Holding signs, it makes me feel ill.

I thought I would be okay today, but I’m a nervous wreck. Looks like I won’t be getting much done at work while I repeatedly hit refresh!

Chicago had a straw ban on the ballot, too. Anyone else have anything fun and interesting on their local ballot? We have a daylight savings one on the ballot. BUT it’s totally misunderstood. Everyone thinks we are voting to just pick one time to stay on all year, but we are really just voting to allow the legislature to decide that if they want. 🤦🏻♀️ There is a guy who is very pro the measure but doesn’t understand it and I’m sitting on my hands to not correct him because, you know what, it doesn’t really matter. I still voted yes because I would like that change but I have no idea if it will be taken up by the legislature.

H is voting after he gets DD from daycare later, so she'll get to experience it (she's only 1.5, but still). My mom is all fired up too. She was mostly apolitical, though vaguely democrat, until Trump came around. She now spends her days trolling our republican relatives on Facebook and being mad. After much fussing standing in line for an hour with H at the June election, my kid got to experience early voting this year instead.

Dan Rather just posted this and its really good to keep in mind ·
Some gentle advice as you move through this Election Day and all of the news coverage: — Assume nothing. Remember that, especially in politics, what we most expect often doesn’t happen; what we least expect frequently occurs. — Late shifts in voter preferences are common, bringing surprises. — Independents are the key today. As they go, so will go many of the most important races.

Our state legislature passed a bill last year that it would go on the ballot if/when our neighboring states do away with it. I hope we get there soon!

I am stress-eating all the Halloween candy in the house. In an hour, I'm going to need to hit the store and buy more.

Another lurker here checking in. H and I are taking the kids after work to vote, though seeing people with their voting stickers on the train this morning made me regret not going earlier. I am nervous AF and ready to turn my cookie stash into my second breakfast.

We all three went to vote at 7:00. M thought we were going to “BOAT” and wanted to “boat” for the leaves on the ground. He was kind of a handful lol but I’m glad we took him. The Girl Scouts were there having a bake sale and I thought of ((@darlene )). Thanks for thinking of me. My girls are looking to donate a bench in troop 3055's honor to be placed at our council's lake house. They are really sweet girls.

Except mine was a republican and now she does all of her "trolling" in person because she doesn't do social media and gets into fights with friends and relatives. Go mom!
