August Blooms H’s dad only started taking care of his diabetes once grandkids came into the picture. I wish your MiL would do the same. Its so frustrating. cythe diaper changes with DD2 are like wrestling’s here. I’m no help on the TV question. Ours is on more than I would like but H loves it for noise and I just try to make sure there’s lots of play and whatnot when I feel we go overboard. duskymonkey they will always be our babies - evem I’d they don’t fit quite as snuggly while nursing

cythe I feel like Debbie downer saying this, but scientific research and the AAP say that from birth to 18 months old, the less screen time the better. Obviously it’s not practical/possible for most ppl to totally cut out TV for their kids, but I do agree that minimizing it is ideal. I’ve noticed that DS1 is more naughty and generally a brat the more screen time he gets. Those times when we’ve let him have more (while traveling or sick or just lazy)...it always ends up affecting him negatively. For LO, we don’t have the TV on around him, and he only sees a screen when we have to cut his nails (to get him to hold still), or during long (2+ hr) car rides when he is fussy. What really convinced us was having a close friend who is a clinical pediatric researcher and reading the following book: www.amazon.com/Brain-Rules-Baby-Raise-Smart/dp/0979777763Again, I know it’s not possible for everyone to limit or eliminate screen time, but it’s worked really well for us. Our TV is on max 1-2 hrs per week. DS1 gets about 1-2 hours total (often less) of iPad time per week. Only educational apps and an adult normally sits with/follows along during iPad time. I realize I’m probably the weirdo on this one 🤷♀️ The AAP makes the following recommendations for screen time: -For children under 18 months old, screen time should be limited to video chatting -Children 18-24 months should only be exposed to high-quality media, with parents watching alongside to help them understand and engage with what they’re watching -Children 2-5 years old should be limited to 1 hour per day of high-quality programming; again, parents should watch along with them to help them make real world connections

August Blooms I’m so sorry about your MIL - that sounds really rough all around ☹️. I hope she changes her ways and is able to stick around longer, for your kid’s sake if anything.

I’m 100% with you Taitai but I know it’s not the norm. We do get weird looks often when we explain DD hasn’t seen a show/movie etc. We also don’t have cable. We do essentially 0 screentime before 2. Occasional exceptions being an early start hockey game on but both kids basically ignore that, and nail cutting...because DS is a wild child. At 2 we started occasionally allowing a tv show on Netflix. DD is now 4 and watches a show on Netflix once a week (20-30 min), sometimes not at all. We will do a rare movie night as something special. No iPad/phone at all. She has a leap pad that she will play maybe once every couple weeks, it’s mostly used for travel. We let her play leap pad or watch a movie/shows if we are flying or driving for more than a couple hours

Also worth noting I’m an SLP so parents being involved in screen time and making it interactive is huge for me

Well, DS1’s cough turned into a secondary bacterial infection on his lungs, so now he’s on antibiotics. He’s had to miss the last 3 days of school, and he was coughing so hard this morning that he could barely catch his breath and was turning red in the face. 5 hours after the first antibiotic dose - like night and day. Sooooo much better.
I wish he could have beaten this cold on his own, but it’s his first time taking antibiotics (and he’s 3.5), so I guess it was bound to happen at some point. I just am glad he’s feeling better. Cannot wait for him to go back to school on Monday!
Between the house guests last week and a cooped up, sick toddler at home the past 3 days, I’m feeling drained. Doesn’t help that LO, our nanny, and I also still are sick with chest colds/nasal congestion. Ugh. At least the 3 of us are on the upswing, so that’s a positive 👍

I want to say follow the guidelines... I did with my first but here we are... 🤷🏼♀️ Neither kid uses a tablet, we will occasionally watch music videos on you tube. The actual tv is often on, but the kids are not generally interested unless their channel is on. The baby is actually not super interested but is becoming more so especially the Wiggles or something with music. DD1 probably actively watches about an hour on days she goes to daycare and probably 2 ish on the days home. Sometimes more depending on the day we are having. We are trying to work on less.

It snowed and then melted today. I dropped the kids at daycare, got a Christmas drink from Starbucks and went shopping for Christmas decor. DH is away for work, it’s been going well, I have to go in tomorrow so my sister is watching the kids. DD1 is super excited about her aunt coming to hang out.

So jealous of all those with snow - I love snow ❄️ ⛄️ but snow isn’t super common here. Ridiculous Cold yes. Snow no.
Not sure of our weekend plans today. H has morning bball practice and then we might head to his parents. I’m hoping we stay home and nap because the girls still haven’t adjusted to DST. DD2 was up at 5:30 this morning so she’s crawling around the living room stuffing things into a paper towel tube while I scroll through the internet. Hopefully the rest of you alls babies have figured out DST.

I've been trying to catch up. M has an ear infection. ☹😣 and I'm having the hardest time with the amoxicillin. She took almost a full dose last night. It was mixed with applesauce. This morning was not as successful. Anyone have ideas? The alternative is to give a rocephin(?) injection. So I need to figure out how to do amox for 10 days twice a day.
Plus af is here and my patience is not at 100%.

Snowing here too!
Guise, I’m mildly freaking out. I got AF back after I cut out the afternoon nursing session at 11ish months. I got my cycle the next months at like 30 days. It is currently CD38 and nothing. I know it can be irregular while still BFing, but I got an iud at 6 week pp with DD so I didn’t get a cycle until it was removed when we ready to TTC so this is totally new to me. We have used a condom every time but I’m still mildly panicking that I’m pregnant 😳 We are pretty sure we will have a #3 but not until DS is 2-3 😬 Someone talk me off the ledge.

Now that I put that out there how much do we want to bet that AF will start with a vengeance in like an hour 🙄

Now that I put that out there how much do we want to bet that AF will start with a vengeance in like an hour 🙄 Any luck, its been 2 hours In all seriousness there really isnt any way to talk you off a ledge because you know everything we'd tell you. Cycles can vary after a baby - complicated both by your body trying to remember what its supposed to be doing as well as the irregularities in hormone production thanks to BFing. The odds of a condom breaking are low, but not impossible. End of the day, you could be pregnant and you could not be. Only one way to know for sure!

doodlemommy I’m guessing you’re good and its just your body figuring things out. When my cycle returned after DD1 it was anywhere from 30-58 days until I quite BF for good. I just got my cycle back for the first time with DD2 and my body can’t seem to decide what it’s doing. So day 4 and I can’t tell if it’s light or heavy or done or just starting. Gonna need my body to figure this out soon cause I feel a bit like a clueless 12 yr old girl and I’m very over it and annoyed 😑

I’ll admit; I’m terrified to poas, so I’m burying my head in the sand and assuming all is good and AF will show up at some point 🤷♀️ At some point I’ll give in and poas since I have no chill

Today is my anniversary and we have no plans. It’s currently 4:30 and H is laying in bed. I told him 2-3 weeks ago I’d like to see a Star is born and have dinner...for some reason he canceled our childcare while I was away and was texting me for advice on who could babysit. Ummm, my parents, like originally planned, that’s who. And no I don’t want to figure this out while away on a work trip.

doodlemommy Eeeek. The body does weird things while still breastfeeding, so it might be nothing. That said, you should probably test soon - if nothing other than knowing whether you need to start taking prenatal vitamins/folic acid again. Good luck and keep us posted! curmudgeon So sorry about your H! That sounds all around like a total bummer - fingers crossed he feels better soon 🤞 codex320 We are having the same problem getting antibiotics in DS1. He’s on day 3 of 5, and my patience is also wearing thin. He spit out half his dose this morning and I was pissed at him. I resorted to putting it in eggnog, which he loves. Drank it up without issue. I hope that’s okay to do and doesn’t hurt the effectiveness of the meds 🤔

I thought for sure we’d make it up this year.
