FYI- the haunted house was NOT a good idea. I remember it being much milder. There was crying but no nightmares. And I feel bad i suggested it. Ahhhh -I actually thought it sounded fun! I guess my first inclination on that stuff isn’t so good either. At least no nightmares? I’m sure he’ll get over it soon - kids are resilient. i used to go to this same carnival as a child and it was just a dark loop with intermediate aged kids in costumes, sometimes they were behind a black sheet with holes cut out to stick their arms through, and lots of black light/glow in the dark effects. H said they walked in and were greeted by a grown man with a chainsaw and another washing severed body parts in a sink. Catholic Church apparently stepped it up from 25 years ago.

Do we need a Christmas thread? I am kind of at a loss of what to get the baby (toddler?!!) this year that isn’t some giant noisy toy.

MIL asked for ideas and I’ve got nothing. Pinterest and Amazon browsing hasn’t helped. We need nothing because everyone has spoiled DD1 for 3.5 years but MIL doesn’t like giving clothes or contributing to college or giving “experience gifts”. She wants to give toys and she feels like she must spend the same amount on every grandkid which is ridiculous because my kids can’t count and don’t care “how much things cost or who gets more. SIL gets all upset if things aren’t even between all her kids and somehow that’s extended to us too 🤦♀️🤷♀️ That turned into an in-law Xmas rant... in October.... oops 😬 Anyway, I’m open to ideas y’all

DS just got some ezpz mats (or maybe a different brand, but that style) for a belated birthday gift (I picked them out when my sister asked for ideas) and we LOVE them. A plate/placemat in one that stays still and he can’t throw. Plus cute. He got a car, dinosaur and whales
ETA ours are qshare brand from amazon

Today is the day of fall break. I’ve been off work for 10 days and it’s been glorious. I have such a rough class this year and is now with 2 kids versus just DD1 it has really been a change. Basketball season starts for H so it will be the girls and I alone Mon-Sat until February. I’m giving myself all the mental pep talks right now.

I know just how you feel danvers. Football season is hard but basketball season is too, for sure. (DH used to coach both. I made him quit bball after the first season after DS1 was born. Well, we decided together. Mostly.) Sending hair pats to you and all the germ fighting vibes to your girls. Fx for a great season on the court and at home!

We went to Trunk or Treats tonight and it was a really nice time. Perfect weather. DS1 had a blast but LO wasn't too impressed. He was fussier and clingier than usual today and I'm not sure why. I'll just go ahead and blame it on a tooth. 🤷♀️

Hi ladies! Sorry I disappeared, things have been busy here.
Work is crazy and DS2 is still not sleeping. 😴
Yesterday we signed a contract on a new house in a new neighborhood near us. It's a spec house, so it's closing in December. I'm glad we're don't have to wait a long time on that, but our timeline for selling our current home is short.
DH is all stressed about how rushed everything feels, even though we've been talking about moving for years and looking at houses almost as long. He doesn't do well with change.
Anyway, DS2 has started cruising this past week. I'm not ready!!

Well, it's a morning over here. I slept poorly, as did the baby. Her fever broke sometime yesterday and shes getting back to normal.
Food wise she has started holding a her food in her mouth so she can smoosh it around for hours. It started with difficult to chew foods (steak, green beans, ect) but this morning she was doing it with her beloved eggs. Just makes meal times last forever.
In other good news though, my latest batch of IP yogurt came out pretty good and the baby will eat it. So, I no longer have to worry about her dairy intake since cows milk is a no-go.

cythe I have perfected IP yogurt and my kids eat it like it’s going out of style! I've not had great luck with it, mostly with the flavoring. I keep seeing people say they just eat it as it comes out but it tastes pretty... not good to me! Maybe it's my process?

Add me to the present anxiety from ILs/parents/family. We live so far away, that people are always like- what can we get the kids for Christmas?? And I’m like - don’t you dare send anything here, because I’ll have to pay double what it’s worth in import duties!!
That kind of solves our problem and people are good about sending money for us to buy something useful out here (or just put towards the kids college savings). We do have my ILs coming in Dec and my parents coming in Feb/Mar, so I’m sure they’ll bring some stuff in their suitcases, but at least it will be limited to what they can pack 🤷♀️

I keep seeing people say they just eat it as it comes out but it tastes pretty... not good to me! Maybe it's my process? I use a 4L jug of 2% milk and 2-3 tablespoons of pure vanilla. I don’t add sugar so it’s not sweet but it is vanilla flavoured. I cook for 18 hours to remove the majority of the lactose (apparently according to some dieticians I googled this works) for my H since he is lactose intolerant. We prefer Greek yogurt so once it’s done I strain the whey. I use multiple layers of cheese cloth set into a big colander inside a glass baking pan. Dump the whole quantity in there, stick it In the fridge, walk away for 4-6 hours (depending on the consistency you want). Dump the whey (or keep it for other things apparently, I dump it) and put the yogurt into whatever storage container. If I want other flavours I defrost frozen berries on the counter and mash them up or keep whole and mix the juice and berries in for flavour. Frozen blueberries work great, you get lots of liquid as they defrost ETA: are you making sure the milk boils to the right temperature and then cools back down before you start it? I use the boil function of the yogurt button, once or twice depending on how cold the milk was to start. I use a meat thermometer to measure the temperature (stir but don’t touch the bottom). And then it needs to cool back down

O17, when you were a FTM when did you start taking the LO out to events? I have a halloween costume for E this year but I'm hesitant to take her to a halloween... thing. She doesnt eat candy, wont remember any shenanigans and is equally likely to be scared by something lol. Oh and cold.

I did small community type events first, like Halloween party at the library or Santa coming with the parks dept - no “real” door to door trick or treating or anything. It was mostly to get me out and about and if LO freaked I could just leave.

So I’m on the west coast for work training this week, it’s weird being on PST... I FaceTimed the family as soon as I got out of training so I could say hi to the girls before they went to bed. I had a nice chat with DD1 and DD2 was so happy to see me but DH told me she was upset after I hung up.
It was DD2’s birthday on Friday and we had a last minute family party on Saturday night. I don’t have any pics and am waiting on my sister and mom to send me some. We also went to my grandmas 100th birthday on Sunday before I had to rush to the airport.
This is the longest I’ve been away from the kids, I miss them and have no idea what to do with all this extra time. I definitely will be enjoying uninterrupted sleep.

Our house guests from the USA arrived today! It’s so nice to see them - I am really good friends with the mom, and DH gets along great with the dad. Their almost 2 year old is super cute too!
But....I found out today that their kid doesn’t go to bed until 11pm. Yes - 11pm. He wakes up at 7am and naps from noon to 2pm most days...but sometimes skips his nap. 😮 He also doesn’t eat at the table ever, and runs all over the place spreading his food everywhere....every.single.meal.and.snack.time 😦
I’m a little scared....our kids are in bed/crib by 7:30pm each night and they are only allowed to snack or eat at the table- no exceptions. I hope the white noise machines can tune out their 2 yo running around until 11pm! 😬 🤞🤞
Also, they have no timetable for when they will leave. Maybe a few weeks. I guess we’ll see how it goes?

I need downtime/time to get stuff done after my kids are in bed, DNW a kid staying up until 11, I am usually in bed before then 😳 We are also major sticklers for stuff like bedtime and routine/basic rules. It’s hard enough for me to release that for like a day or an evening when we have people over never mind a few weeks! Best of luck! I hope the white noise can drown their kid out

Planning on taking my kids to the zoo after DS’s morning nap since it’s the last kinda nice day before it gets cold and possibly snows. We have a pass so if we only stay a little while it’s not like it’s a waste of money or anything! Just hanging out with coffee while the kids play and laundry runs

I hope the white noise can drown their kid out Yeah - when she told me that her kid didn’t go to bed until 11, my jaw dropped. I was like - you must be so exhausted! When do you get any time for yourself? And she gave me this really tired expression and said, “I don’t.” ☹️ I feel really bad for her. I guess her kid is also up every 2-3 hours to nurse (they co-sleep), and I just don’t know how they can function on so little sleep! I’m hoping that the jet lag will be useful and get them to bed earlier. When we have visitors from the USA, they are normally passing out from jet lag by 4 or 5pm. This is their first day, and they lasted until 7:30pm - so I kind of hope they just stay jet lagged (at least as long as they are staying with us). Fingers crossed!!!!

Hey, speaking of snacks. Anyone doing snacks for their yearling? Yes, I'm going to start using yearling when referring to our O17 babies from now on hah.
I'm just not sure when to offer snacks? I think I use nursing like a snack so maybe I dont need snacks yet?

I think I use nursing like a snack so maybe I dont need snacks yet? We aren’t big snackers so it often didn’t/doesn’t occur to me to offer snacks unless they ask. Our schedule is: nurse on wake up, breakfast, lunch, (occasionally nurse), supper, nurse at bedtime. If a meal is going to be late or DS is a hangry grump we may do an applesauce or something but generally we don’t. He’s 75%ile for weight so he’s doing ok 😛 DD recently started preschool where they do a snack that she’s not used to. I basically treat it as half of her lunch because she ends up eating a smaller lunch on preschool days

cythe, daycare normally does a snack in the morning around 9-10 and afternoon around 3. it hasn't really affected her lunch/dinner eating so I'm ok with it. they have a variety of snack foods there so it's not the same thing every day. But i count her morning snack as breakfast since she has a bottle around 7.
