Tried to vote today, but got lightheaded/nauseous and had to leave. Don’t worry, I’m coming back when someone can come with me, so Saturday at the latest. Anyway, you guys, the line was super long and full of college-aged kids, who seemed so excited. H and I are usually by far the youngest people when we go vote and it was amazing to see that shift considerably. There was so much positive energy. It really did give me hope. Let me know if I can do anything to help you vote. I can borrow a wheelchair from work. Lol.

Also, this week is when my husband is able to look and see what orders are open for our next move. So I feel sick about this. And sick about midterms. I'm trying to calm down. I go to bed with a list of non stressful things I can think about in the middle of the night if I wake up and I'm running out of things to put on that list, lol.

There was an interesting discussion on my local radio that it might be better for T and the GOP if Dems have some success in the midterms as it releases some of the built up pressure from the 2016 loss. Then they get complacent again and the GOP and Orange win in 2020. But if the GOP wins in 2018, Dems get even more fired up and have a good 2020. Ugh. I don’t even want to think that because the shit can get so messed up from 18-20. I hate strategery sometimes.

I am optimistic. I might also puke. On Nov. 9, 2016 this all felt so far away but we're here and we're doing it and I'm nervous and I'm scared and I want to be excited. I think this is part of my anxiety. For the last two years, I've lived by "we have the midterms". and if it doesn't work out, then what. We lick our wounds and pick up the pieces and start working on 2020. This election is one battle in a war that's been raging for a long, long time. It's easy to say and, lord, I know anxiety can't be explained away but... then what? Good or bad, blue or red, on Nov. 7, we're still going to have a long way to go.

I know that if it doesn't work out, I'll wake up the 7th ready to keep fucking fighting. I've just so long kept telling myself, "midterms will come" and now that it's here, I'm so anxious. Edit: Even if we win the house and senate, I'll wake up the 7th ready to keep fighting. I hope you know what I mean

One thing I will say is that me and my husband are not allowed to make pizza on Election Night. Bad luck. In 2016 - he went to take it out of the oven and it fell cheese side down on the floor. We should have known right then and there. Lol. Last year I made a frozen one and forgot to take the cardboard out from under it. We usually do "picky" dinners on Election nights because it's easier to graze while we are watching returns. NO PIZZA THIS YEAR GUYS I'M SERIOUS. I bought a bottle of bubbly wine I never opened because Mh kept saying, "Wait until something good happens." Welp. This year I'm opening that damn bottle of wine (Note, not the same bottle) as soon as I get home.

I think I’ll be ok when H gets back and can come with me, so I can literally lean on him if needed, haha. I’m assuming since Beto had just left, the lines were much longer than they will be the rest of the week.

I'm still newish to this state, and having early voting makes it so, so, so much easier to vote. I'm planning to go tomorrow, thinking there might have been lines the first couple of days.

I can't get too worried about early voting or absentee voting numbers. Statistically aren't there far more elderly people who vote absentee? In my head that is true, anyway.
We have early voting in CA but I'd have to go so far out of my way on a workday to do it, when my normal polling place is DS1's elementary school and I can just go when I drop him off on the 6th.

CA 48 is going to be a shit show. We need to get Rohrbacher out. There's some very strange, suspicious stuff going on in orange county and my district, so I'm not sure all voters will be able to vote. What's going on??? And taterSo they redistricted us last year with no notice, and therefore someone decided several districts would not have polling places. So everyone in my district, where I have lived for 10 years and always had a polling place, literally has no physics polling place. We have to vote by mail. With no prior notice (and our ballots arrived over a week later than all the others near us). I surveyed my neighbours and none of them had any idea. Many immigrants and Olds live in my area. Several people, myself included, would have opened our garages as a polling place had we been asked or known this was happening. So other places in the state and county have 3 ways to vote. We have 1. I called the county. We can't even drop off our ballots a d a polling place because there are none in our district. I did not find out how many districts this happened to. It's not okay.

Damn. That’s fucked up. I think there are hotlines you can report that kind of stuff to. I don’t know what good it does but I would feel like I need to tell people. My super blue county makes it so easy to vote.

There’s a lot of reasons younger people don’t vote. For one, the importance of it is often not taught. Things like initiatives, propositions, etc, are very confusing and often not covered in high school civics. Until recently, there has been little to no engagement of the youth vote, save MTV’s Rock the Vote. They’ve been largely ignored by politicians. College campuses need to do a better job of helping out-of-state students vote. Many don’t know how, or feel like the effort is too much. More outreach for this is crucial. And as long as boring old white guys who condemn the “entitled generation” dominate politics, many young people are going to remain apathetic. The young are also typically more mobile/haven't put down roots. I moved/changed addresses over 20 times between the age of 18 and 28 and lived in 4 different states. It's hard to keep your ID/registration information up to date, know all the rules for your current state, and get to the polls for every election when you change addresses every 4-6 months. I love voting and definitely missed some opportunities to do so when I was in my 20s because of this.

MH and I are going to go vote together, probably Thursday afternoon. We go to the library that's close to our house and it has been packed since yesterday morning. I'm very nervous. When I woke up at 3:30am for work the day after two years ago and saw the results I felt sick. I'm pumped to vote for Beto!

Heard on our local news this morning that the African American woman running against the R white male incumbent is up a percentage point in polling for a House seat! He's held office for 3 terms now. Trump won our district by 9.5 points, so I feel like this is pretty significant!

That is crazy! Have you reached out to the register to try to put it in the news? It would be surprising if that area turned blue, so I bet they are really stretching. Also my general Election voter info booklet had a perforated postcard to volunteer my garage as a voting location, I wonder if it’s too late for that (for someone in your area).

I think overall MN's House district split will probably stay the same. But it's weird because 2 previously Dem districts will likely flip to red (both outstate that had long-term Dem incumbents elect not to run) and 2 previously GOP districts will flip to blue (both metro-area suburbs with HUGE douche-canoes).
There is maybe a tiny chance that we'll pick up one seat but not very likely.

Brat (VA07) must be getting nervous. He just tweeted out that spanberger is getting her money from special interest groups and used act blue as an example. Someone pointed out to him that those are small donations from citizens.

My gosh, I'm so jealous of all of you with your early voting, day of registration, and all the other nice things your states do to make voting easy for you. It's taken me 2.5 years for NY to finally get my registration correct so I can actually vote and actually vote where I currently live. And lololol wouldn't you know, we might be moving again now. Go figure.
