I just sent out my 400 postcards. I decided to do my last batch yesterday for Leslie Cockburn since her race was polled closely

What happens if we don't take back the House? Or something? Are people in the country really this stupid? I was hopeful for so long and now I'm starting to get into full anxiety mode.

I’m still feeling positive about the house. The senate I just hope we don’t lose too many seats.

Also, trying to not get too worked up over polls. How accurate are polls anyway? I know they were way off in 2016.

Just remember that not all polls are created equal. Polls for governors races, and even congressional races in small areas are not nearly as accurate as a senate poll or a national candidate poll.
Also, early voting data is essentially useless. It’s interesting but no one can ever figure out if it represents net new voters or just people who would have voted on Election Day that now have the option to vote early.
So, conserve your energy with respect to handwringing over that data.

CA 48 is going to be a shit show. We need to get Rohrbacher out. There's some very strange, suspicious stuff going on in orange county and my district, so I'm not sure all voters will be able to vote. What's going on??? I'm also concerned because I haven't heard anything and this would probably be my district or close to it?

Several friends who live in Indianapolis say there is a plane pulling a banner that says to "Vote anti-abortion" flying around the city this morning.
I am raging. I know it's Indiana and it trends red and Pence signed some really restrictive anti-choice legislation, but fuck.

Younger voters showing up is what needs to happen. The olds dominate the voting here (and most places), especially during midterms.

Thread taking apart media bias against Stacy Abrams. I was just in a deep dive on the flag controversy. Seeing headlines that just say “Abrams burned the flag”. That’s so dangerous and wrong. She did not burn the American flag. She did not burn the current day GA flag (although that one sucks too). She burned the racist as fuck one. Ugh. The battle candidates of color are up against is overwhelming.

I sent in my absentee ballot this morning and have solidly joined team puke. I have very little faith at this point - I know we have the numbers but I see nothing but apathy around me. Except among the truly deplorable people - they are solidly engaged and rallying.

If they are still on this train now, they will most likely be there in 2020.

Tried to vote today, but got lightheaded/nauseous and had to leave. Don’t worry, I’m coming back when someone can come with me, so Saturday at the latest.
Anyway, you guys, the line was super long and full of college-aged kids, who seemed so excited. H and I are usually by far the youngest people when we go vote and it was amazing to see that shift considerably. There was so much positive energy. It really did give me hope.

I did get there about 15 minutes after Beto left, so that may have a lot to do with the crowd.

I am not team puke yet. I am....cautiously optimistic if you will. I have no real high expectations but I don't have low ones either. I am stuck in the middle somewhere.

The fucking olds are making terrible decisions that we all have to live with! What do you guys think? What are the main reasons why younger people don't vote? How can we fix that? There’s a lot of reasons younger people don’t vote. For one, the importance of it is often not taught. Things like initiatives, propositions, etc, are very confusing and often not covered in high school civics. Until recently, there has been little to no engagement of the youth vote, save MTV’s Rock the Vote. They’ve been largely ignored by politicians. College campuses need to do a better job of helping out-of-state students vote. Many don’t know how, or feel like the effort is too much. More outreach for this is crucial. And as long as boring old white guys who condemn the “entitled generation” dominate politics, many young people are going to remain apathetic.

I wish more states had the early voting and mail-in ballots. I think that helps with a lot to get more people voting. It was so easy to do in Colorado and was just sent automatically to us without a request.

The fucking olds are making terrible decisions that we all have to live with! What do you guys think? What are the main reasons why younger people don't vote? How can we fix that? I think part of the problem is that they feel that they don’t know enough to vote. Like kind of a perfectionist problem that I can relate to. They think you have to be super informed on all issues to cast a vote. We need to tell them that the information is available in easily accessible forms and they know more than they think they know. Like you don’t have to be an expert on foreign policy to vote. I totally get it because the ballot can be daunting. We have 12 state level propositions to vote on in CA. It’s a lot of reading and research and I’m still confused on some. But I can also skip some and just vote for the things I feel strongly on. Do young people know that? I just think sometimes we have to reassure them that this is important and worthy of spending some time on and they don’t have to be perfect to vote.

The ironic part is that the only way to increase these options is to vote for more dems to be governor and state legislators. Full circle.

I'm in line to vote and the line is really long. I only waited a few minutes at the same early voting site in 2016 so people are fired up. Unfortunately at work today I definitely found out GOP folks are fired up too.

One thing I will say is that me and my husband are not allowed to make pizza on Election Night. Bad luck. In 2016 - he went to take it out of the oven and it fell cheese side down on the floor. We should have known right then and there. Lol. Last year I made a frozen one and forgot to take the cardboard out from under it. We usually do "picky" dinners on Election nights because it's easier to graze while we are watching returns. NO PIZZA THIS YEAR GUYS I'M SERIOUS.
