I shared this video on Facebook a few weeks ago and you might have seen it, too.

Marsy's Law is on our ballot this year and I don't know how I feel about it. There's so much conflicting information out there. Any of you have familiarity and strong opinions on it?

FFWC: I am not sure I even know the early voting rules in VA. I've not had a conflict in the last 8 years I've been here and my voting location has always been very convenient. Fixing that now.
I am also team puke.
ETA I see that there isn't really early voting in VA, just absentee voting.

My county stated they had 11000 early voters by yesterday, which is ~10190 more than they had in 2014.

Voted for Beto this morning! Unfortunately, the lines in my county are still really long for early voting, and I’m nervous about that turning people away. Not everyone has the schedule flexibility to be able to wait an hour.

PDQ Angie Craig (Democrat running against Jason Lewis) just scheduled a round table with Joe Kennedy and maybe Amy Klobuchar about mental health issues at my library for next week.

I think overall MN's House district split will probably stay the same. But it's weird because 2 previously Dem districts will likely flip to red (both outstate that had long-term Dem incumbents elect not to run) and 2 previously GOP districts will flip to blue (both metro-area suburbs with HUGE douche-canoes). There is maybe a tiny chance that we'll pick up one seat but not very likely. Do you think Angie Craig will oust Lewis? I do. She's running pretty far ahead according to 538 and NYT.

Have we talked about the NAACP lawsuit that was filed in Georgia? I can’t link on mobile but voters are alleging that the machines are changing Abrams votes to Kemp.

It sounds like they are using computers that caused problems in previous elections. The voter picks one thing and it switches on the screen. The voter they interviewed kept picking Abrams and eventually it stuck. I haven’t voted on anything but paper (permanent absentee voter) in a long time and I would absolutely freak out if that happened to me.

It's on the ballot here as well. My initial thought was to vote against it because I worry that it would be another way to systematically discriminate against black people being as they're overrepresented in prisons. I'm researching more now. I think it also depends on how it is worded. Here, it says "Constitutional amendment to strengthen protections for victims of crime; to establish certain absolute basic rights for victims; and to ensure the enforcement of these rights." This would include crimes committed by juveniles. It's also very vague, and our state legislature is constantly up to soooo much fuckery-trying to strip power from other branches while the only way they keep themselves in power is by gerrymandering like crazy. I trust them 0% so I will be voting against it. The cost of implementing it is also said to be high.

I am kind of leaning towards voting against it - as it is usually written it seems too broad and vague to be effective. I like it in theory for violent crimes and domestic abuse, things like that. www.themarshallproject.org/2018/05/22/nicholas-law?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter&utm_source=opening-statement&utm_term=newsletter-20181024-1171

There is some controversy about whether the congressional candidates actually live in the district they are running in. There is one independent candidate that does not, and Bruce Poliquin (R) recently sold his house in the district but is maybe still renting on the property and maintains a PO Box but also owns a multi-million dollar house an hour away in a different district.

This goes back to my term limit argument and the fact that they lose touch with constituents. YES you should live in the district you represent. And actually live there, not just own a piece of empty ground to claim you have interest there.

yeah I'm not really ok with carpetbagging. Especially when it's just another wealthy man who has the means to run in a district where a great candidate of lesser means could run, but can't beat the guy with all the money.

Just another wealthy businessman who can afford to buy property in any district he wants to run in.

I think I talked my child into early voting with me tomorrow. Shes coming into the office with me and we only work 1/2 days so we're going to head over after. Saturday I'm going to text bank.
Reports here are that early voting has exploded so hopefully the trend continues. AND I saw a Paulette sign in my neighbors yard, i'm gonna have to up my game. I only have a bumper sticker. (taped on my window because I dont really like stickers on my car)

I am looking forward to bringing my kids with me to the polls on Election Day. I think we will go out for lunch and ice cream afterward.
The HS marching band runs a bake sale outside our polling place, so I need to make sure to grab cash ahead of time as well. I spent many years working at Election Day bake sales and I like to pay it onto the next generation!

She likes it because they give her a "future voter" sticker.

Indiana's 9th district, I think. Bought a house right before he filed to run but doesn't actually live there. ETA: And got elected. Probably going to be re-elected, too. ETA#2: According to people who voted against him, he bought close to filing. He may have bought earlier than that, but my friends in his district refer to him as a carpetbagger.

I early voted Monday and there was a bigger line than I expected. Again, I made a big point of thanking all the judges and other officials who make early voting possible. Many of these people are volunteers, and I think deserve all the recognition we can give them.
