You guys. He decided last night he wants to be a "baby egg" for Halloween. A red baby egg. 🤔🤔🤔

Good morning and happy Thursday! He has started giving Mh and me kisses when we ask and it's heart-melting. There are times I wish he'd sit still for longer than five seconds lol and I miss a squishy baby but damn if he's not sweet and so much fun in this stage. (Someone remind me I said this the next time he's showing every one of his two years.)

We have officially begun weaning off the binkie. We stopped giving it in the car and she is down to one at bedtime, but I slit the nipple to cut down on suction. This came after I noticed that DD has an enormous overbite most likely exacerbated by binkie use. So far DD is having none of it and it may lead me back to drinking on weekday nights. Dear lord. Oh gosh, I am really dreading this, I'm sorry! My kid was very non-dependent on the pacifier until he got sick a few months ago and we started giving it to him at bedtime. He only uses it at bedtime/naps and in the car but he would love to have it all the time if he could. I kind of wish we had just powered through the illness instead. Do I just let it be until it's time to take it away and go cold turkey and deal with the consequences and drink heavily then? Cold turkey and drink. The cutting holes didn’t do shit for us. He just threw it away and found one that wasn’t cut

It's just an egg I guess? I don't know why he keeps calling it a baby egg. Maybe it's a freshly laid egg. Or something.

When I think baby egg I think robin's or quail's egg. Maybe he's thinking of that.

He used to kiss (like gross open mouthed baby kiss!) for a little while but then he just started offering his forehead to be kissed when we asked for a kiss. Last night he was kissing all of his little bath toys in the tub and graced me with one too. When I asked for another, he offered me his bath toy to kiss instead and laughed hysterically.

We'll last night was mildly successful. She got up once crying for it but was able to go back to sleep after a quick back rub. I hope it's an out of site out of mind thing and she gets over it in a week, because the guilt I feel doing this is awful.

I am getting a little tired of everyone expecting him to walk. He is probably tired of people trying to get him to walk all the time too. H is guilty of it and I am always just telling him to let him be. It amuses me a little when H or other people ask him if he can walk and he answers "no" very matter of factly. DS is just now 13mo and MIL will not. let. up. on him walking. I can't wait until he just tells her "no" on his own. Leave him alone, woman. Ugh see I'm dying for DS2 to walk here. He's 13 months and it's just so messy to be outside 😕

We listen to music which she really likes and will ask for me "to turn it loudy". We only have a 3 minute drive to and from daycare so for everyday it's ok. I keep toys back there and I can keep her distracted when we go on long rides. We've been doing binkie in the car on and off for a few months now so it's not usually a huge deal if she doesn't have that. Big emphasis on usually. Yesterday she asked for it and I told her how all the binkies are going to go to babies and how she isn't a baby. She insisted she was so I said that if she was really a baby, then she can't have Mac and cheese for dinner, can't watch TV, and has to go right to bed because babies can't do those things. That kinda worked. So I'm just throwing everything at the wall at this point and seeing what sticks.

I'm guessing/hoping when he's a bit older there'll be other things to keep him occupied on longer drives. He is very good at following rules and has the pacifier in his hand ready to hand it over to me as soon as we stop the car.

For us long is over an hour since we live near nothing and most activities take 30-40 minutes to get to. She does fine for that amount of time. If it's over that or you need to force a nap then I'm not against giving her the binkie. I just don't want it to be every day anymore.

And we frequently drive to the IL's camp which is 3 hours away. We usually try to time it for either naptime or drive after bedtime (especially the 8 hour drive) and that usually works pretty well but there is still quite a bit of awake time in the car. That's a good idea to start by taking it away during regular short commutes.

Hey when did everybody drop their morning nap? We're still solidly in the two nap camp and I don't remember when DS1 transitioned to just one.

DS dropped his right at 12mo when they moved him to the toddler room. They said they would be flexible with him if he didn’t adapt right away, but he naturally fell in with their rhythm. We lucked out for sure.

Hey when did everybody drop their morning nap? We're still solidly in the two nap camp and I don't remember when DS1 transitioned to just one. We're in the transition period with DS2 (16 months). It's a little bit trickier with preschool and speech appointments every day of the week so there's a lot of unfortunate car napping going on which screws up my afternoons. 😫 DS1 took two naps until about 17-18 months, then dropped the PM nap and held onto the AM nap for ages. We finally got him switched back to the PM nap around age 2.

Hm ok. Thanks guys.
Hopefully now that we weaned and he's sleeping better at night then he'll be on his way to dropping that morning nap. Right not he still NEEDS it though but dammit I miss my gym classes!
Although it does allow me to get a lot of work done in the am right now; I'll just end up switching to working in the afternoons.

If he is in the car close to the time he used to take his morning naps I cannot keep him awake. I can sometimes then get him to take an afternoon nap if we are back in the car then but usually not if we attempt a nap in the crib.

He accidentally ate some tiny morsels of spinach for dinner last night so H and I have been joking that's what finally made him able to walk. The power of spinach.
