Florence is definitely not going to the UK boycebear . I mean follow along. Damn. You know my initial reaction was to say something but #selfcare.
Thank you for taking the time.

Florence is definitely not going to the UK boycebear . I mean follow along. Damn. Lol but they can swing around up north over to Europe. Isn't that what happened with the one that hit Ireland last year or whatever? I think I remember hearing that that could happen this time too but I don't remember if it was with Florence or one of the other ones developing. ETA nevermind LOL. I see this has been covered. It would have to make landfall and then come back out over warm water and then reform and pick back up strength and then turn towards you survive over the colder waters and then get you.
It can happen but damn.

I mean we have been in the eye and stayed many times cause we didn't have anywhere to go and no money to go anywhere anyway. Not for a Cat 4 though.

I have lived around hurricanes all my life. I never gave a shit as to who evacuated and who doesn't before the storm. You already have other shit to do to prep and stuff.
No sense in getting upset or anything about it.

I cannot express enough that even if you are not in the path of the eye but if you are on the east side to NE side you can get a lot of wind damage, tornados, etc. Take necessary precautions. It’s supposed to kind of scoop around us, so the people in our neighborhood have chilled about prepping their patios, etc. I’m nervous.

My great aunt is in a retirement/assisted living facility in North Myrtle Beach. Despite being in the evacuation zone (only a few miles from the beach!) they are not evacuating and instead are absorbing residents from other facilities. My mom, aunts and cousins are all sick over this, as am I but she’s insistent.

We are in Ocean City, MD on vacation with my mom and stepdad and they said we have to leave tomorrow evening because it floods easily.
I can’t imagine being in the area where it’s supposed to hit and not leaving.

Last I heard, the think OC was affected more by the storm this past weekend then what they expect from Florence

You have ocean on one side, bay on the other, and no drainage. It does look like we're going to be spared the worst of anything up here but once florence eventually moves up the coast we'll get drenched. As if it hasn't been rainy enough.

We used to live in the area but I appreciate the offer! We're looking forward to getting back down there. Hope it's all in one piece. Ah! Well then you should give me some recs! 😉 ::buts in:: Our favorite breweries are Pisgah, Burial, Highland, Greenman and Catawba. The only not kid friendly one is Greenman. Barleys is a great pizza place downtown. The Corner Kitchen in Biltmore village is good for brunch. The Lab is fun but a little pricey for bar food. Curate is upscale and very popular. Chestnut is a long the same lines but very good. We have much food.

thechickencoop are you Eastern shore of MD? I was cracking up earlier because when I think chicken coops I think ES. My parents are in that area on a river. They almost flooded with Sandy's storm surge and the ground is already saturated so I'm nervous for them.

Sandy was much worse on the eastern shore than the western IIRC. We had a boat at that time (we kept it not too far outside of the inner harbor) that was too big for us to trailer so we had a marina haul it out for the storm. I'll never forget, because I was pregnant with DS1, standing there watching them haul it and one of their hydraulic lifts broke and dropped our freakin boat. Put a decent hole in it. That was....unpleasant. But it survived the storm fine!

You should be fine. I'm close. OCMD floods all the time but it dissipates quickly with the tides when the rain stops or slows. The ocean breached a lot of the dunes around here this past weekend with some random tropical storm and I don't think it should be any worse than that. If anything, you may have to wait a few hours to travel. If the hurricane turns north rather than their predicted southern turn, it might be a different story. If you travel north to get home, you should be fine but if you are heading south or west, leaving early might not be a bad idea if floodwaters are expected en route. (Western md is in worse shape).

Oh yea, I wouldn't be rushing to leave. I thiiiiink some of the outer bands of the storm are supposed to hit the eastern shore like today and tomorrow but other than that I don't think MD is getting much of anything.

Stay safe today, everyone.

I saw that it dropped to category 2 overnight. Is there a chance it could restrengthen before making landfall?

I saw that it dropped to category 2 overnight. Is there a chance it could restrengthen before making landfall? It honestly wouldn't make much of a difference either way - the wind field on this thing extends really far out, and it's still a big storm, and will stall, which is a worst-case scenario as far as flooding and storm surge.

She’s huge. Hurricane winds stretch 80 miles from the eye while tropical storm winds around 200 miles out.
