I watch the NHC website a lot during this time of year. Hurricanes are beautiful and terrifying in equal measure. Who is getting hit? The path has moved significantly south since earlier this week. Stay safe.

My parents have a house in Myrtle Beach so we are watching closely. From what I saw this morning, it looks like it could hit the NC/SC border and then swing back out and hit middle of SC?

This is the current model from the NHC. It looks like the Carolinas and Georgia are getting the worst. It also is slowing over land. From Thursday until Monday it’s really not moving.

This storm is massive. I lived in North Carolina in 1999 when Hurricane Floyd hit and flooded half the state. There were dozens of fatalities and billions of dollars worth of livestock, equipment and structures lost. I've been glued to the coverage all week because it feels so similar.

I don't know how weather works, but the UK is supposed to be getting this too in some form? I doubt we'll get the brunt of it, I just hope everyone manages to stay safe. There are several storms in the Atlantic right now. Helene is headed for the UK but she’ll fizzle before then. Tropical Depression Ophelia did hit Ireland last year, though.

I'm reading that 30 million could be affected and that it's going to be incredibly strong. I hope everyone stays safe!

We are in NC but inland about 120 miles. Last night we went out to dinner with friends. Foolishly, my husband wanted to drive by a gas station to see the lines and we got stuck in a huge traffic snarl. The intersection was blocked and people trying to get to the gas station had the road backed up about a 1/2 mile. Fights are happening in the stores over water and the grocery shelves are bare.
We own a generator but can't get it to start. We think the carburetor is seized. We want to try to get it fixed but it looks doubtful. Our neighbor has a job in construction and is bringing home a 500lb generator from a job site. He already told us we can snake a power cord over to our house if necessary.
All of our friends with beach houses have already boarded up the windows and will just wait and see what comes of their second homes.
I stocked up at Total Wine on Monday. I have puzzles arriving from Amazon today.

I cannot express this strongly enough, if you are in the path and are told to evacuate, leave.
If you need help with logistics, financials, etc. PM me and I'll do what I can to help.

We were predicted to get a big hit (Virginia beach area) but now that the model has shifted it looks like we will likely just experience heavier rain. Our area floods like crazy so I’m still expecting it to cause issues but definitely not what we were thinking was going to happen earlier this week. Stay safe everyone!

Our BFFs are in the Research Triangle so we are just waiting to hear how we can help/what they need/where to send food or money.
Stay safe everyone and listen to the authorities if they tell you to leave!

I have my eye on the Outer Banks - I go there every year and it feels like home. It looks like the storm is supposed to hit further south, but OBX will still be dealing with a lot of flooding. I have some friends down there who are riding it out. A few years ago Hurricane Irene washed out Highway 12 on Hatteras Island and they were cut off from the mainland for months.
I hope everyone in the path of this storm stays safe, evacuate if you're told to. This storm is a monster.

I'm in the middle of NC and we have done some light preparations - bought water, filled up our cars with gas, etc. DH got the generator out yesterday and he has to fix something on it so fingers crossed we don't need to use it this weekend.
A bunch of colleges and some school districts near me have closed friday so I'm waiting to see if my girls' daycare closes as well.
There is still some uncertainty on what's going to happen inland so I want to be prepared but not stress myself out about it.

My inlaws are wrapping up their vacation on the coast and are supposed to come here on Saturday from the southern part of the South Carolina coast. They are being so fucking dumb an stubborn about evacuating. I just wrote them a strongly worded but also concerned/polite email that basically said they need to get the fuck out because even if the storm doesn't hit them directly, the traffic trying to leave the area will be an utter nightmare. All my years living in New Orleans and evacuating have taught me that sitting on the highway in evac traffic is akin to the 7th circle of hell. This kind of thing always amazes me. I hope they get their heads out of their butts and get out of there.

We got back late last night from North Myrtle. We had to cut our vacation short but it wasn't worth taking any chances. The building we had our condo from was shutting off water and power at noon yesterday. Staying wasn't even an option. Glad we got out before things got crazy. Hoping everyone stays safe.

It's crazy to think about how flooded highway 12 can get.

My parents were on vacation with friends on VA beach. Don't think evacuations were mandatory where they were (yet), but I am so glad they all decided to leave yesterday.

This is so scary. The news reports and the probably forecasts coming from weather stations reminds me of the predictions for Sandy in that it was the flooding and storm surge that will be most catastrophic.
I really hope that everyone is taking the evacuations seriously, for their own safety and the safety of the emergency workers that would have to rescue them.

Yea I think with the track update having it stall down south is saving us from a lot of rain up here in Maryland. I hope you guys all stay safe down there!
One of my sales guys who I work closely with is in Charleston CHARLESTON! and him and his pregnant wife are thinking about staying and just riding it out. I hope since yesterday afternoon they have reconsidered and are hightailing it out of there. 🙄
H works on commercial generators up in MD, DC, VA and he has been SLAMMED this week by businesses that are trying to get last-minute repairs completed. The annoying thing is a lot of this is stuff that was quoted or advised to get fixed months and months and months ago and people always wait until the last minute. But that's the way it is before any big storm.
