I'm supposed to go to Asheville in a few weeks I hope it's still standing. They’ve had a lot of rain this summer and two small floods already. I’m crossing my fingers they don’t get pummeled. We live by the Catawba river and the floods washed out one of our two ways out back in May. I’m a little nervous

We live by the Catawba river and the floods washed out one of our two ways out back in May. I’m a little nervous We were there that week! My H and I were going to go tubing. Lol. I have never seen the French Broad move so fast. Didn’t the shops around biltmore village got flooded? That was crazy. A little. Nothing like what happened in 04. I work right next to the Biltmore. We were a little soggy but nothing crazy. The dredged the river that runs by it to prevent catastrophic flooding but there are two rivers right here so it’s hard to avoid when we get that much rain.

I don't understand people who are in the eye's path who refuse to leave. Like, what? truffleshuffle - why are they refusing? It can take a while to get back on the islands and people worry about what happens to their home in the meantime. Not saying that's a good reason. I also think some people truly think they're tougher than Mother Nature. I just heard a lady say "we're going to say here and protect our stuff." 🤔

We live right outside Charleston and we're evacuating today. Our neighbors are staying though. She said "it's just going to rain". Ok then.

I hope Florence buys Wilmington dinner first If you haven't gone on their FB post of this for the comments, you should.

Florence is definitely not going to the UK boycebear. I mean follow along. Damn. Lol but they can swing around up north over to Europe. Isn't that what happened with the one that hit Ireland last year or whatever? I think I remember hearing that that could happen this time too but I don't remember if it was with Florence or one of the other ones developing. ETA nevermind LOL. I see this has been covered.

We get them when they come through Texas or Louisiana. It's no different than any other storm system that develops by the time the pieces it get to us. And no, that is not at all what happened with Ophelia. Look up the storm track. That one went straight to Ireland. That wasn't pieces, that was the main storm itself.

This is so scary. The news reports and the probably forecasts coming from weather stations reminds me of the predictions for Sandy in that it was the flooding and storm surge that will be most catastrophic. I really hope that everyone is taking the evacuations seriously, for their own safety and the safety of the emergency workers that would have to rescue them. This is what I keep thinking. It has the potential to be like Sandy on the coast and Irene farther inland. Irene knocked out whole towns w/ local flooding after it stalled in upstate NY and Vermont, hundreds of miles away from the coast. Friends in the Carolinas, pease stay safe. If you end up on the roads, remember to turn around, don’t drown if you come across flooding. And if anyone is evacuating and needs a place to stop in the DMV region, drop me a PM. ❤️

I mean no disrespect, but this is incredibly stupid AND incredibly selfish of them. this doesn't just affect them. when they need help, people are going to risk their own lives to help them because "stubborn". this stuff makes me angry. again, not you personally.

chickenonsunday where are you? I’m in Charlotte, and I think we’re mostly looking at awful rain and possibly flooding. RTP area. Just got a freaking email that our puzzles are delayed. DF@#$@#%@$^%#$! Did get a bit of good news that our cabin rental in Asheville for the weekend is being refunded 100%. Current renters want to extend their visit. No issues from us for that!

My in laws all live on myrtle beach and are refusing to leave. I don’t get it. The Grand Strand hospital was evacuated for goodness sake. The mayor is on all the news shows begging people to leave. But I swear the only reason my inlaws left was because they live in a highrise that cut the water off yesterday at noon. I hope your family weathers the storm safely.

So many people on the east coast feel they’ve lived though it all and have near misses to cite (hurricane success,I guess). I don’t get it and I hate it . I live walking distance to the va beach border (like 100 feet) and I’m 25 minutes from the oceanfront. Just because one storm moves , doesn’t mean ignore evacuation orders. I hate this part with hurricanes. People being stubborn and not thinking what could happen. If they mandatory evacuate, please just go. Just do it.

My parents were in Charleston for vacation and were supposed to leave today, but they left yesterday morning, but had to drive bc all flights were full. Thank God I have a risk averse dad who wants no part in “riding it out.”

One of my closest friends is in the Raleigh/ Durham area so I’m hoping for the best. According to my BIL they are just expecting a ton of rain and wind with possible floods.

I cannot express enough that even if you are not in the path of the eye but if you are on the east side to NE side you can get a lot of wind damage, tornados, etc.
Take necessary precautions.
