flamingo The weekend closest to 9/11, there is a stair climb in the tallest building in KC, to commemorate the fallen firefighters. Many local fire fighters participate, in their full gear. I cry every time I watch the news coverage of it. And there is a small memorial in Overland Park that does a ceremony on 9/11. We found the memorial one day last fall and need to go back. There is a piece of one of the World Trade Centers on hand, I want to go back and spend more time.

sands42, oof. At least he looks cute? You're doing an awesome job. It sucks to not have the time you would like for the kids. And don't beat yourself up over him having a meltdown. The important thing is you realize it and have addressed it. The girls still get the best of me occasionally with a fit they are way too old to be having. It happens. But it's tough.

mwhip, I did. I inquired about a tuition reimbursable. You would think if nothing else they would care about $$$. We pay her school tuition in full at the beginning of the year so they'd be missing out on that plus the daycare $.

I'm sorry inthekitty, finding any sort of care is really hard and it's rough when they dont come around right away. I may be the outlier here, but I'd give it more time, I know you know this but changes take time.

Oh, and I know you were all on pins and needles wondering, but I got Maddie's school lunch menu and last week when she had a burger it was either a chicken burger or a veggie burger. She's still beef-free. Yay!

Dh and I met for lunch. Cleaning woman postponed until tomorrow so I get two more hours of lounging at home before picking C up. I so needed this and am energized to focus on the retreat this week.

No Florida for us, DH will have to go in Thursday or Friday. Ugh. I am so ready to be done with the Navy and have some semblance of control over our lives again.

mwhip Slightly related, have you ever been to the WWI Museum and memorial in downtown KC? We went while we lived there and were so impressed--really well done.

She caved in 30 seconds.  This is success!  I know I am more of a hardass than most, but to me that means she doesn't need you going back in, and you are making it worse by doing so.  With B, if he so much as sees me, he's up for ever.  But if I leave him alone, he will fall right asleep.  He's always been that way.  

At DC recently he wasn't napping and I told the teacher to isolate him as far as possible from the rest of the kids.  MH thought it was mean.  But the very first day she did it, he slept for 2 hours.  So (insert Shruggy guy)

flamingo I’m sorry you guys have to stay. I know you wanted to spend time with your family and snuggle on that nephew of yours. So hard when the job limits your plans. We, too, are disappointed far too often on that front.

I was going to suggest this too.  I always feel the adjustments are hard.  But if it doesn't get better, I'd definitely try to find another option.  Is it literally just where they are or where your H works?  Is there no 3rd option?

No, H has always said he's wanted to go and we've never done it.  We really need to because everyone I know who has gone, has talked about what a great place it is.

Well, I should take that back, the grounds is a large open area.  One of the local rock stations does a concert every summer that is all day, 50k people, and it's one of the places that can accommodate a crowd like that.  So I've been down for that, but they keep you away from the actual memorial.

The memorial itself is beautiful, especially when lit.

ETA sorry you aren't getting out of town due to your H's job.  That sucks.

M2’s pedi called because she got the report from the ER and wasn’t satisfied with it, so she wanted to see us today to check his white count again to make sure it was coming down. We did a chest X-ray due to his nasty cough and it was clear. Just waiting for the results of the CBC.

Hey. Took H to school this morning and then S and I took a long walk and played at the neighborhood park. Picked up H from school, had lunch, nap and snack and now the girls are coloring. I’m going to take them outside to play in a little bit.

flamingo sorry your H has to work. Would you take the kids and go by yourself or is that not really an option?

inthekitty sorry for the school/daycare drama. I hope things can get straightened out soon. I’m sure it’s a hard transition for your girls having never gone to daycare before.

Yep, I get you. Fall is just not the season to plan stuff for us, I guess! 

eta: I'm glad the X-ray was clear, hoping the blood work will come back alright, as well. Poor little guy.

Thanks, all. This has been a rough couple weeks with DH's job, lol. FWPs, but darn.

cagoldi He has about 5 1/2 years until retirement (when he hits pension eligibility). From there he'll go to commercial aviation, yes. I think ideally he'd like to fly for the airlines but there are other options, too.

trtlcrzy I could go alone (Lord knows i've done it before), but tbh I'm just tired of my family being separated. We were up in Maine, then as soon as we got home DH had to go to the boat, then he took C down to my ILs last week. Whatever we do, I want to do it together.
