What are you currently reading? I literally just finished Rebel of the Sands. It stumped me so I was impressed with it. I want to get the second book.
Favourite book you've read lately? Lately for me would be in the last year. I've read the mortal instruments series, and I love that series. I feel like I can't keep up with that author though. She has so much story to this world.
What's a book you dislike? I really didn't like "The Cursed Child". It made me really mad actually. It was technically a script though.

Currently reading: Dark Rooms by Lili Anolik
Favorites I've read lately: I just finished The Story of the Lost Child - really enjoyed that series, though they do read like one long book. I probably wouldn't have continued after book 1 but it ends in a bit of a cliffhanger and I'm glad I kept going.
Also really enjoyed Commonwealth by Ann Patchet
Books I dislike: I do not like Dave Eggers' books. The Circle was okay. I feel like it's gotten a lot of hype with the movie coming out. The only book of his I enjoyed was What Is The What - that was excellent. The rest, including Heartbreaking Work... are meh for me.
I also did not really like Hillbilly Elegy. The first half was interesting but I stopped reading when he started to get philosophical.

I finished a useful woman and am moving on to the second in the series. Bummed I'll have to wait 11 months for the 3rd in the series.

45thparallel, let me know how it is, I've been eyeing it up at the library lately. Finished The Handmaid's Tale and liked it. I'm excited to start the show and I really liked the prologue.

My hold on The Rosie Project ebook came through from the library so I'm sneak reading that while at work (it's a slow time of year).
I'm not sure what I think of it yet. I'm basically picturing Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory.

I'm basically picturing Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory. That's exactly how I pictured the main character-but I love Sheldon, so it was great. I really liked that book!

I try to get into YA but sometimes it just feels so simplistic. I don't know. I loved the Hunger Games but did not like Divergent at all. It's all about the characters and Katniss captured my interest way more than whoever the main character in Divergent was. I think I'm going to give the Throne of Glass series a try after all this raving I'm seeing. That's because Divergent was the woooorst.

I'm basically picturing Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory. I was just listening to an episode of What Should I Read Next where they were talking about this book. I may have to put that on my library hold list as well!

I've found that some of the "issue books" really sacrifice character development. There are also plenty of vapid romances, though that is the same for adult books. I also disliked the Divergent series. I bought the whole trilogy, but I never made it to the third (and I hate read the second). I didn't like the characters, and I thought the plot was just stupid. I did like the Hunger Games books. If you want a good laugh, read the 1 star Amazon reviews foe Allegiant. Made me glad I never picked it up!

pippa bearfootz I read The Rosie Project a while ago and enjoyed it. It's an interesting premise and fun enough to read -- perfect summer book. If you guys end up liking it and want more, there is a sequel already out. I always love when I read a book and don't have to wait for the story to continue.

I just thought of a book that was really hyped up that I greatly disliked-The Magicians by Lev Grossman. I hated the main character and hate read most of the book. YES! Thank you. I just want to add my hatred of the Magicians. Everyone in that book annoyed me.

45thparallel, let me know how it is, I've been eyeing it up at the library lately. Finished The Handmaid's Tale and liked it. I'm excited to start the show and I really liked the prologue. Were you raging at the end like rablissful and I were?? I'm still not over that. 😑

One YA series I enjoyed is the Daughter of Smoke and Bone. No love triangle, takes place in Prague, interesting story.

The open ending was slightly frustrating, but I also felt like it was appropriate. Would you care to share what you were raging about?

I'm considering adding "The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up" to my summer reading list, but I'm kind of wondering if that would be a bad idea for me to read right now. I'm currently on bedrest, so I feel like maybe this book will drive me crazy because I won't be able to purge and organize...and that I'll start seeing more clutter everywhere while stuck in bed. Not sure if that makes sense.
Anyone read this? Thoughts on whether I should put if off until after bedrest? I just have some extra time on my hands, and I've really wanted to read the book...I'm torn.

I did not read the book, but I've followed the Kon Mari thread on the other board and tried to adapt some of the priciples. I try to ignore house work while reading, so I definitely wouldn't read about it.
