Today I learned lego sets have any significant amount of value. You must have been absent the day I learned some are to be built a certain way. I just thought you free build and the books were suggestions.

Wait, you bought them just because? That’s awesome! I mean that, sincerely. I have an extremely extensive Lego collection. Like it's our family hobby, so to speak. I made a spreadsheet recently to inventory total pieces and cost. With the HP legos I just purchased, I've exceeded 100,000 pieces on display. There are so so many confessions buried in there. Now you all know. .......could you share this spreadsheet as a template?

I confess that I also love Meghan Trainor, but I find her to be problematic. I censor C’s music on portrayal of women, so I don’t play most of her songs in front of her, but then I let her listen to things with all sorts of profanity.

DS loves his LEGO sets but will only follow the books. He keeps his sets perfectly organized, it’s great.
There are many tears whenever the neighbor kids come play LEGO’s and mix them all up.

Last week I had a kind of naughty dream about Burt Reynolds. Not 82 year old Burt, young Burt - which, I admit is also confession worthy. I'm thinking it was because someone had posted that pic on FB recently but who knows, maybe I have celeb death ESP.

So do ya'll keep the boxes the pieces come in so that you know which pieces are for what sets? Do they stay built and you display them? DO ALL OF THE PIECES GO IN ONE BIG BIN?

But now all of B's Legos are mixed in a giant bin because our nieces are the worst. That spreadsheet is sounding like a better idea every minute.

Early is a no. Current Ke$ha is ALL👏THE👏TIME. I know someone who wrote a pretty lengthy paper on the theological implications of the song “Praying.” YES. We’re also all about Cardi B.

We use gallon ziplocs for sets not on display, but most often the sets are assembled and stay assembled. eta: the ziplocs are labeled with the name, set number, and release year. They also include the instruction booklet.

Obviously in my home we don't build the picture so there is no need to display. When it is time to put the shit away, away it goes.

omg I cann't believe I'm divulging this but... further confession is part of the reason there is spreadsheet is that the monetary value of the lego collection is nearing the place where we might need a specific rider on our insurance to cover it. You know shit is dire when I'm confessing the depths of my nerd habit rather than talk about tampons falling out of vaginas. Oh man I would love to be a fly on the wall in the insurance office when you call about that. "You'd like a rider... for your Legos? For HOW MUCH??" I mean, I'm sure people call for all sorts of collections but this is just making me giggle. I love it for you. And tbh some of those HP sets do look kind of cool. Where’s my tag??? Most companies offer a category for memorabilia. If there’s a way to appraise a things value, you can usually schedule it! I don’t think I have actually seen legos specifically yet. Keep in mind that most of your personal property will be covered just fine, just usually subject to your deductible. What you want to make sure you have is replacement cost (vs actual cash value) and if there’s any special limit on your policy that would limit either the per item payout or the overall payout, that it’s sufficient for the category. If it’s not, you should schedule it. Example, most basic policies will give you $1500 for theft of jewelry. If you have jewelry worth more than that, you need more coverage.

All my life I thought Legos were to think out of the box and build what your imagination creates etc.
I have come here and all this was dash to hell.

I always had the big box of rando LEGO as a kid. I don’t think I ever realized they come in coordinated sets until I got one for DS.
I always thought the people who built perfect replica things were just really committed to digging through the rando box for the right colors and shit.

My son builds the lego sets, plays with them as-is for a short while (hours, maybe days) and then starts taking them apart and building his own creations. We have a lot of legos but I have no interest, nor do I have time, to keep them organized in any sort of way.

Every time someone does, Don't @ me, I think of them saying IRL "Don't AT me" and doing a bit of a no head shake and finger wag. It's not "don't AT me"?........

There are some sets that give you options of different things to build. And others that are just open slates. They are what I liked as a kid. 🤷🏻♀️ DS likes to build (usually Star Wars stuff) and then use his creation for imaginary play. We have regular legos for creative building play, but he’s not as into it.

swansonI yell “I’m vacuuming so you’d better pick up all Legos off the floor before I go in your room because I don’t care if I suck some up!” 75% of the time the kids pick it up. H does the other times because he can’t bear to lose a lego lol

So do ya'll keep the boxes the pieces come in so that you know which pieces are for what sets? Do they stay built and you display them? DO ALL OF THE PIECES GO IN ONE BIG BIN? My MIL gave us a huge bin of random legos. We figure there are about 15 sets from my husband's childhood and about 7 sets from his nephew. We spent snowmaggen '18 sorting that bin into colors. I then tried to start building some sort of lego car and realized I do not have the patience or ability for legos. I'm not giving up though. I'll try again if we get a storm this winter.

Today I learned lego sets have any significant amount of value. Lego discontinues sets all the time, so there are a lot of people that buy them when they are out and then re-sell them at an insane mark-up once Lego discontinues the set. There are two sets for this collection of buildings we have that were discontinued before we ever started collecting Legos. You can get them on ebay but for $$$$$$$$$$$. It's a bridge too far for me and DH, so we just don't have them, but we have contemplated buying double of some things and leaving one box unopened and re-selling. I just don't understand how to sell things online so that's a significant detriment. My husband does this on ebay. I bought a clearance Harry Potter train set from Target about 6 years ago and it is now worth $500. We haven't had the heart to sell it yet, but I'm thinking about it, especially now we have the lego christmas train. He mostly buys Star Wars legos to resell (he'll get two sets- one to build, one to keep in the box).

like this for example - Steve can't even get in the house so you take the side and the top and build him something bigger that you can move around in. Also DS decides the pen for the animals is too tight and he wants them free range. Sure go ahead. I mean if we build it exact and then do what? Take pictures next to it? Admire it?
