clementine +1 if they can get there themselves it’s fine. i know it sucks though when they roll and can’t realize that they can just sleep that way. from what i recall with dd1, the first few nights were rough, but once she figured it out she slept great. this will pass! eta: will he calm down if you rub his back instead of flipping him over? This always cracks me up. Talking about “flipping him over”, like they’re turtles or pancakes 😂

clementine This might be flamable but with DS1 we had him sleep on his stomach/side when we started sleep training around 5 months. It was easier to Pat his back that way. He will eventually figure out if he likes sleeping on his tummy or back. I say flip him only if he won't sleep on his tummy.

DS1 (K) has never had a problem with the dark until my mom said something about the dark being scary. We have been trying to convince him of this since Halloween. For the most part it seems to have worked. While we finally caved and bought blackout blinds for his room and L's room (when he moves in there in a few months). Both of them are waking at 5 am. We hung them today and started saying that the dark was scary again. I don't know if he actually thinks that or if it is his way of getting more attention. I guess we will see how tonoght goes.
I am SO jealous of all of you with babies sleeping through the night. With K I thought it was because he was so little due to reflux but L has no excuses. I can't wait to sleep train!

I’m with you stardust84. With G, I was spoiled and he was sttn at 2.5 months. A still wakes up 2-3 times a night. I don’t know if it has to do with formula vs breastfeeding (G was formula, A is breast) but I would like to not zombiewalk across the hall all the time.

It actually does feel like I’m flipping over a turtle! As much as he cries and seems to want off his belly, he fights it when I try to flip him. It’s like he doesn’t want to be on his belly but he can’t help but try to roll over just because he can.
It was a rough night. He finally fell asleep on his back with the pacifier, but he must have rolled in his sleep because I woke up at one point and he was sleeping on his belly. But every other time, he’d wake up, roll to his belly, then cry until I picked him up. Also since he wasn’t in the Merlin suit he was flapping his arms all around and pulling out the pacifier... and then crying because he couldn’t put it back in.

clementine I am dealing with the same stuff with my L. He just started to roll from back to belly consistently the last couple days. He gets worked up when he is on his belly because he can’t roll back. I let him fuss some but once it gets to blood curdling cries I flip him over. There were two wake ups last night. I am trying to start some sleep training but once he rolls to his belly the crying sounds painful so I may just wait until he is rolling both ways to go all in on sleep training. I have no advice. I wish he liked being on his belly we are working on getting him more used to it during the day.

clementine, is there a reason your not using the merlin suit anymore? I never used it so I wasn't sure if there was a limit or whatever. I feel like I should probably stop swaddling N, but I'm just not ready. Most of the times she works out her arms anyway, but she didn't seem to fall asleep well with them out.

cornpop he rolled over to his belly in the suit yesterday morning, and once that happens it’s not recommended to continue using it. woodenshoes yeah I don’t think we’re quite ready for sleep training either. Especially not now when he’s sick. Hopefully your little guy starts handling being on his belly better soon!

Hello ladies. This is coming to you from the road. It’s an hour and a half in and I’m gonna need another coffee.
When we get back from this vacation we are going to be working on sleeping in the crib, getting rid of the soother which is really hurting sleep and getting B to take a bottle because my surgery is scheduled for Sept. poor kid. I hope he enjoys this vacation

clementine woodenshoes I think that will be us tonight. I've been swaddling one arm out to start transitioning him and twice already today when he woke up he rolled onto his belly but was kinda stuck because his other arm was still in. His first roll was belly to back and he did it several times last weekend but seems to have forgotten.

J slept in his crib for the first time last night and he did pretty well. He was already asleep when DH put him in the crib, and he stayed asleep and slept all night. Now I think I'm going to go make myself cry. I'm taking all of the clothes that he outgrew and storing them.

alwayscheese that’s exactly what happened with L. He did belly to back first, then didn’t do it again for a while. He can do both now, but always seems to get stuck on his belly and forgets he can roll back to his back. Good luck tonight!

The baby has shown no interest in rolling and I am very happy about that. D1 was never swaddled so this is all new territory for us and I'm terrified of the no swaddle transition.
Also add us to the first baby was a great sleeper but the second not so much.

Our photog posted a blog post that used all pictures from our maternity pictures with N. Omg I have all the feels. And especially since all of the pictures are Em just being cute with my big belly in the background and tomorrow she's going to be 3!! Aahh why does time go so quickly? Also, a newborn picture of N's just came up on my desktop background and she has SUCH A MOP of dark brown hair. Where the heck did it go? I don't even realize she lost it until I look at comparison pictures. I liked the dark hair

DH asked if I was going to donate. I told him I am not ready to do that. Maybe in a couple years. I also have not thrown out the possibility of adopting or doing foster care in the future since we can’t have any more biological children.

First baby was an awful sleeper. He also tended to do things like rolling like once then never again lol. This one loves it when I roll him and sort of wriggles to move himself around the floor but no rolling yet. Transitioning DS1 out of the swaddle was tough so that’s one reason I opted for zippadee zip suit this time. It’s also winter here so he’s warmer with everything covered. I just bought a local version that has nicer fabric and fold over hands and also this for summer.

L had his 4 month check up and vaccinations. Our doctor said that rolling is not cobsidered a milestone and not to worry if he isn't. I am kind of relieved he isn't at this point because it is so hard to get him to sleep unswaddled. He always forces one hand out which doesn't seem to wake him but he refuses to settle with it out. I don't know what I will do when he starts rolling.
When does everyone plan on sleep traing, if you plan to? I know L isn't ready yet but does 5 months seem reasonable? I think that is when we did with K.

Well both arms out of the halo swaddle sack is ok so far. Two naps plus bedtime, we've been putting him down drowsy and the only difference is now if he's not drowsy enough he rolls over besides the usual crying. A while after DH put him down for night and we thought he was asleep we looked in the monitor and he had rolled onto his stomach. He woke up now far a late night feed and flipped out screaming cause he woke up on his belly. Hopefully he does ok the rest of the night.

I've had a rough week. I've had a handful of strikes at work where I've said or done the wrong thing and earned some disapproval from my boss. Plus I've been working late and running around like a maniac with all the drop offs and pick ups. I'm feeling pretty deflated. Some lady yelled at me in traffic this morning and I cried.

stardust84 idk, we've just been starting stuff like that when he seemed we needed to. Technically I guess we've started because we let him fuss to go to sleep. snowmoon hugs I hope she does better today. Hugs to you too calendula.

Hugs calendula. Hope your week gets better! It’s halfway over at least! I’m at the dentist. First appointment of many for getting crowns on my two front teeth. I’m so terrified about how they’re going to look. I mean they don’t look great now, and I know they’ll look better after. It’s just so permanent and scary to not know exactly how they’re going to look. On the bright side, L slept better last night! ::knocks on wood 1000 times:: He only rolled and needed to be rolled back once, and he spent most of the night on his side. He must have taken it easy on me for projectile vomiting on me last night. Twice. The second time being after I got us both cleaned up and changed. Of course.

The baby did better last night than I was expecting after her shots. She gave me a two hour stretch in the RNP completely unswaddled so I'm hopeful the swaddle transition won't be so bad.
